1972 240z Astra Hammond louver bottom brackets with pins.

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! I'm restoring a 1972 Datsun 240Z and I have what appears to be an original aftermarket rear window louver that came on the car. The louver itself is in good shape — it's a plastic/ABS construction with horizontal slats and a curved profile that follows the hatch contour. It already has small hinges on the upper sides, and a small flat mounting tab at the bottom center.

The problem is I'm missing the mounting hardware and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need.

My grandpa, who remembers the original setup, says the bottom mounting used some kind of bracket that permanently bolted or riveted to the hatch. The key detail is that the pin was permanently attached/welded to the bracket itself — meaning the pin could slide in and out to release the louver for cleaning the rear glass, but could never be fully removed or lost. He also mentioned the top hinges may have slid under the weatherstrip rather than requiring any drilling.

Can anyone help me identify:

1. What brand this louver likely is?

2. What the original mounting hardware looked like?

3. Where I can still buy the correct hardware today?

I've seen the Astra Hammond AST10532-HARDWAREKIT mentioned — is that the right kit for this style of louver and does it include the captive pin bracket my grandpa is describing?

Thanks so much for any help!

That's the louver I have. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow maybe. Mine are aluminum.
