What Literature to display at a show
Tomohawk, There are several books out that have collected the majority of the print ads, and some of the dealer literature. Brookland books put one out, and updated it as the Z evolved, there are over 100 articles(a few are in both versions that I have) complied from magazines, Even Car and Driver put out On Datsun Z its own article compilation book. There are more, these are the ones that I have off the top of my head. Dealer stuf is always listed on ebay, if you want it and are willing to pay, or wait and watch, it is out there. I think SportZ, Zcar Magazine or the other (I can't remember its name) Z based magazine are among the most interesting magazines to own, as they are dedicated solely to the Z. Some of the club newsletters are the most entertaining and informative as they are written from the worn in drivers seat instead of a few minutes with a press kit and a turn behind the wheel. Don't discount the value of Nissan Sport, Art is right there with us, he has one, and reacts to and interacts with it-that makes his work substantially more valuable than the "I just had to drive it" author. 2008 Nationals
Tomohawk, I apologize that you felt the need to be smug in your reply, actually, the where and the when of the show doesn't affect my attendance, I'll be there and I won't waste my energy with feedback after the fact. My grumbling is more about ignoring the opportunity to get some serious public Z awareness and participation that a weekend show would bring that a weekday show denies. When my time comes, I'll just aim the show at being convenient to the largest number of people, cordially invite everyone, and actually make some new Z converts by allowing them access to what is effectively a closed event. The oddest Z car conversion I've ever seen- the Spartan.
In the late 70s through early 90s there were a healthy number of body kits made to look like the the early touring cars. This was made by a builder who modified an existing kit and hoped to sell 500 cars, My memory is that fewer than 40 were actually made. I haven't found the ad yet, but I know I have it. Will

Another Low-Mileage Series 1 on Ebay
What I notice...Beautiful car with The steeringwheel looks infinitely more worn than any other part, dash cover, Painted spare hold down, aftermarket antenna, Newer ac installation with control on the Pass side of the console-but an old condenser, black taillight finishers, under the hood several things are missing, no pictures of the rust prone areas or the rear trim areas/hatch. 160k on the car, and given the condition of the steeringwheel, I doubt the door panels are original-probably replaced in the "frame on restore". Still, if the underside looks as good as the top, there are just a few things to source, correct and detail to have a very nice car. Will

The oddest Z car conversion I've ever seen- the Spartan.
I have an ad for that body kit somewhere...probably in an old Kitcar magazine, and it has a 3 speed auto, the late '83 ZXs had a lock up torque converter that some called a 4speed auto. I'll find the ad... Will

Exhaust manifold finish
Bob, I think you are right about the lack of standardization and that is one of the problems... but not for this thread. I would have taken the points for the powder coated manifold, and left yours for the cast iron look. Will

Exhaust manifold finish
My thought is the ZCCA rules in the stock class are after fit and finish as it would have been right out of the factory, so the color of new cast iron would be correct-as long as it looked cast and not applied. I am using Eastwoods stainless paint http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=399&itemType=PRODUCT even though I won't be in the stock class. Will

1970 240Z Cargo Strap Rod Question
I believe that is an aftermarket piece as I don't find a part number or illustration for it in my USA/Canada or Japanese parts books. As I do not have the earliest parts books, and I have noticed that part numbers have disappeared through time(in different versions of the books) I am not 100% sure, but I suspect someone with earlier books might well be able to verify. How to properly adjust hatch height?
Arne, I ain't touching that one, and we have gotta get a wink smile for you! I was going to mention his affinity for pinstriping, but didn't want to scare anyone. In looking at the manuals, the latch on the hatch is also position adjustable. The instructions are basic illustrations of the attachment points with arrows indicating directional adjustment . For some reason, I can't attach a photo to this post. Both hinges are position adjustable on the body, and both latch pieces(on the body and on the hatch) are position adjustable, and the stops on the sides of the hatch opening are position adjustable. How to properly adjust hatch height?
You have two places to adjust, so you need to determine if it is high everywhere, on one side, front to back, or some combination of the last two. 1) The hinges are one area of taking up or providing some adjustment, with them you can accomplish side to side leveling or leveling at the top. 2) The catch on the body of the car also has the ability to be adjusted up or down. I'll look through my manuals and see if I can find the factory instructions, but I believe you have an expert at this sort of thing close by(across the river), I'll tap him on the shoulder and tell him about this thread...I hear he is a cheep date, so with proper liquid refreshments, he might well consider your cause to be the perfect excuse to cross the river in his Z or his roadster and take care of your high hatch issues. Low Mileage Series I on Ebay
Why is he not willing to send more pictures? What relevance does "been there done that" he has also "been there and done that" for having someone back out of a sale of the same car before. Anyone understanding the rarity of what he says he is selling should also understand the necessity of more and detailed info-especially in a $20K ebay sale. I suppose he could be using the travel costs to weed potential buyers by forcing them to go an view the car, but I think he is also loosing the people who know what to look for but don't have the time to do that trip to make a decision, and those who realize the cost of the travel doesn't include the cost of the time involved. It is a pretty car, it is a shame this guy doesn't know how to sell it. It is absolutley not an unmessed with car-the wood grain pointed out earlier, and those special JDM choke/throttle knobs, the crazy switch in the dash above the hazzard switch tells me that probably the AC control has been moved into the dash(modified to mount there? and the console still has the scars from the dealer mounted control pod), there seem to be retractable seatbelts, there are two runs of webbing up to the pillar mount where one should be, and let's not forget the the mounting of a driver-side door mirror on the passenger door. Still it wouldn't take much to put it back, but what can't we see that he won't provide pictures of... Will

240 taillite chrome strips
Carl, I am so careful and have such faith in my work, there is no risk to the original set in my making molds! I do practice sets to find issues before using the prime parts. The lights are for my low vin-when the time comes. I have every light assembly for that project in NOS. I am aiming to make all my molds from NOS parts when I can round them up-kinda hard to beat the quality of a properly done mold made from an nos part! I will watch for another NOS set for you though.
