Air conditioning in 260

Today I was talking to one of my neighbors and they said they bought their 260 new and that it had air conditioning and that was really rare. Mine has it too. Is it really rare for an early US spec 260 to have air conditioning? Was it a factory or dealer installation? Thanks.
