  2. Carl, I have to correct my self. The valve cover has the words "Nissan OHC" written on it not "2400" like I stated in my earlier post. Also, my vin number is 9603. By the way, I placed a few pics in my gallery. I plan to get better pics once. I can get the car on a lift. Will do that soon since I plan to start the tear down process.
  3. Thanks for the advice and great feedback. I will certainly have fun with the car before tearing it down.
  4. I am looking for one or better yet a set of frames from a California dealership. If any one know of a set that is available please let me know.
  5. Thanks but I cant help wanting to start the restore
  6. Hehehe... I guess I count my blessings
  7. Thanks Arne, I figured that would be my best bet. I hated the thought of getting back in that never ending line at DMV.
  8. HLS30 09603 Built 9/70
  9. I just left the DMV and the funniest thing happened. The DMV clerk stated since my car was built in Sept 1970 that it should be registered as a 1970 and not a 1971. I was under the assumption that September signified the start of the new year. In any case, the car is now registered and titled as a 1970. Should I try to correct them or should I just leave well enough alone?
  10. Well I just got the final word from Pierre regarding the Z. I asked him to go over the car so that he can give me a professional opinion of the cars mechanical and electrical state. He again mentioned that he thought the car was in very good condition, and feels that I should keep it as original as possible. Pierre says the engine is in very good condition and compression checks are “spot on” He’s advised me to perform the following; • Change all fluids • Flush entire cooling system • Front Brake job • Charge cooling system (everything works on the AC ) • New Flasher switch • Install new floats and jets in the carbs • Replace three hoses Once the above items are taken car of I have decided that I will strip the car and have it painted the original Universal Blue and proceed with a drivable restoration. I hope the end product will be a very clean driver that is close to show quality. I really don’t want to go all out full show since I intend to drive her as much as possible. I’ve done the “trailer queen” thing and have decided I don’t want those headaches again. All in all I am very happy with the car and can’t wait to get started. By the way, the body man states that it will be easy to prep and paint the car since there are no major body work just a few small dings that can easily be “massaged” out. I will take pics of the car this Friday so that I can post them here.
  11. Actually two dumb questions. 1. What does the "Z" stand for? 2. What does "HLS30" stand for?
  12. Sorry wrong forum
  13. I did offer an invite but he declined stating that he does not care for the internet.
  14. I plan to post pics friday when I get back in town. I will take detailed pics so you guys can see the great shape the car is in.
  15. Hi All, While coming out of a bank here in Palm Springs I ran into a guy getting out of a fairlady. I spoke with him for about 30 minutes about the car and it turns out that he purcahsed it 14 years ago from the original owner that brought it in from Japan while stationed in the military. The owner stated that he's driven the car daily for the last fourteen years and has never had to perform any major work to the engine or tranny. The car has over five hundred thousand miles on it! He has pictures of him and Mr. K. next to the car and even has Mr. K.'s signature under the hood. The car is in rough shape but it is all there and would be fairly easy to restore. It was cool to see that he was enjoying the car and really was delighted to talk about it. Just thought I would share that with you guys
  16. Thanks Arene, My car does have the clutch support and I am planning to put the correct A4 tranny. As I stated earlier I will clean the automatic and store it away in the event I want to use it again. I'm not concerned about the fact that the car did not come with a 4spd since I would tell the person I sell the car to (if I ever sell it) that the car was originally a automatic.
  17. By the way, what is "Bean Dip's advice"
  18. That's just the thing. I don't want to put a tranny that is not "period correct" I plan to clean and save the original transmission just in case I decide I want to put it back original.
  19. I know what you mean. I really did not want an automatic but I figured I could take a clean automatic and swap the tranny for a 4spd. Also, someone mentioned that the automatics may have lived an easier life the the 4spds.
  20. Thanks all! Mike B., Yes, it is the one that I was asking about. Pierre said the car is worth 9000-10000 easily in its current state.
