measuring the float may not work on all carbs. I take a tube and blow into the float valve to see when it closes. I make both the floats the same so the carbs are balanced. I found the setting was different for the carbs I have.

Oh .. why ... oh GOD why ..... sob ..sob ... What I could have done with that car with the money he spent on it .. now it is good for nothing .. I would give hime what the sterio is worth.

Hi Dave .. I bought a 77 280 last year and after selling my Prelude that was my daily driver (I was offered way too much money to turn it down) I was forced to make the 280 my daily. It is almost untouched since 77. I took out the auto and put in a 5speed (easy job) and have since taken out the FI and installed rebuilt SU's. I had an non-run/start fault we could not track that was clearly in the electrics somewhere and I decided the FI system was not really a good system to start with so out it went. The car needs all new suspension and I think there are u-joints going. I drive to work every day with it (40 min drive to work and 40 mins home) and I am totaly amazed at how nice this car is to drive (even in the state it is in) I can sit on 120 kms with no vibration or noise and it is perfectly smooth. These cars are very well built cars. With the SU's and the 5 spd I now have more HP than I had and I am getting better MPG. I also have a very reliable car that if I do have a problem with it it will be very easy to fix. Simple .. fuel or spark. Very easy to track these issues ... not easy with FI and all the electrical crap that goes with it. Here is a question for you all. Do you think I have de-valued my car buy putting the SU's on it? Hi Rick .. Back in '95 I married my wife in Adelaide SA (where we were living at the time). I had my ute stolen on the eve of our wedding. The wedding went great and all had a good time, and one of my mates found the Holden HQ on his way home. It had afew booze bottle in it with clear fingerprints on them and the cops didnt care. if you do a search at the B -J site .. you will find z's that are for sale and have sold. From memory , there was one there that sold for big bucks .. I cant remember how much tho. I think B- J can get big bucks for most cars.

I took out my auto and put a 5spd from an 82 maxima diesel into my 77 280. It seems to be geared better than most and it has a shorter through so shifts great. Only problem is it needs some new bearing work because in deceleration there is some growling noise. BTW I also took out the FI and installed rebuilt SU's. The car has responded like a person who has been running through knee deep water for awhile then on an open track with a tail wind. I guess that is what happens when you let the motor breath better. ok .. can 240's be found easily or cheaply .. for a project or a driver? Were there many imported?

My wife and I are thinking about moving back to the great land of OZ and I was wondering if it is worth my bringing back my 77 280 with me or can I find a z pretty cheap still down there. I have to admit, when I lived there I did not look at z cars .. mostly women .. but that is another story. If these cars are worth quite abit these I would look into importing it. Thanks guys ... sorry guys ..to me there is something about a jet black Z . I am painting my z this year and if I change it from its now grey coulour, it will be to jet black. More body work though to hide all bumps. But It is worth it (see avatar ... my old z from way back !)

Ok ..so I am not very good with electrical problems .. I am good with mechanical stuff. But I need to fix these little issues myself. I am wondering if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction. I just need some pointers to get started on these little faults. I am just not too sure where to start looking for the problems. I have look at all the obvoius ones like fuse panel, wire conections etc. Problem 1 My washer pump does not work. It had always leaked anyway so didnt use it, but the pump did work. I have bought a seperate pump that should work fine .. the bottle doesnt leak , I have hooked up the two wires to the new pump (both ways to see if that helped). My first guess is that the switch on the steering column is shot ... how do I test to find the problem? Problem 2 My rear defroster doesnt work. It is not the fuse. The light on the dash comes on when I flip the switch, but no defrost, How do I test this one .. I have checked the electrical connections at the window. This is a 77 280 BTW ..Thanks .. I am changing my drivers door handle on my 77 280. I have managed to remove the two nuts .. there is some bleeding on my arm but not too bad yet. What now? Do I need to push the arm out of where it locks into the handle itself ? Is it easier to remove the window ? .. Anyone who has done this please help me with this job .. Thanks .. Bruce

Thanks guys .. I have changed my thermostat first with a lordco one that ran too hot and then bought one from Nissan that I think runns too cold. I have properly purged the system on air when I changed the thermos .. so I am up for a new heater core. This funny thing is that I bought a new heater valve cause the old one is stuck and thought that was the problem. I guess you never know for sure till you rip into it hey?

ok .. I am back inside now warming up ... I took the fan motor off .. and it looks like the valve has 2 pipes one it .. in and out ... that are not connected to anything. I think I will assume the lack of heat is from a clogged heater core. I guess someone before me bypassed the valve. Am I seeing this right or am I missing something? Thanks ..Bruce

crap .. that wasnt the answer I wanted ... it is cold outside !!! I was hopping to rip the old one out and shove the new one in and run back inside to warm up. haha Thanks for the answer tho ,,..Ü

Hey all !! I am about to change my interior heater control valve so that I can tlk in a lower voice when I drive this winter ... Do I need to drain my Antifreeze???? Thanks ...Bruce

I really hope he gets it ..hahah and I really wonder why ..or if .. he would pay that in the first place. This would all make my 77 280 worth more when I am done. This place he bought it from seems to have many overpriced cars listed. Those TR6's are not worth the price listed .. or even close to it! But I guess a car is woth whst someone will pay for it.

Is Ebay really the best place to sell a car like this?

Ok .. for all who is interested .. I am almost finished this conversion and have found that the choke from a 240 will mount into my console .. I just need to drill 1 hole in the metal bracket to get the screw holes to line up underneath where the choke lever mounts. Since I have installed the SU's the motor seems to really like me. I fell much more power and the car runs great. The header has helped too I think. There only small things now to finish and then the big paint job next spring. I drive this car 50 kms to and from work every day and love it. I just hope the Canadian winter doesnt cause me to plow into someone. I went out and bought new winter tires. Cheers all ... BTW .. anyone wanting advice on converting their FI to SU's feel free to contact me. I would be happy to tell you all I have learned from my conversion. Bruce
