  2. As the owner of one of the Z's that was in the Nissan warehouse, I can confirm that it was not crushed (the '72 in my sig, not the '73 in my Avatar). I also have a photo that was sent along with the paperwork of the inside of the warehouse showing the car parked amongst the other cars there. I have also personally seen (and touched) 2 other Z's that were in the warehouse, and the person that owns these 2 also saw the 4th Z to come out of the warehouse, so at least 4 of them were sold and not crushed.
  3. Steve, Carl brokered the deal, I actually bought it from the guy has the arguably the best Z-car collection (I think he is at 17 Z's now) in the US (and only lives across town from me). This guy bought my car and two factory resto cars from the Nissan collection, and Carl was kind enough to put me in touch with him and we made a deal. :classic:

Congrats on your newest Z enthusiast :classic:!
  5. Yeah, I am not crazy about them, but the car still has great paint on it, and taking them off would leave the rivet holes - so until the car needs a repaint, I am stuck with them. But, since the '72 is my "daily driver" of the two Z's, I guess they do serve a purpose in keeping the car from getting door dings. :classic:
  6. I think this is the side-molding in question (from my '72Z):

Working in management at a large transportation company (not DHL), and having done some time as a driver, I can offer the following as a carrier perspective on the subject. Regarding delivery -- if the recipient is not home the driver makes the decision on whether or not to leave ("driver release") the package. If the driver feels the package is in a safe place, and that someone will be home soon to get it, they will leave it if they can. The only exception is when the sender pays extra for "signature required" service, which will require the driver to get a signature or if it is a "high value" (insured for several thousand $$$) package. Except for the "high value" package, the driver does not know (or care) whether it is "insured" or not, and it will not impact his/her decision to “driver release” the package. If the driver leaves the package without a signature, and the recipient claims not to have received it, in the end the carrier will pay the claim. However, there are several steps the carrier will take, such as sending the driver out when the recipient is home to confirm where they left it, sending out a member of the management team with perhaps a member of law enforcement, and other steps to confirm whether or not the recipient received the package. Of course, drivers, management, etc gets pretty good over the years at figuring out when recipients are lying, and the steps taken will depend on that, and of course the insured value of the package. Also, carriers keep track of the claims made, and if an individual or an area has a higher than normal incidence of claims for non-receipt, the carrier may declare that individual/area as a “no driver release area”. Also, if a carrier feels that a recipient is being untruthful when they claim not to have received a package, the carrier may require that individual to go to the carrier’s depot to pick up their packages in the future. Regarding this case, unless Dr. Detroit cooperates with DHL in the investigation, and they issue a claim and pay you for the “missing” laptop, then I agree – no refund is due.

Looks like the interior (seats, door panels, etc) is out of the car? Maybe this car just came back from the paint shop?
  9. You know I'm just teasing you Arne :classic:
  10. The car is certainly coming along well! Looking forward to seeing another excellent yellow Z :classic: We have to make Arne so jealous that he ends up finishing and keeping his yellow Z :classic:
  11. Mikey, Maybe the second printing could be of yellow Z. :classic: Then Arne would have to buy two of them (one for the red car, one for the yellow one) Overall, still a great looking shirt, and I may have to get one anyway!
  12. Looking at my friends all original 05/71 Z, and another friends original low mileage stored and babied early 240Z cars, a set of new, never (ok, out a few times) out of the box hubcaps and then my own, used for the past 35 year old hubcaps and the various shades of rear panels, I have formed the opinion that the original paint used fades to a lighter color over time, and that is why we have these descrepancies. I have seen orignal paint cars where the rear area is the darker color that seems to match the original hubcaps as well as lighter rear panels that are a better match to my well used, original hubcaps. Anyways, "that my (theory) and I'm stickin to it" :classic:
  13. Looks nice, if only the Z was yellow :classic:

I would watch the place to see if any work is going on, which will indicate if he was telling the truth. He may have just said that to make you go away since it matches exactly what you said you wanted to do!

Well, looks like the car has sold for the asking price (and quickly too - less than 4 days)! So it would appear that the original question of this thread has been answered :classic:

You are correct, actually, this guy has 15 or 16 very nice Z's, most of which are low mileage orginal 240Z's. Also has #1 of 3000 10th anniversay special 280ZX, as well as 2 of the factory restoration cars and another even lower mileage Black Pearl than the one he is selling. Probably the most amazing collection of Z's I have ever had the privledge to see.

Sorry! I must have missed it during the site upgrades down time!

Saw a really nice looking Black Pearl on eBay for anyone looking for an instant show car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300069673991&rd=1,1 28K original miles and lots of documentation! I have seen this car in person and it is as nice as it looks. The guy that owns it has the nicest collection of Z's I have ever seen (about 15 mint condition cars)! I believe Carl Beck is also familair with this car (and the collection).

Please add me to the list for the clock and oscillator!
  20. Randy, curious if your planning to put the dealer-added side molding parts back on the car when its done, or if your going to leave them off? My 73 does not have them, but the 72 does, and while I prefer the look of the car without them, I can see where they do protect the car...
  21. Welcome jayhawk! Looks like our '73 Zeds are only about 1000 cars apart (VIN # wise). Good luc with your new years project, I think you'll find plenty of help and advice from the board members here!
  22. As David said, we've got several, so I would recommend asking your questions whenever you are ready!

Car looks very nice interior/exterior, but you really can help the value by getting that engine bay cleaned up! If everything else (including the areas Jerry mentioned) is solid (no rust), then you could start towards the high end of the price range Randy mentioned. Also, the more documentation you have about the car, the better the price in some cases as well. :classic:

I have a set I picked up off eBay (as spares) - they are not perfect, and look better in the photos than they are, but I'll sell them to you for what I paid if your interested -- PM me for details.
