Door panel clear washers for Series 1
dutchzcarguy, Please provide a photo of the sheet metal screw (your photo is a machine screw) used for this application. None of the sheet metal screws in this thread or the thread below have the JIS marking you indicate. Naturally, I do not want to install a JIS screw where one was not originally installed during original production. Photographic proof of JIS is appreciated. Thanks, Keith

Door panel clear washers for Series 1
Final production: The washer material used contains elastomer this minimizes cracking. Although the washer is not generally exposed to sunlight, I have not conducted long term tests on the color fastness or rigidity.) The flash on the inner hole is covered by the fastener head. The next challenge is to locate a manufacturer of the correct size oval, phillips head screw. Keith

Wheel wrench styes
A similar (if not the same) tool kit was included with the International Harvester Scout offered with the Nissan SD33 and SD33T engine offering. IH used SAE in the assembly of the chassis/body, so owners/mechanics were accustomed to owing SAE tools. The Nissan SD33 and SD33T engine, using metric fasteners, presented a unique challenge to owners/mechanics, who may not have ready access to proper fitting tools. Keith

Wheel wrench styes
Kats, I had to edit the descriptors to better represent the position of the tips. So to clarify, your 01/10 has the top style, your 06/72 has the bottom style? Thanks, Keith

Wheel wrench styes
I have two different style wheel wrenches, both fitting the stock Series 1 lug nut. As you can see, the primary difference is the position of angle tip, one parallel (top) one perpendicular (bottom), to the handle. Most 240Zs appear to have the bottom style. Does anyone know the model year application to both top and bottom styles? Thanks, Keith

Part Prices Discussion
Unfortunately or fortunately, Datsuns S30s attract a wide variety of owners. Some owner’s maintenance/repair budget is designed to just keep the vehicle on the road. Therefore they want the “cheapest” part available that is easily accessible….just a mouse click away on many websites. Some owners are interested in long term value of their vehicle and will “invest” in quality parts. This requires customer research on the quality and availability (we will probably face supply change issues at least until 2023) of a part. The parts market must try to balance both demands. Quality parts at a “fair” price are available, often requiring buyer research, ordering and returning mislabeled parts, and delays in project completion. I find it interesting that a potential Datsun S30 restoration buyer will research an auction listing, ask questions of the seller regarding type of paint and ask for photos of the restoration process and never ask for information about the parts (and materials and supplies) used. The recent 1971 Datsun 240Z Series I sale (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-209/) by CW240Z72 is a great example of providing a buyer a list of parts used in the rebuild. With the early S30s values exceeding $60k+ owners of these vehicles should demand quality parts and (most importantly) be willing to pay the price. Keith
