  1. Zed. The test I did in the start position was to the green white. It gets power in the start position. That is the way it’s supposed to be ? Right? I also have one bw that is hot in the run position and one bw with nothing. So they are all as should be?? Right? any chance on this battery not big enough? But it cranks engine.
  2. Ok dw. I have watched this video numerous times. First question will his readings be different or same with points open and closed ? second will his readings be different with key in run position? when I hooked my tester to green white then tried connecting other side of tester to both black whites neither gave a complete continuity. could that be due to car in run position? Could it be due to points? Of is that normal. When I did his second method to find hot wire with voltage that worked fine. Is that all normal ??
  3. Yes. Dwk That’s what I thought. Just to clarify. Key has 2 positions ?? Run and start. run is when it is clicked on and turns the power on in the car and start is the springy position. To actually start the car? When my wires where tested they were like this, the green went on when I turned the car to start in the spring position and one black and white was hot when the car was in the run position and one black-white no power. The only thing I can’t figure out that there was no complete circuit. When one of my test wires. was on the green and white and one of my tester wires was on either one of the black and white neither one of them completed a complete circuit, but I’m not sure if the car was in the run position if it was in the run position, does it not make a complete circuit with my tester?
  4. 240dkw. Thanks for the info. I think that is where the problem is. On all my Attempts I had a wire from the resistor to the coil. I think that may have been stopping the sparking. Zedhead. Still hoping you can do a basic diagram of the green wt and 2 bw wires. 🙏🙏 if may make my life easier and solve this silly problem.
  5. yes captain.. checked that.. points open and close on turning.. also was checking for spark before the distributor by holding plug wire out of middle of coil to engine block.. no spark... thats why i think its at the coil.. i will try all grounds tomorrow. yarb..car is not in my garage.. at a pals. i will check all grounds.. but i tried 3 dizzys.. so one must have been ground ok.. maybe main ground or coil ground... this is taking more time then i thought,,,, still looking for confirmation or wiring though.. any thoughts on wires to and from resistor?
  6. YES 240DWK, points open and close.. i tried 3 dizzys all points gapped correct.. i have once again attached a few diagrams trying to figure out proper wire connections.. i am hoping im just mixing up the connections... the red one was posted in this thread,, and shows greenwht to resistor then to coil + yes Capeeetain - i know the greenwt will not need to be connected if hot wired... i was first attempting to do it the right way with out wires running across engine... i will try the hot wire method to see what happens... it if that works what does that mean? one of the wires is dead along the way somewhere/in the harness?? the main reason i think wires were always wrong is that i always had a wire going from resistor to coil + is that correct or wrong??? **USING A PETRONIX FLAME THROWER COIL ** the fsm is totally different.. can someone explain these two diagrams... i just need the proper connections...
  7. Hi captain. I will try that jumper test. My main question is do you not think the green white needs to be connected?? And why in the fsm it shows the two wires going go the resistor are a green wt and a black wt from harness and the only black wt going to positive on coil also comes from harness. ??
  8. Ohh photo of starter. If you can zoom up on it.
  9. Hi. I don’t have a photo of the starter. But I know it’s pos from battery to starter motor and neg from battery to ground on engine block. How does the starter fit into this ? And it’s the “ stack” of wires on resistor totally wrong??? also no photo of ground at firewall.
  10. any ideas?? i think the black wt i have going to resistor with the green/wt should just go straight to the + on coil,, is that correct???
  11. After another attempt to get spark it has not worked. I have clearly followed instructions on how to wire the coil and still no spark. ( I tested for spark by holding the center plug wire coming from coil to engine block ) Here is how the coil was wired. 1. Green and white to one end of resistor ( this wire did get power on start position when tested ) 2. Black and white that got power in on position to other end of resistor . 3. Black and white that got no power to resistor with green white. 4. Wire from resistor with green/wht and black white to Coil + This should have worked as all diagrams show this set up. Once again am I missing something here?? The only other note I can mention is I saw the video on how to wire the coil and the green/wht and one of the black/wht should create a complete circuit - to figure out which black/wht go where - which I did not get. The video also showed another way to fugure that out which was to find the one with voltage. That’s how I figured out which black/wht went where.. still no spark. I assume any car battery should work as I don’t have a spec battery. I have battery from another type of car but it is cranking the starter motor, so I assume that would still make spark… I tried looking under the tach but you cant see anything under there.. any other ideas?? i even tried bypassing resistor to test - still nothing... something is wrong in the yellow circle area.. as only green.wt goes to resistor.. i have now followed those instructions and possibly wrong..please clairify the correct wiring..
  12. Yes. Thanks guys. I know I don’t have all the answers and have been doing a hit and miss attempt to get her going. I don’t know the history of the car or why it sat for 14 years. Probably because some hack mechanic tried to hook it up his way and snipped a few needed wires. I will try tomorrow with the proper wire diagram and see what happens. Fingers crossed.
  13. Of course Yarb. I’m a hack but not that dumb. I do have power. Starter motor is cranking. Just no bloody spark. Any idea on green white tach wire? Do those spark plug testers work. ??
  14. ok. i am no electrical genius, when i tested the coil i put a volt meter on end of coil - center of it where wire goes to dizzy and tested volts.. i assumed it should have voltage, which it did.. i am just looking for some clarification if the car will start/get spark, if the green/white tach wire is not connected to the ballast resistor.. ?? what are the effects when tach wire not connected? i have read the car wont start.. is that true?? zed, when i say no spark i mean at the plugs in the engine, have tested them with a spark plug tester and held plug near metal when trying and have never seen spark,,, could it be 3 bad dizzys or a green/white wire not connected???
  15. hey Zed, I have tested for voltage coming out of the coil where it goes to dizzzy.. power is coming out of it.. it also has power with the key on position... but no spark. not getting spark as i have spark plug test light hooked to engine to show when spark.. no spark.. also have tried 3 dizzys/// they all were cleaned and looked good.. i have read a few things of green white wire and the tach,, and if tach aint hooked up the car wont get spark.. true>???
  16. OK, good idea. i will test those two wires next... i am sure i am not getting spark as the green/white needs to be going to the ballast.. just need to figure out which black and black/whites i need to to use the ballast and to the coil.. but the posted video explains that clearly..
  17. Ohhh so in most cases the green white just goes to the ballast??? Then just black from ballast to coil?? Or should I do a Y like in the diagram of green white bench off one to coil and one to ballast can someone show me how it looks when it’s actually wired? I looked hard but could not find that. can i do it like this???
  18. Ok. Great diagram. I have attached A photo with arrow to green white wire that was snipped. Does that look like are in comes from? I will also attach close up of how coil is wired. Please tell me it’s totally wrong. !!
  19. Car ran 10 + years ago. Not sure why it sat. Probably cuz they couldn’t get it to start. Put in a new coil new battety new plugs tried 3 distributors. No spark. I’m assuming the coil is wired wrong. Is it possibly the alternator ? Does bad alternator stop the spark. ??
  20. Here is photo of snipped green white by coil
  21. does green white wire need to be attached to ballast? Ok. Tried 3 distributors. No spark. Coil is brand new. All dizzy looked ok. What are the two wires coming out from under dizzy group?? Green and black white Is it something to do with that??
  22. A green and a black yellow coming out from under dizzy area. They were unplugged on top of engine and I can not get car to start. Do these loose wires have anything to do with that?? Also two snipped wires coming from from fender by the coil. A green white and a black white. Anything important ? Please help. I can’t get spark from dizzy. New coil and power to coil.
  23. Ok. Tried 3 distributors. No spark. Coil is brand new. All dizzy looked ok. What are the two wires coming out from under dizzy group?? Green and black white Is it something to do with that??
  24. Ok. So to check points opening and closing in turn the engine at crank with socket and watch points ?
  25. Woops. Think i posted that by mistake.
