As a guy who lived and spent many years in the Orient, living 3 years in Japan I saw nothing wrong with the symbol on Sakai's team car. I have a funny story (sorry if the thread has been hi jacked) about the symbol. Our ship was in Singapore for a little liberty and on the dash of the bus that was hired to take us from Sombawang to the MRT station there was a Manji on the dash board. That thing caught the attention of some of my shipmates and they were affended. I said to them: "how would you feel if a Buddist person saw a cross or the fish symbol on your dash and told you he was offened?" I told them that it is no different and that the symbol was stolen and misrepresented by the Nazis. Some of the guys wanted the Navy to stop using the bus because of it....I could not believe it. To stay true to the thread: That badge is real cool, sounds like Alan would love to make a play on it because "1966 features big in my collection".

He seemed like a nice enough guy who was involved in a very tough business. I was no big fan of his methods but I loved watching his show regardless. He was a pioneer in the Hot Rod business and that I respect. I would imagine that there is a fight a foot coming between his son and Jo over the business. I can't imagine it is going to be a smooth transition. I know he is doing a huge burnout right in front of the Pearly Gates.

Hard to say...but when my ignition was bad it caused so many problems. Also check the the fuses. The electrical should not be a major problem once you get to the house and get it in the garage. There is a guy on in this online club who restores light and turn signal switches. The body rust should not be a major problem if you got body work skills. If it is just body rust. The ignition you mean the key on the steering wheel right? Hopefully the electrical wizard checks in and answers you questions.

You know I am not sure, I think it is the 3sp automatic that is the problem. I got an automatic because my daughter wanted to drive an old car, I did not realize that power steering(lack of it) would be a problem (but that is different story). The carbs are fine, I took out the points, replaced with the ignitor. I had the tranny serviced and it was fine. I am thinking about doing the Maxima 4sp automatic with overdrive tranny swap. I have an L28 block that I can go with too, but the car is so original I hate to do it. Another thing about automatics to consider is that they are usually in better shape than 4sp cars. I drove my old 78 on Friday, it steered so much easier than my 73. I did all the up grades to the steering the rack on the car years ago, I guess that is the reason.

Neither did mine until it sat from 1998 until 2005, then in summer of 2007 after I gave it away to my neighbor while he was in the middle of struggling to get it to pass smog, the head gasket went. So we put a P90 block with flat tops, and all new injectors in the car, it passed smog with flying colors but it cost the guy $1500 to buy the engine and have it installed by my friend. All and all the guy has put well over $2K in the car and it still needs paint and body work. I love the 78 and wish I kept it and used the money I bought the 73 with to fix the 78 up. My 78 and I had so many great aventures together. My 73 and I are like a couple who should never have gotten married, right now it is cheaper to keep her....once she is worth more than $8K she is gone.

The way I see it: 73 no smog check, 78 smog check. I hate that comes up but it is the facts. I have a 73 Automatic and I gave my 78 to my neighbor because I did not want to deal with the smog check. It ended up costing my neighbor a few bucks to get the car passed smog, a engine swap was part of it. I drove the 78 on Friday and boy do I have regrets, so I understand the dilema. The only good part about the 73 is it is more original and cleaner but it is a DOG.

How nice to see fellow homies talking the Z hobby (Coopersburg born and raised). I like the Z for $1K; I don't think you can go wrong with that price. I would strip it down and get it back to the beautiful original yellow. I have a perfectly working ignition I took out of my 73Z which indecently came from Springtown PA. The rust is of some concern but not unusual for the east coast. If you are unable to fix it up, I am sure you can resell it for more than you paid for it. Good get, have fun with it.

I can pick that Z apart: What is up with the bumper, where is the chrome? Why would a car with less than 50K miles need not have the original bumpers/chrome? 50K miles, is it documented? It is a PA car, I have a 1973 PA Z, it was a disappointment and its online pictures where so much better. Whoever buys this car will not be happy with the purchase.

I got the brand new in the Nissan bag sitting in the garage, I will try to measure it tonight. I do not plan to release it from its bag.

Years ago I did a Z run with a guy who wanted to go but had his dash out. What he did was strap in all his guages using tie straps, it worked pretty good.

Dude that car looks awful....sorry to say, but that is not a walk away but a run away vehicle. If it looks that bad in the pictures I can't imagine what it looks like in person.

Les told me that he was going to do Butterscotch plastic parts as well, he just wanted ot have a certain number of orders to do it. I can't remember the number. When refreshed the butterscotch really looks great.

I am in the middle of refreshing an off-white interior in my 73. I got new diamond material from Les, new seat covers, all new plastic, brand new console(stored in the rafters since 1993), new used heater bezel, all new Autopol light bulbs and a carpet kit from Les as well. When complete the interior should look like it did the day the car rolled out the showroom execept for the Wesco seatbelts which are awesome. I am lucky that I have a car with a crack free dash. The only part I can not replace are the door panels but they are looking real good regardless. This post has inspired me to take my time and do it right. I will have it complete for the West Coast Nationals. Thanks Mally for the inspiration.

I got the Wesco belts in my 73 and I love them. They work perfectly, great quality, fast shipping and great customer service. I showed them to Sal when he was still at MSA, he liked them too. I would like to think I started the ball rolling on MSA's new belts. I would highly recommend Wesco regardless.
