  1. Thanks, that's the ticket
  2. Installing exhaust pipes on MSA3-2-1 header. Does the short straight pipe go on the collector first or the longer slightly bent bent pipe go on first?

One connection was only wrapped and it came loose. I solder all connections and am now good to go. Thanks.

Have test light. Note:car was an auto converted at sometime to 4 speed. I have fixed some hacked wiring. What am I testing? I guess I could have a bad connection.
  6. I would suggest draining the fuel tank and replacing the fuel filter.
  7. I drove my 73 from my old house to new house. Replaced points with Pertronix ignition and flamethrower coil. 3 wire tach wasn't working and replaced that as well. Car starts but dies when key is released to run position. All fuses are good. After said problem I replaced solid state voltage regulater with stock voltage regulator with same results. Any ideas?
  8. Bought one! Thanks.
  9. Putting my 73 back together and found mounting bosses for choke cable bracket broken off. Anyone encounter this and what was your repair. I'm thinking of epoxying two nuts to the back of the console.
  10. Thanks, Blue. But I need the mounting point of the cable that runs around the right side of the blower motor.
  11. I have the Haynes and also the FSM but neither is definitive in how the cable sheath is held in place. There are small clips that hold the sheaths for the other three cables but I can't figure out how the air/vent/heat cable is secured.
  12. Can someone take a quick pic of the passenger side underdash area, right side of blower motor? I have an idea where the cable clamp goes but I'm not certain.
  13. I replaced a non-operational C/D player in my 73 with an original AM/FM radio. I'm guessing the "installer" used self tapping screws to hold the escutcheon plate on but it looks to me like the screw holes are threaded. What size do I need?

got it figured out. Just need to find where heavy red wire out of heater harness connects to.
  15. I think I saw a dryer on OEM surplus parts. Not sure if it is useable on a Z.

I pulled an inoperative C/D player out of the dash and I am attempting to install an OEM radio (removed from my 1st 72 about 1990). I can't seem to seat the radio in the metal bracket because the wiring harness for the fuse panel and another harness for other accessories gets stuffed behind the radio. Does the harness get routed outside and to the right of the radio bracket? I've tried that and can't get enough room to plug in the radio harness. At the moment, I am clueless.
  17. Where did you send it for the rebuild?

    Check craigslist in phoenix.
  19. I have the black hood off. I need to get the tach out of the metal housing.
  20. The tach in my 73 was dead. Found another 3 wire tach but the housing has a bracket spot welded to it. My old one has 2 studs on the back and was held in place with wing nuts. I want to remove the guts and swap housings. I removed all the nuts and screws and it won't come apart. I haven't applied brute strength yet for fear of breaking something. Anyone take a tach apart?
  21. Turns out there was a small nut in place of the wing nut holding it in place. Thought I had a spare 3 wire. Turns out I have 5 4-wire tachs and 3 280 tachs. :disappoin
  22. My tach is dead. PO had installed column mounted tach (light wired to left front marker). Removed wing nut on back (only one was installed) and tach won't budge. How much force is required?
  23. Have you tried calling any of the supporting vendors?
  24. I say give him a break. At least he acknowledged your ride. I worked in Seattle for one summer and have found it to be the cleanest city I have ever visited. Hardly ever heard a horn blow and very few drivers used hov lane illegally. That was in 95 though.
