Oh yeah! George you want to start this adventure with the car in neutral. Its VERY easy.

The plastic pieces live at the sides and the bottom of the shifter itself. They are called shifter bushings.Next is the "doughtnut"shift boot inner. That closes the tranny hole.Next is the shift boot outer. That seals the area between the tranny and the car.Next is the "Leather " cosmetic part you see.You need ALL of these parts new.Don't waste your time or money doing one at a time. When you see what the shifter bushing's do you will go OHHHHH!! now I know why I rattle!! Have fun!! Daniel

Those plastic shifter pieces we spoke of before are now your problem george. The boot is only cosmetic. Daniel

Radio shack offers a "pigtail" that has a couple of "power ports" on them .They are not able to handle a lighter due to the heat, but they are the ends you require. You could have one of these hooked up,no problem.I wired them up for my wife and ran them under the console so there was enough slack to do what was needed without having the wires in your way hanging from the dash.A caution. When you connect the power source be sure if you want power when the car is off.A P.C. will drain your battery in less than a day should you leave it on in your car.It sucks on monday when both your pc and your car are dead.It didn' t take me but a dozen or so time's to figure that out!!:stupid: Have fun!! The first check I would make is the calipers. They may be locking up under normal use due to wear alone.Your heat theory makes since but, I would think the excess pressure from the heat would just cause the fluid level to rise in the master cylinder.I would think that would be the path of least resistance.Ever put your finger in the fluid for a heat test?Just a thought.Should you find the heat issue is the problem I suggest a shield or moving the lines. The Blanket wrap works until it gets hot then it holds the heat in.A shield with an air cavity would be my first test.I would use aluminum due to the rapid heat dispersal and ease of workability. Have fun!! Daniel

I suggest you mark the location you start from .I would move mine on a 280zx I had to stop hesitation. The problem was when I got my yearly state emissions. If I didn't return it to factory I would fail terribly.I just put a paint dot on the gear on mine.

Two Z car nuts went for a ride one day. They pulled into a gas station and saw a sign that read"Guess the lucky number of the day and get free sex".The attendant came out and asked if they wanted to play. The driver said "Sure I pick number 5.The attendant said Sorry, todays number is 8.He then ask the passenger if he wanted to try.Sure he said I pick 4.I just told you the number was 8 moron! replied the attendant.AS they drove off The passenger said to the driver"I think that game is rigged"I would have thought the same thing replied the driver but, my wife has won twice!! :stupid:

When you clean the battery cables don't over look the location where they attach to the car. Also the old get me home trick is to tap the starter witha hammer.Sometimes that will give you that "one more time"

BambiKiller,I believe the 74 1/2 260 was the first F.I. The 74 had the flat tops and 240 bumpers. The 74 1/2 was closer to a 280 with large bumpers and F.I. I'm sure someone will verify that.Smokey there is a site that explains the change in how the HP was calculated.Perhaps someone remembers where it is .I don't recall when it was put into effect. Daniel

No need for the sad face 2mz's. I was agreeing with your observations.I was just trying to paint a more visual picture.I actually thought of a course adjustment and fine adjustment as on a microscope as reference but ,I thought I would leave that to EScanlon.(And I mean that as a praise for detailed and correct info) Daniel

The new sprockets did not have the same line up?Until you verify why you may be overthinking the problem. If you are 1 tooth off then the dist. advance adjustment could be ending where it should be begining.

Guess I'm in the dark also.I was trying to think where the town of RockVest was in the Carolina mountains:stupid: Daniel

Of course you could just post his phone number and we all could call him around the clock just to "talk about his car'.After a few days and nights of constant phone calls he might just say-Take that damn thing!!! Daniel

Unless your's is real bad,it can be fixed. The is a place here in charlotte near the old coliseum that fixes them. They have done 4 or 5 for me for various cars thru the years. The high pressure blast it,dip it in I assume some sort of acid bath,Then apply the coating to the inside to stop that rust demon forever. There are kits you can by but,I suggest leaving that job to the pros.Have it done correctly and move on..I have a friend that did his own.The problem came when the sealant dried it formed a bubble he could not see.It was a small timebomb. When it popped,it released the liquid into his fuel system. Not good! Have fun. Daniel Oh its called Clausons Radiator. I can't say enough good things about them. They are true pro's.

I vote mech. first.Nothing would be worse than get the body correct and crash due to a mech. failure. The most correct reason. You want all the mech. done so you are not working around a new paint job while slinging wrenches and parts and corrossive fluids.Accidents happen, or should I say acciDENTS. I have a friend thats a glass tech by trade and the chrome is always the last the go in.He doesn't want the gasket to roll and kink the chrome. He uses liquid soap to help it slide.Clean up can't get easier! Two people are required for rookies.Put wide masking tape on the paint side of the Gasket. That give you a little scratch Oop's protection. Daniel OH yeah, the warmer that rubber is the better.Darn sure don't try it when its cold.

The fact that you were just short of his price means your close in price.Give him a day or two and check back. Remind him that you have the cash NOW.Ask him if he really wants to sell it or just talk about selling it.Everyone at this site would hate to sell their baby.I'm sure he's no different. Remind him it will get a good home.As far as the angered phone call.Of course we can think about it but,the reality is that time would be better spent finding your Z.If he has a Z odds are he has Z friends.Who knows,If this falls thru you may get a phone call from one of his friends that also has a Z for sale.Stranger things have happened!Don't burn bridges.Should you give him the asking price 6 months from now would you see that baby in you garage and say Damn,I paid full price! I don't think so.Opportunity is a heavy burden. Daniel

If yours has the round carbs, your good to go.The 73 did have more emissions but not like unleaded only filler at the tank and such.Mine's a 73 with 280 and round tops.If emissions are the largest concern and all else is well with the car ---GET IT!! Also I think the 73 is the only year witha backlit heater control panel.Isn't that right guys? Daniel

Those are part of the ,before its time, dual climate control. You shove a sock into your heat side, crack open your vent. The wife gets full heat and can toast peanut on her side while you travel in comfort!! Primative, but effective! Daniel

The "replaceable mast" can be deceiving. My 300z says that also. The problem is if its the nylon driver part that moves the antenna that breaks, you must disassemble and remove the broken part. Believe me they took all the fun out of working on Z cars when they built the 300Z!!! Daniel

Yes the headlights are on seperate circuits and fuses.Imagine driving fast down a dark road and having a headlight go bad and pop a fuse.If both were on one fuse .Both lights would go out.NOT GOOD!! Two fuses are great!! Have your boyfriend check voltage between the battery-neg POST and the location where it connects to the car.It should be zero.If not the connection is poor.Check the - and + on the battery. If more than 12.5 the system is charging (book reference)Myself I like around 14.V Daniel

What flavor car are you working on?
  24. Daniel posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Keith,I saw that electric one on discovery.Did you notice it runs 247mph on over 6000 size C-batteries!!! Total Electric.!! I guess Daniels heaven is 2mz's hell huh???
  25. My wife drives me home if we go to a party and I "forget myself".She may drive it 6 miles per year. Hey,2many,I didn't know you had one that you could actually drive! Smokie,Say all you want but once you take the vows of "holy headlock" It all changes.I would take the bet she will drive that car.She may even use it to take the clothes of your's that are taking up "her " closet space to the salvation army. Deny if you wish. We that have walked in those shoes know the true story! ROFL Daniel
