I don't want him near my wallet either. I vote with my wallet and there are plenty of other places to spend money where honesty is a part of the deal!

Car Collection Terminology and Standards
The deal I was referring to was posted on the 240z.org mailing list for the past few days. It involves a member who bought a car off eBay from a well known SO Cal restorer/former advertiser here who listed a 240Z as being "All Original" and claimed to only be selling it because he didn't have time to restore it, or something like that. When it was received by the buyer it had an L28 and 5 Speed transmission in it, among other relatively minor discrepancies compared to the description written into the auction page. Seller refuses to accomodate the buyer with a discount from the sale price or to consider any other form of compensation for the descrepancy. I've deleted the mail list for the past few days from my computer, but maybe someone else has a copy they can forward to you.

Car Collection Terminology and Standards
If you are refrring to the "All Original" 240Z that arrived with an L28 and 5 speed trans...............I disagree. "ALL Original" has only one meaning, PERIOD. The "restorer" who sold it DID materially misrepresent the car, and considering the knowledge he must have to restore these cars, he HAD to know what he as doing. He has lost at least this customer due to his unwillingness to stand behind the product he sold through a fraudulent auction.

Custom Wiring Harnesses (Part 2)
Have you ever tried to use (say) a 71 harness in a 73 Z? Or even a early 71 harness in a 72 Z? Many of the connectors are slightly different. Length of wiring to components is sometimes different. Turn signal switches come to mind. Hazard switches are another. Cigar lighters in different locations = different wire lengths needed. Fuse boxes (Long tail vs Short tail, Lighted heater control panel v.s. Non-Lighted. Some of the Dashboard instruments seem to have different connectors in different years of Z's. I'll bet there are other anomalies as well Nissan wasn't very consistant in the wiring department. I am really not trying to dissuade anyone from putting together a team to work on this if that is what they want to do, but it would be a shame for folks to jump into it and THEN realize that it is more work than they planned to tackle after having spent time and money. For my money the resultant product must have soldered connections EVERYWHERE, Shrink-tubing where any bare terminal is located, and the highest quality materials and workmanship throughout. Anything less is a false economy.

Anyone like VIDEO's in the SNOW!!!!
I tried to view the videos. All I got was audio, and a black (blank) screen.

Z aerodynamics
My 240Z that I owned in the late 70's through mid 80's had a Airdam without brake ducts (see my Gallery), and my current 240Z has one with brake ducts. I believe that I'll be going back to one without brake ducts before she gets to a paint shop. I thought my tastes had changed, but they really haven't. I like it without ducts.

Voltage regulator question
I don't know how well they work in GM cars, or Z cars, but I have a friend who did this conversion on a Toyota 4X4 and he ends up replacing the alternator every 6 mos. to 10 mos. for the past 4 years. He gets a new Alt from the retailer under warranty, but I wouldn't want to keep getting stuck all over the state with a dead battery and have to keep doing the swap out, so I won't waste any of my time doing this. Maybe other folks don't have this problem, but this example has sure turned me off to even considering it for my car.

Coolant lines on Carbs?
"Normal" water/coolant line should be fine. They weren't covered in a heat wrap from the factory.

Custom Wiring Harnesses (Part 2)
Happy Meal toys are simple plastics. In the US, computers made in China are routinely purchased with "extended warranties", backed by the giant company that contracted the build in China. This is something that would not be available to us as a small group of wiring harness buyers dealing with a nameless, faceless company half way around the world. We would be minnows in a shark tank, so to speak. Who would represent us to the Chinese company/government in negotiations and if/when problems arise? This would involve import duties to be paid and probably a lot of paperwork. (Alan T probably has some idea of what would be involved) Wasn't the Marquis De Sade from your country? I thought all French were "kinky". Just kidding Frederick!

Voltage regulator question
One thing is that you can get alternators with a higher output rating in the "internally regulated" catagory. I don't believe that the "externally regulated" alternators for Z cars ever came in ratings of more than 50 Amps. Less complicated wiring in the car would seem to be another possible benefit. And when you replace the alternator with another, you start out with a voltage regulator that is, if not new (in the case of a rebuilt alternator), at least has been tested to ensure that it is functioning properly. I am not aware of any car manufactured in the last 15 years that did not have an internally regulated alternator as standard equipment.

Coolant lines on Carbs?
On 240Z's the coolant flow through the intake manifold and carbs was to heat the carbs quiker upon "cold starts". After a certain temperature is reached, there is a valve that closes to shut off the colant flow. I would asume that the purpose is the same on 260Z's with the "bodanker" carbs.

Custom Wiring Harnesses (Part 2)
I don't think there is a way, but IF there were a way it would take a "Super Moderator" (as opposed to a regular moderator) to do it. Frankly, I haven't seen (from my viewpoint) any confusion with a Part 1 and Part 2. If there is a problem, it is easily ended by closing one of the threads to new posts. Anyone following this subject must by now realize that this is a MAJOR undertaking when one considers all of the different varieties of harnesses in the various year models of Z cars (70-78), and then you have the different goals of the potential purchasers (100% OEM, updated to current technology, hybrid harnesses for EFI &/or Turbo installations in cars that didn't originally come so equipped). Farming out sections to different people to work on is a tricky issue at best. When this ocurrs you invariably end up with different levels of competancy which result in varying levels of quality. This would end my interest in purchasing a harness, as at that point, I'd rather do it myself to ensure quality and compatibility of the entire product. I wouldn't be interested in a harness made in China either. When was the last time you bought something made in China that was actually well made, durable, and properly engineered? For me the answer is "never".

Monster Garage
With the income from West Coast Choppers, Discovery Channel, and the associated tie-in merchandise I believe that he's already well on the way to affording to do whatever he wants in a short time. Still, to me, he didn't seem like the type that put money before personal integrity. Of course, some people actually shop at AutoZone, so maybe they do sell some things that aren't in the P.O.S. catagory. Oh yeah, they sell oil and other bottled chemicals. They probably can't f*ck that stuff up (unless they re-bottle it at 50% strength). :stupid:

trivia
Hi Frank: I have seen a couple of rubber "grommets" in the right rear wheel well where fuel vent hoses pass through. Not sure they would qualify as "plugs", but they do serve to seal holes in the chassis. I haven't looked in the left rear whelwell of a 240Z in many years so I'll leave that for someone else to report upon.

Valentines Day Rhymes
These are entries to a Washington Post competition asking for a Rhyme with the most romantic first line........but the least romantic second line. 1. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss But I slept with you, because I was pissed. 2. Thought that I could love no other Until, that is, I met your brother. 3. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty and so is your head. 4. Of loving beauty you float with grace If only you could hide your face 5. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot; This describes, all that you're not 6. I want to feel your sweet embrace But don't take that bag, off of your face 7. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes - Damn, I'm good at telling lies! 8. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife: Marrying you screwed up my life 9. I see your face when I am dreaming. That's why I always wake up screaming 10. My love, you take my breath away. What have you stepped in to smell this way? 11. My feelings for you no words can tell, Except for maybe.... "go to hell?" 12. What inspired this amorous rhyme? Two parts vodka, one part lime.

Seems that Jesse James has sold his soul to AutoZone. Speed TV is now plastered in AutoZone ads starring J.J. I kinda had him pegged as a guy who expected more quality than what "I" find at AutoZone, and someone who would not pimp any old product that offered him money. Guess I was wrong on this.
