  3. For those using MIG to replace floor pans and frame rails (rotisseries too)... do you find Flux is sufficient or is gas required? Many flux MIG units can be purchased for around US$200. I'd rather not buy up if I don't need to. In either case, I've never welding before but plan to. Figure, practice practice practice will do the trick. Northern NJ Larry

Western Morris County just off Rt 80 near Lk Hopatcong. Sounds like your nearby. I'm just started to tear down my 71 and am always looking for someone to work with (I supply beer). Northern NJ Larry

Here in the states, at least in the NY area, there used to be a Z Club that printed/mailed Z-Bulletin newsletters. I used to have a large stack but sold them when I sold my previous Z back in '89. Anyone else recall these newsletters? Does anyone have them? I'd love to scan them and make them available electronically... Northern NJ Larry

My newly acquired 71 hasn't turned over in at least 10 years. That being said, I'd like to verify it isn't seized. I understand that I should place some oil in each cylinder and probably pull the cover and put some oil on the rockers, etc. After that, though, how do I manually turn the engine? Can this be done without removing the radiator, etc? Don't even suggest anything involving electric... whole other can or worms not yet address.. First priority to strip care to frame and pull engine. I'm told, the engine and tranny were rebuild shortly before it was 'parked'.

  10. Northern NJ Larry here.. i'm 32... just acquired my 2nd Z a few weeks ago. It's a 71 1/2 240Z. My first was a 77 280Z in great shape that I purchased in 86 for $3K. Sold it in 89 for $3K, because, get this, I couldn't fit a refridgerator in it. Of all stupid reasons... Well, I've had the bug since and just gave up the garage to rejoin the club. The 71 was parked in 92 and hasn't run since... it spend all but the last year in a barn. I'll plan to strip it to frame and repair structure and then rebuild up. Don't think I'll go the 'restore' route but rather, more the street modified. If anybody has an old 'whale tail' I always loved those. In any case, I just got the car up on jacks today and finished draining the old fuel/sludge. What does 12 year old fuel turn into anyway? Seemed like molasses.. Check out the pics in the gallery... Oh yeah, I'll post a pic of my old 77... both before and after I sold it. Bet ya can't guess who wins when a UPS Big Brown plays 'tag' with a Z. Northern NJ Larry

  12. I've just acquired (this past Saturday) a 1971 240Z. I'm finding some parts seem to have been replaced with pieces from later model years (e.g., the hood). I suspect the rear hatch gate is not original as well as the defroster elements run horizontally... I thought on the 240s the ran vertical. Which way did they run in 1971 and for a bonus, when did they change?

I've just acquired (this past Saturday) a 1971 240 that I plan to make a 5-10 long term project of. The car has been repainted a few times, but I suspect the original color may have been red (903?) but haven't yet removed any original bolts to identify undercolor. The color ID plate on the radiator support is missing. Is there any other method (VIN?) to identify the original color? Norther NJ Larry
