  1. I'm coming up on 6000 miles and never thought about the points deteriorating that fast. Something I will check out at the next oil change. Running without a ballast resistor will shorten the life of a set of points real quick also. Bonzi Lon

Here is some of the information I have gleened from limited searches about intakes: the following is a rule of thumb, E-46 came on 69-71 E-88 were on 72 N-33 were on 73 with flat tops N-36 were on 74 with flat tops It is "said" that the N-36 flows better because of slight volume increase over the others, but I haven't found any figures to compare how many cc difference there is between intakes. I will find out for sure this fall when I take off my N-36's for polishing. I have all but the N-33's for comparison. Anyone have some real numbers? Bonzi Lon
  3. What about taking off the fuel pump cam for a short amount time for the test? Route hoses around the mechanical pump. Bonzi Lon
  4. Yes, it is a catchy tune. I did take liberty with one word. It should be 'we count only blue cars'. Bonzi Lon
  5. Thats the background music in a Lincoln Continental commercial on TV. Liked it when it came out but never knew who did it. Bonzi Lon

Rather a special occation for me, exactally 4 years and 500 posts, and 3 more Datsuns. Bonzi Lon
  7. How about this one? The dealership replaced my flat tops with new round tops in 1980. After learning what these carbs are, I noticed mine has a 4 screw for the front and a 3 screw for the back. They work fine, just odd. Bonzi Lon

All of my wrenching experience came from a 1 year High School automotive class. We (6) took a tired old 283 Chevy and put a complet overhaul on it. It sure helped to understand how all those rotating parts are kept from hitting each other. At 14, in April of 1970, a new orange Datsun 240Z smoked its tires across the gas station lot I was working at. I was impressed! That was the first import car I'd ever seen do that. Seven years later I bought Bonzi. Bonzi Lon
  9. IIRC the seat belt bolts are SAE threads, take them with you. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Going back from 77-80, IIRC I think mine swiveled some but the bracket was not floppy loose. When I reassembled them I tightened them down not remembering that until you jogged my memory. I'll also ask, should they swivel? I don't remember removing any spacers, just the loose (somewhat) bolt with the curved paper washer, to protect the plastic I assume. Bonzi Lon
  10. On a parts car I used a jack on the pinch welds, the jack went up 2 inches, the car didn't move. Bonzi Lon
  11. On year in Branson was touted as the "Meeting of Z Minds", the next was "oZark Mountain Maddness". Bonzi Lon

You can get a new sending unit from Courtesy Nissan for about $40, get a new O-ring too. That fuel backing up isn't right. That is a straight shot of at least 2 1/2 inch diameter to the tank. Back in the day I would tell the V-8 crowd the large fuel inlet was racing inspired. IIRC these cars were field finds? Could someone have stuffed a rag in there when it was parked? The tanks are easy to drop, 2 J-bolts and plenty of hose clamps. Bonzi Lon
  13. Well now, theres your problem. (sorry, had to) oldhemi: Unsure on my 73 electric pump system, as it was all changed over in 1980 by the dealership that rebuilt the engine. Bonzi Lon

No, it was the labor taking it apart and the rent time for the rust patina. Bonzi Lon
  16. I will always run the points system on this car. It is the only system I know, its simple and it works. I thought about the change over during the refurbishment but it wasn't plug & play so it was out. Anything to do with wiring is out of my comfort zone. Bonzi Lon
  17. If you have the flat top carbs I would suggest getting the electric one replaced. If running round tops, the mechanical works fine. A couple of reasons to taking the mechanical off is it smooths out the under hood look with the block off plate. Some claim added horse power but doubt very little would be gained by removal. Flat tops were known to vapor lock so the electric pump was used to flow cooler fuel. My 73 has evidence of an electric at one time, it now has round tops, N-36 intakes, mechanical pump and no problems. Bonzi Lon

As above and also, my 73 has snaps imbedded in the front of the carpet that snaps in place on the firewall. The corosponding snaps are mounted in the black cardboard. Bonzi Lon
  20. I had 3. My first car was a blue (imagine that) 64 Bug, totaled twice, once in front, then in back. Had 2, 43 MBJeeps to make one, partnered with big brother and lost big time. I supplied the money, he got all the fun. Then the Z. I know it changed my world. Bonzi Lon
  21. IIRC, on my 73, they were about 3/4 to inch long sheet metal type screws. Flat blade top with a sharp point on the end. They fasten into the steel body and can't been seen with the console on. So about anything you can find that will hold tight to make a good seal would work. Self tapping comes to mind. Bonzi Lon

No adjustment on quartz movements, or lubrication points. Electro-mechanical, yes, but you better know what you are doing, or it will be correct only twice a day. Bonzi Lon
  23. Yep, thats a Caddy, 60 or 61? (tail lights), with a severe haircut. I really enjoy the Bosozoku videos. Bonzi Lon

Electric Blue. You are after my heart. Bonzi Lon
  25. I went out and measured the amount of SS trim that is exposed on both the windshield and hatch of both the 69 and 73. The majority is right at 10mm wide for OEM, nothing under. There was some small varience over the runs of length and in the corners, but not much. It appears if the channel is too wide it will expose the flat portion of the trim. Like where it has shrank in the corners of the 69. Hope this is of some help Bonzi Lon
