Temp and Oil Gauge Problem

Featured Replies

I am experiencing weird gauge readings on my 1973 240Z. This problem is with the temp and oil pressure gauges only. They appeared to be working OK a week ago but now they sometimes don't move at all.....other times they will fluctuate up and down ever so slightly and then stop all together. It's like they are trying to move. I have replaced the oil sending unit and that seemed to work for awhile but now nothing. The temp gauge barely moves at all. I have tested temp and oil pressure and the reading are normal. Any idea's?

on my 71 ,I had the same issue until I figured out that the plastic lens had some how come a bit loose and was binding against the moving part of the gauge at the lower part of the assembly .I used a small bit of mastic putty on the lens cover and was able to slightly pull out the lens so it was not binding any more , problem solved .

Have fun with your Z

Thanks but binding is not an issue......they were moving freely at one time.

Its in the guage. There is a bi metal contact in there that acts as a voltage stabilizer. It looks like a set of points. I have had success with cleaning the contacts.
