I have, I'm in two minds because ultimately I believe anything can be fixed and I'm in a profession that involves alot of welding so that is to say I could save some dollars doing _some_ body work myself but there also doesn't seem to be much movement towards it, perhaps it's too far gone?

Nothing is too far gone. But that's going to need some serious saving
