  1. is it full of trans fluid? sorry just had to ask... is the fluid brown and burned smelling,. anyway get a slave cyl from the parts store they are cheap, you could also get a tranny mount from the parts store to, and if your going to put a five speed in i would search a little bit and find out if itll fit int right there is some mod to be done to the early cars trans tunnel do to the shifter, it will fit if you get it from, a 70-83 not turbo z car (please correct me if im wrong) you should take the tranny mount from there to ensure you get the right on at the store.

    the electric fuel pump wont start untill the car is running at 400 rpm and above, get the mechanical pumped checked it might be fubared.
  7. i think that they do need need electrity to function, altho you should get somthing try getting a fresh battery and get the alt and vr tested they might not be chargeing the battery, do you get any gauges when you just turn the key on but not start it?

  10. my vacume advance dont work on my 74 260 its retro fitted with 72 round tops, in the haynes manual it says that the 72 vac adv starts at 3.94 in Hg and the 74 vac adv starts 11.8 in Hg now can the 72 carb pull that vacume should i change the diafram to a 72??

    ok First the alt and vr are new i changed those when i got the car as they where bad, the battery is a gelcell optima battery that i just swap in today with no change, the only aftermarket thing in the car is a clarion stereo and two speakers, i dont even have them on when it does this, its really visable when the lights are on and not so much when they are off.

    well its not the battery i swap that out this morning with my optima and it still does it, this also seems to point at my starter being stupid as it has been a pain to crank the engine over in the morning and when it has been sitting for a while, some time it cranks fine then i get a click noise then it slows down like a low battery mabey solenoid? On the Everything dims topic it really only seems to do it when i turn the lights on.

    ok thats the last thing really left thats hasent been really checked over, the posts have been cleaned as well as the cables at both ends but i havent checked the charge, it came out of my old car that the cam broke in when i was fixing this one up. i went threw my haymes book after and thought of the battery, i have a optima battery in my 65 stang that i can swap out as i dont drive the stang everyday. ill try that and see if it helps also at idle when it dims can the ignition not be getting 12v? causeing a rich mixture? thanks for the help!!

    At idle Everything slows down heater blower , Dash lights, head lights, i step on the gas it comes back. its a 74 260z it has new alt and vr belts tight, fuses are ok.

    Try Pulling the Hazard switch and cleaning it its a really simple switch with contact that connect the Circut it might be dirty as its not used all the time, mine was i would get intermitent turn signals then none, then i lost my hazards to then i cleane the switch

    Yes go see if they have tapes of it happening that could make the police take more notice, also check around and body shops and things for z comming in for paint etc.

    well at least when my dash get done ill i have to do is drive it there! they are like only 30 mins away from me. kinda the same with z therapy they are about 1 hour away Sorry had to say somthing when i saw that they had a north a us office and checked saw where it was!!

    put dielectic(sp?) grease between the contacts and fuses then it will keep good contact and not burn your fuse box they tell you to use it on spark plugs to so you dont fuse the clip to the spark plug

    they are 3 screw round tops, i replace the coil with the correct one and got rid of that Capacitor as my repair manual wiring diagran dont show it there it was also soldered in the eyelet connector, it seems to run a little better now got to replace the plug wires soon they are pretty ratty, the spark plug are fairly new i put them in when i got the car they are the cheap autolights but that was the best i could afford at the time and they do ok.

    ok looked under the tape that was there on the yellow black wire and he soldered it to a wire that goes to a spade connector that hooks in the coil, looks like its not a very good solder joint anyway also there is a wire that gose to what looks like a condescer thats next to the coil dont know it thats is suppost to be there or not.. help is welcomed

    on my 74 260z i got for free the owner before last adapted what looks like a gm coil to use on the z, it looks as tho he just wrapped some wires about the orignal eyelet connectors and put tape over it, could this cause, resistance? thus reducing spark? the plugs have been black and it smells of gas when i have the choke on, but according to what ive read and been told my carbs have been adjusted properly (stumbles but keeps running) im going to look under the tape tommrow and see whats up but could that be a problem?
