Posted January 14, 200322 yr comment_23166 help,i updated my 72 240z with a 83 280z turbo motor. accidentally the water hose, burst(old). so i am blessed with a broken head gasket. i replace the head gasket (this is my first time). everything went smooth except when i am installing the sprocket and timing chain....it just wont reach the cam. i am thinking there is a kink under neath, so i turn the crank, turns ok., i lift the sprocket with the cherry picker..no dice, i inserted 2 screw driver on the sprocket holes, it wont go a little higher. i am tired so here i am....please let me hear ur suggestion on how i can install the timing chain sprocket without opening everything in front of the motor?thank you so much,hf240z@yahoo.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4259-installing-sprockettiming-chain/ Share on other sites
February 10, 200322 yr comment_26322 It sounds like you did not block the chain tensioner when you removed the head. If the chain tensioner has poped out you need the remove the front timing chain cover to reinstall it.
