Yeah!! Done the timing light...plug gaps....vaccum advance. I use the highest octane I can get at the pumps! Thing is, I never had the problem before the rebuild....so something changed?! What would happen if the chain was off by a tooth or two? Zedguy

Hi Z-heads!! Got a pinging problem I hope you can help me with. My Brother-in-law rebuilt my '73 engine a year ago. GREAT....except for the pre-detonation!! It's worse when it's cold....then it's just bad on hard excelleration. It seems to disappear around 3500 RPMs. (Can't quite remember,as it's winter here and the car is in hibernation!!) We've played with the timing and even advancing it doesn't clear it up completely. Could we have gone a tooth or two out when putting on the timing chain? Would that cause this problem? My B-I-L doesn't think he messed that up, but I remember that the new sprockets didn't have the same line-up 'groove' as the original. Any ideas? Thanks, Zedguy

Geez....I don't know. My wife loves cars, Auto racing....and is just plain supportive of the things I love to do. The thing that works is that I support the things she likes to do as well. I know ALOT of guys who think all the things their wives want to do are STUPID. :stupid: They constantly make fun of them. (ie shopping, movies, crafts...whatever) Then the guy thinks their wife is a b*#tch because she questions HIS past times. It's a give and take thing. The Z thing is easy with us because she gets enjoyment out of it as well. A good example is Hockey. I play all year around...she's not a big fan. The trade off was that I gave up playing on the weekends to have 'us' time....and watch games on TV only when it's MY team playing...or playoffs. (Also, I never give her a hard time about TV shows she likes that I think are stupid) I even give up playing the occassional game to do something that is important to her. Thus, I never get grief over these things and get all the support in the World when new stuff comes up. Give and take. You often get what you give!! :classic: You asked for advice.....you got it!! That's what works for me and I'm a VERY happy guy!! Burn Rubber!! Zedguy ps-My wife also thinks it's better than being out chasing other women!! :paranoid: Perspective is important!!

My wife will be happy to know there are other wives out there supporting their Z head men!! She's always been a car nut, but more into the muscle car thing. (She used to drive a Candy Apple red, race blown, 454ci '74 Stingray) She didn't know anything about the Z 'til she met me. Christmas and Birthdays are now for buying her dear Hubby Z toys and accessories. I'm the luckiest Guy in the World!! Zedguy (from Canada, eh!)
