Posted August 29, 200321 yr comment_48013 I just installed my new steering rack into my 70Z. When I went to thread on the tie-rods, I noticed that neither side would thread all the way to the end. The left side has about a quarter inch and the right side is showing about an inch of thread. Has anyone else experienced this. Could it be that I have the wrong tie-rods (purchased them on Ebay) for this rack. Please help. August 30, 200321 yr comment_48078 about the outer tie rods? if you are, then its ok if threads show, mine have some showing on either side when installed, when you get a front end alignment, they'll be adjusted. August 30, 200321 yr Author comment_48079 Yes, I was talking about the outer tie-rods. Should they be tightend as far down as I can get on either side? It seem as though they are uneven. I guess that will be straitened in the allignment.ThanksMark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7665-tie-rod/#findComment-48079 Share on other sites
August 30, 200321 yr comment_48093 No they shouldn't be tightened as far as they will go, they are the adjustment for toe in. The best way to adjust them is to center the stearing wheel then adjust them so that the rotors are parallel and in line with the rear wheels.
