Sealing compound on fuel pump
Looks alot like J B WELD to me. Not likely that brand but something similiar.

possible wet cap!
I looked at your public profile and it states that your car is a 75 280. Now, if you have throughly soaked all of the electronic components of the fuel injection system you should probably disconnect all of the electrical connections and blow them dry. Some type of anti corrosion compound should also be applied at this time.

Stub Axle Removal
This is where a 1 inch brass drift comes in handy. You can place one end on the stub and beat the devil out of the other end with a 2 pound hammer. No fear of damage to the stub and the axle will come out.

What can cause a condenser to fail?
You might consider dumping the points and condenser dinosaur and upgrade to a ZX distributor. Very easy to do!

240z Bumper Pricing
They are definitly not 280 bumpers. All of the 280's had the big crash bumpers. I looked at a 260 today and the bumpers on ebay look to be the same. Yes , you can put early 260 bumpers on a 240. Some minor mods may be necessary.

Problems with MSA SS Clutch Line?
OK you guys, the point of using teflon tape on flare fittings is not for sealing but to keep corrosion from starting between dissimilar metals. works great and some time in the future when you want to take the fittings apart you'll be glad to see the tape. How many brake line fittings have you seen that were mangled? Almost all of them. Teflon tape on flare fittings is the deal. Try it, you'll like it.

Original seat cover option?
I've never seen or heard of an original 240Z with anything other than vinyl seat covers. The car is a beauty. Love the wheels.

So dammed complicated
Everything you mention depends entirely on what the ultimate use of the car is going to be. IMO if the car is a daily driver it will handle quite well if you only do maintence on the suspension. Shocks, springs, bushings, etc. And it will be a lot less expensive than a lot of custom mods. Good luck.

Brakes!
There is a tool for pressing the piston into the caliper. You must remove the caliper to use it. You don't need to remove the fluid line. Some parts stores will loan you the tool if you buy from them.

Spindle pin trouble...of a different variety

rear suspension rebuild... Cannot get the lower A-arm to fit onto the hub. Help!
Sometimes you have to shave the powder coating off of surfaces that have tight tolerances.

Water in the oil
Thanks guys. I checked the head and block for straightness. Didn't find any problem there. The corrosion problem remindes me of a similiar problem that occured in the early Pontiac OHC engine. There was a spot inside the thermostat housing that would corrode through and allow water to seep into the engine. I did change the oil and filter after I changed the head gasket. I drove the car for some distance and the water level dropped enough to allow the engine to overheat. That's when I knew that I had a different problem. I don't know Carl's age but I'm looking at 62. Been a motor head most of those years. Still love it,just not that savvy on the Datsun engines yet. I've only been playing with the Z cars for about three years. I'm hooked! Next to the small block Chevy I think they are a terrific engine. My daily driver is a 1981 na coupe that I beat on a regular basis and nothing ever goes wrong with it. The engine with oil in the water is in my 1978. One owner car that has won 1st place in class three years in a row at Z Fest here in Orlando. Go figure, I hardley ever drive it and it has a problem. Thanks again. I've been reading this site for awhile now and I think it's great.

Water in the oil
I've never heard of a L28 block cracking so I ask, where does the L 28 leak water into the oil? My first thought and repair was head gasket but that didn't fix it.

I just can't stress how important a factory service manual is!!!! It's almost all of the info on your Z that need and it is always right at your finger tips.

Steering wheel vibration
For all of you new guys that may not be mechanically inclined, BUY A FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL !!!!!! The early Z's are not that hard to repair and/or maintain but you must have at your side a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. The factory manual will tell you almost everything you need to know about your Z. They are the best guide to repairing your Z that you will ever get. Trust me ! I'm and old Motor head that has always bought the manual first. Good luck and buy a box of band aids.

Scotty, BUY A FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL !!!!!! BUY A FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL !!!!!! It will pay for itself the first time you use it. IMO it's the best sourse of info on a specific Z car that you will find. I think everyone who works on their own Z will agree. I read mine almost every day just to keep learning about my 1978 280. The next best sourse of info is sites like this one. Good luck with your first car. It will remain with you forever even if you sell it at some later date.

ANOTHER Turn Signal Issue
I think I'd try a different turn signal flasher before I did anything. If that doesn't work then try the wire continuity search. Harbor Freight is also a good source of inexpensive digital volt meters.
