If you want a 'Vette, buy one. Don't do this...(ebay)
First one is a joke... Second one is bizarre. Thought it was 2 cars (purple/red?). I like the way it "smiles" at you though... $3,000 in the engine? Still looks like a Nissan L6...stroker? Or has the price of an MSD/Accel combo gone through the roof in the last 6 months...

Vintage Chowini Racing wheels from a Hayashi Racing mold. Shot is while they were still on PO's 280Z not my 240Z.

hi new member
I second Jason's thought. I have re-directed most of the members of my club here...anything you need to know short of insane engine swaps is here (and a few of those just might be too...). Welcome to the club.

Completed ebay listings on 70/71's (note these would not necessarily be comparables): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Datsun-240Z-THE-RIGHT-YEAR-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ140132571131QQihZ004QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971Datsun-240Z-Original-California-Car-With-Extras_W0QQitemZ150133692264QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-240Z-No-rust-rolling-shell_W0QQitemZ170123259356QQihZ007QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-240Z-No-rust-rolling-shell_W0QQitemZ170123259356QQihZ007QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-DATSUN-240-Z_W0QQitemZ300121019337QQihZ020QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The one AZ-240Z is referring to was a 1972 that was part of the 1996 Nissan re-furb project being sold by Park Cities Volkswagon in Dallas. It's initial listing had one bid on $26k that did not meet reserve. It was re-listed with a "buy it now" of $28k and the listing was cut short as I assume it sold locally. I would call the dealership and see if they could help you with the sale price as a comparable. Ebay is tough as it only searches back 1 month in completed listings... Sorry to hear about your loss, but at least it sounds like everyone made it out o.k. Look forward to seeing pictures of the Z. Good luck. Mike A.

Well the topic certainly got me to do a double take... And I haven't mentioned it before but the Jello avatar takes the cake...I have more DK on my I-Pod than I care to admit...pretty sure that goes over the head of 95% of our forum mates...

First ride in a 240Z
I was born in June, 1971 (a month after my current Z was manufactured). I knew immediately it was my destiny to have a Z... Actually, it was 1988 and I was living in Ottawa. A buddy from my part-time job bought a '72 240Z in Montreal and needed someone to drive it back as he didn't know how to drive stick yet (my luck). An awesome 2 hr run on highway 417. The growl the car had in second gear stuck with me and I was hooked...

76 Gutted but painted - How much?
The thing is the value of individual parts will always add up to more than the value of car (unless a really valuable VIN # is in the equation). I wouldn't get too hung up on the dash, that's how all these parts cars are marketed (if the dash is decent). Fair question is, with the next $1200 (and that sounds high, most 240 dashes which I've been watching are $600-800) you have to spend on the car, would you put in into the dash or something else (mine next set of funds will be body/paint & brake upgrades). Spending $1200 on a dash for a car whose resale likely wouldn't be much more than $10k if near perfect doesn't make sense unless you are competing in concours shows. $3500 is fine if it won't take much to get it on the road. Have fun,

Actually a timely note. Had two of my professional photographer friends (one does rock bands, the other product shots for magazines) up to the house today and their industry has gone totally digital. The functionality of digital and the elimination of the time spent developing simply outweighs any possible appeal of film. Mind you the camera the one brought was worth $7,500...could have bought a Z....

76 Gutted but painted - How much?
Parts vs. project would be based on the prevalence of rust (frame rails, floors, battery tray, wheel wells, etc.). Value as a parts car depends where you are and the relative supply available (I assume relative scarcity on the rock...). A decent parts car can be had in the southern US for under $1k. Value would depend on the quality of parts that can be pulled from the vehicle. Some thoughts: 1. Interior parts in great shape seem to command a premium. 2. Engine/transmission are relatively valueless unless high quality recent rebuild or modified (e.g. Weber's). Browse Ebay and check out the parts cars as well the sale price on some parts. The nice thing about getting a parts car cheap is you can fund it by selling off the parts you don't need if you plan it right. Lot of work though... Have fun.

Is there a link or description of the "club CD project". First I've heard of it.

Opinions on this 1973 240z?
That looks much, much nicer. But something that should be preserved closer to stock and not total juiced up.

Opinions on this 1973 240z?
There are other differences to be noted between the different years/iterations of the 240Z. Carl has a good summary on his site: http://zhome.com/History/DesignChanges.htm Some major changes aside from the carbs were exhaust, head and big-arse bumper changes (the head changes were material as the later heads had larger volumes and consequently lower compression) which affected performance and, depending on which jurisdiction you live in, you may or may not be able to modify/rectify. I'd also add that beyond just the '69 240Z's, there is a distinct mark-up on Series I vehicles that were produced until January 1971 and the remainder of '71s still trade at a premium to '72s and '73s (you can debate whether this is justified or not). The '73 is still a great looking, great performing vehicle, just not quite as desirable as some of the earlier years. Cheers,
