Swapping VINs on Dash
I have the same question as DeeDee. While restoring my Z, I had the dash out and I removed the Vin plate in hopes of getting a new dash. I have since lost my vin plate. How could I get a new one made, with my same vin number? Thanks all. Rick.

72 Z
Well gang, I am down here in San Diego and in one of the towing yards they have a 72 240Z. Title is clear, body is straight with little rust. Interior is shot. color is blue with white interior with many interior parts missing. If someone is looking for a good shell, this may be what you are looking for. I believe there is a picture on craigslist.com. Just put Datsun Z in keywords. Let me know what you think. Rick

Which QUIET electric fuel pump to use?
Go to the wrecking yard and get a fuel pump from a carburated RX-7. Quiet and flows beautifully.

another barn car
Hopefully this is a good sign that Z cars are being recognized in the classic car market

Lsd
Forgive me if this has been discussed before. Having an R200 rearend in my Z, is there an LSD rearend I could get from a wrecking yard to bolt in? Or, is there an inexpensive upgrade I could use?

Your thoughts wanted, preservation/restoration?
Excellent info Carl. The car is fully restored (body taken down to metal and painted the original orange everywhere), both engines rebuilt and the car has had two previous owners, total of 87,000 miles. Will use the 2.8 while I drive but it sounds like I should put in the 2.4 to sell. Your thoughts.

Your thoughts wanted, preservation/restoration?
I am almost finished with my 1970 Z. I converted to a 5-speed with the r200 rear end. I also have two engines. One is the original matching numbers 2.4 liter. The other is a 2.8 liter with a modified p90 head, warm cam and headers. If I ever sell it some day, someone will get two engines. My question is, will it be worth more because of this?

So Sad
Well, I had dropped my 70 Z off on July !st at the body shop. They told me it would be done the end of Sept. Now here it is the end of Oct, they said it was ready for paint. The body has so many ripples and waves. The body was in excellent condition when I brought it to them. After fighting with them for most of the day, I towed it out of there and brought it to another body shop. Four months wasted and $2500.00 given to them up front. Hopefully, it will be done in another four months. I was so excited to drive it soon. Oh well. I just had to vent. Thanks for listening. Rick.

It looks like a full restoration. Their web site has not yet updated to this months magazine.

classic motorsport
Hello everyone. Classic Motorsport magazine just bought a 1970 240Z as their new project car. This is a great magazine, and with the addition of the 240Z project, each issue will be exciting. Enjoy, Rick.

San Diego Crusing?
I live in San Diego, not a member of the San Diego Z club, just don't have time. It is a great place to own a Z, especially with all the wrecking yards in the area. Rick

compression ratio
Thank you. I knew my question was a little vague. With all the reading and research, I am going to assume (I know) a 9.5 CR. I hope I am right. Thanks again. Rick.

compression ratio
The head was at the machine shop for 2 months, I would rather not take it back. To find out the CC's might take another month. The block is a flat top piston F54 and the head gasket is from felpro. Is it possible to find out a ballpark figure? Let me know, thanks, Rick.

compression ratio
Hello all, my 1983 f54 block is all set. What I want to know is with my P90 head. I had the head milled .050, with the stock block (non-turbo), what would be my compression ratio? Is an easy answer possible? Please let me know. Thank you, Rick.

What do you do for a living?
Cars are in my blood. Born in Detroit, Michigan. Father worked for General Motors. Started restoring Z's in 1982 during High School. Graduated college in San Diego with a Finance degree. After odd restaurant jobs, so I could restore Z's during the day, I now sell cars at a VW dealership and have my own dealership. This way I can buy parts real cheap. On my days off I am finishing my last Z, a 1970. Having a baby in Nov. Will not have any more time. I am sad, but very happy at the same time. Rick.

Cam Choice (again i know)
I have the same engine. I did a 262/272 grind and a 450 duration. It will be out of the machine shop soon. This seems to be thr best grind for every day performance.
