  1. Get a new set of NGK spark plugs, adjust valves to FSM, check points, ignition, timing, tune carbs. See where that gets you. Bonzi Lon
  2. I imagine every year is different in the rules, regulations & commissions. The very first year I watched it, there was no commission on any thing over 1 million dollars, there was also a sliding scale of percentage of the sold price. They also had reserves that year. There may also be some exceptions made at the time of signing the contract. What they quote on the air may be the average commission. They might give a huge discount just to have a special vehicle. If each contract is made & signed behind closed doors, we will really never know for sure. That is one hell of a gate fee for a car show, but what a show. Bonzi Lon
  3. Try this place, www.BlackDragonAuto.com Clutch Hose, 64-608, 240-280, 70-78, $12.95 + shipping. Ask for their free catalog, many more parts that you can't live without. Bonzi Lon
  4. It is my understanding the early balance tubes had the brake port on the end, like 240dkw's, then later put the port on the top near the end and plugged the end hole with a welch plug. Bonzi Lon
  5. The way I heard it on the TV was the seller paid 8% and the buyer paid 10%. Bonzi Lon
  6. Sounds like the linkage over-camed when you floored it. Stay away from that intersection? Bonzi Lon
  7. The ice bike would get better grip if the saw blade was turned around. Bonzi Lon
  8. I'm still leaning to air getting in from the throttle shafts. I know the bearings & shafts are new, however some out of tolerance parts make it past QC. To me there is a spot at half way where air enters. Like it is oval in one spot, sealed at idle and wot, but lets air in at that spot. The grease trick should seal them enough to get a pull or two. Thick enough to hold a seal and high temp so it doesn't melt off. A minor mess. Bonzi Lon

Welcome. That smile looks familiar. What would the VIN be & build date? Bonzi Lon
  10. Zedyone, did you try the trick I mentioned in post 196? It should seal any air leaks around the throttle shafts. Then you can try a different pair of carbs. Bonzi Lon

In 1980 my brother found an unusual car & bought it for $800. It is a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce. Another sexy Pininfarina body. It is still in his garage, in pieces, waiting for me to acquire, someday, maybe. Bonzi Lon
  13. Jared, I remember your car from Z-Con10. How could one forget that machine? Congrats on the sale. I sold HLS30-00110, blue/blue in Aug. It got shipped to Dubai also, to go with his 12 other 240's. Again, great build, that one will be hard to top in my opinion. Bonzi Lon

The first go round the gaskets were installed dry, there was plenty of compression, everything looked good. After it was together was when everyone said it should have some type of 'sealant', to prevent fumes. I had fumes. I looked at the old gaskets and there was residue of glue on them. They got glued on this time. (the fumes were from leaks in the entire exhaust system, since replaced). Bonzi Lon

Time the cold start up with a real watch. I think the 'couple of minute' is a slight exaggeration. My 73 with new carbs takes a while to fire after sitting 2 weeks or so, haven't really timed it because I know it is a carbed engine. It just seems to take a lot longer because I'm so used to the fuel injected Saturn, split second ignition. Bonzi Lon

I used the yellow 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. Some call it elephant snot. Get a good seal completely around the gasket, this is where exhaust fumes will creep in from bad or no seal. Bonzi Lon
  18. My front end wobble was caused by a loose self locking nut on the top of the shock rod. It ruined the 'D' shape in the insulator & the shock rod was 1/2 eaten through. It was found by jacking the car up & down on that side & watching the whole assembly move in & out. The black cap covered the nut that was held on by about 4 turns. Bonzi Lon
  19. Your list looks right to me. The metal bladed cooling fan was on the very early cars & painted off-white /antique white. They were replaced with the white plastic fan when the metal fans were reportedly flying apart. Your 73 should have the plastic fan. Bonzi Lon
  20. I remember reading somewhere it was either in 77 or 78, still needs to be confirmed. When my engine was rebuilt in 1980, they told me the new bigger cam would be 'internally oiled & do away with the spray bar'. At the time, it was over my head, so I just nodded. Bonzi Lon
  21. A quick but messy trick. Get some very thick high temp grease and run a good size bead around each of the throttle shafts where air COULD enter. The grease should close off any air or suck it in. Bonzi Lon

The crank snout bolt is 27mm or 1 1/16 inch. Bonzi Lon
  23. Welcome to the club. You are making great progress. I agree on the Corvette comment, I had a 75. It ran like a scaled cat, but the rest was a piece of junk. Cost me a small fortune. I told everybody my Z was 10 times better than that 'squeaky Vette'. I have a thing for 73's. What would be the VIN & build date be? Bonzi Lon

As a confirmed bachelor for over 38 years, you guys need help. Blue is the exception, I'm trying some of them. Hotplate, microwave & a George Forman is all I need, and all the years of experimenting. One of my 'no heat' favorites is a peanut butter & mayonnaise sandwich. Bonzi Lon
