  1. Thanks for the replies and details. This is a customer car for the shop I own and it's a background project between more pressing work. I'll snap a few pictures and follow-up within a few days when things quiet down. Carl
  2. I'm working on a 1978 280Z that someone started to convert to Megasquirt and cut a lot of wires. I've purchased a used ECU, engine wiring harness, and appropriate parts to put the car back to stock. I have it to the point where I have spark and the fuel pump and relay are working properly. However, it won't fire the injectors. I'm pretty sure it's because there isn't a wire for the revolution signal on the negative side of the coil. The coil has a black with blue tracer wire going to the positive side of the coil. It comes from the body harness. The positive side also has a wire that feeds the distributor module. The negative side just has one wire that also feeds the distributor module. Looking at the factory wiring diagram, it looks like there should be a blue wire on the negative side of the coil that ultimately ends up at pin 1 on the ECU. I can't find the blue wire on either the body harness or the engine harness. I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the correct direction. Can you confirm I'm looking for a blue wire and tell me which harness/area it is in? Thanks, Carl
  3. Thanks everyone. I can already tell this forum has a great culture and lots of knowledge. I'll keep you posted as things progress. The Z cars in the shop right now are all kind of background projects during the summer and we'll be picking back up on them soon.
  4. Mike, What level of subscription do I need to download the files? Thanks, Carl
  5. Mike, thanks for the help. I did put up an introduction with a couple of pictures. I'm glad to subscribe as well. Steve, we do some restomod and hot rod work from time to time, but most of the time we strive to make cars factory correct. There's nothing more frustrating than cars with "creative" repairs that the next person (usually me!) needs to unravel. Leon, thanks for the link.
  6. Hi everyone. I own a classic car service/restoration shop in Michigan called Eclectic Motorworks. As the name implies, we see quite a variety of classic cars. Our business has traditionally been about 60% British, 15% German, 15% Italian, and the remaining 10% American and Japanese (mainly NA/NB Miatas). But in the past few years, we're seeing more Z cars. We currently have a one-family owned 260z, a 280z, and an original owner 280zx Turbo in the shop. All have been parked for many years and are in to be put back on the road (our most common service for many cars). I've attached a couple of pictures of the cars lined up in our service bays. We have an in-house chassis dyno (Dynojet) and we will dyno tune each car when the time comes (we've already had the 260 and 280zx on for some preliminary rough tunes). Anyway, we have been having a little trouble getting some parts and information for each of these cars, so I joined the forum so that I can get some of the detailed knowledge about the cars as we're making them roadworthy again. We really strive to fix everything properly and usually to the way the factory did it so that the next person who works on it can understand it. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi. I just joined this forum so please excuse me if I'm asking a dumb question. I own a classic car restoration/repair shop and we're seeing more Z cars with wiring issues. I see that this forum has wiring diagram downloads. I joined the forum to get the downloads, but got the message "Your current membership does not allow downloading of our files." I used the contact link with that message to ask what type of membership I need to download, but have not heard back. Can any of you help? Thank you, Carl Heideman, Eclectic Motorworks LLC
