2006 350Z Commercial
Just Imagine, Nissan paid someone well to come up with that commercial. Now, Imagine getting paid to be in that commercial. Oops, I forgot Nissan paid to have a copy the Audi TT bodywork oh, yes, They let someone else buy the rights to "Girl, you really got me now" It still brings up the 300 Barbie/GI Joe excitement. I am missing the message their actions are sending. The commercial is much more enjoyable with your eyes closed, or the sound off, but not both. Maybe we can come up with a more fitting soundtrack-that should have been a the G35 ad. A Z should have more enjoyment in spirited driving than sputtering a tune shows-the ear to ear grin should make making that noise a physical impossability-drivin g a Z is supposed to embody excitement, not reactions equivalent to listening to a song whilst warming the loo seat, and thinking about going for a drive when you get through. I got more excitement from the guy mumbling bad to the bone in "The Night Before" in a stolen Mustang. Needless to say, today has sucked.

Hello
Jeramy, Quarter mile times as published in "DatsunZ Fairlady to 280Z" by Brian Long. In stock form: '70 240Z 17.1sec '73 240z 17.7 '73 240Z 18.6 (bodanker carbs) '74 260z 17.9 '74 260 2+2 19.2 240ZX Remind me how you even got close to answering the question Jeramy asked-you didn't even address your answer to him! Griping about someone else not answering a question still does not answer a question! You are more guilty of what you accused TomoHawk of than he is! Will

2006 240Z >>?????
Ben, It says this. The S30 started it,the S130 looked sort of like an S30, and then Nissan goofed-they went too far from the S30 design(just like the later mustangs), and it took this long to recognize the folly of their ways! Lineage always starts with the first version. Ford is saying we had to start somewhere(Not to imply that that some of the later Mustang bodystyles weren't screw-ups!The Mustang 2 comes to mind...) In looking at your post, what if they changed the "next" body style to fit the next previous model-that is to say, an s30esq version, followed by a 300Zesq version right on down the line. Everybody with an opinion of what a Z is gets represented! Will PS, I don't see the similarity in the roofline-the profile does not share any 6 inches!

2006 240Z >>?????
I think a car can be unique and stil resemble something in its lineage. The new Mustang is very well done in terms that it absolutely will never be mistaken for an Audi. It will always instantly be recognized as a Ford Mustang. It is not a carbon copy, but it does strongly favor-maybe there are shortcomings elsewhere in the car, but a link to its origins is not one of them. A new Z car with similar exterior and interior cosmetic features would have been the way to capitalize on the history steeped ad campaign Nissan used to bring out the 350Z. Instead, they add another german look a like...albeit with impressive technology and specs. If they built the car as beautiful as it performed, No one would ever be inspired to describe a 350Z as a "toad", a "Frog" or an "Audi TT". It would stand alone-it doesn't-at least visually. Andrew, I would rather have a Nissan that looks like a Datsun than a Nissan that looks like an Audi. I would venture a guess that most 350Z owners in Texas are more likely to encounter an audi TT than a 240Z on the street and that is only going to get worse. A quick check of the TX DMV could confirm that. I don't think many vintage mustang owners are bothered by Ford admitting they had a great visual design, and modeling the new Mustang to have ques from it. Do you look anything like your parrents-most childeren do resemble their parrents-that is what linking with lineage is about, fresh faces with reminders of older ones. My son has features that are from Me, some that are from my wife, some that are pertty well universal to all people, and some that are evidently unique to him-I hope your childeren look more like you than your mailcarier, but I hope you don't look at them in disgust when you see parts of you in their faces! When I look at a 350Z the only thing that reminds me of a 240Z is a copy of SportZ Magazine with a 240Z on the front laying in the seat! If they had applied the same technology, and worked with a few undeniable internal and external 240Z cues, they could have sold me a new car as great as a 350z. Will

All the way up through a 280ZX the dash is not necessary for the car to run. Will

Any interest in repo 70-71 center consoles?
That looks pretty close-you wouldn't happen to be one of the guys from Va coming to Savannah this weekend for some time at Roebling Road? The pictures helped, but there is nothing like having one infront of you...What will is cost? Will

dash repair
Make sure you take(and post) pictures! Will

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
All you need is a 240Z parts car to pull the pieces from! Will
-
dash repair
It won't, I have driven several that way, and one I never glued down, after three years, I moved it to another car, then glued it down. Will

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
I must appologize to Pennyman-seems that Jmortensen and I are trying to hijack a thread-Sorry! When I get the pictures, and the rest of my ducks in a row, I will start a new thread. WIll

Any interest in repo 70-71 center consoles?
I want to see pictures before pitting my name on the list. I would want it to look stock-or atleast allow all of the stock components to be put in. Will

dash repair
Placel the dash cover-just don't glue it to the dash for a couple of weeks! Will

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
I posted the very picture I am referenced, but now I can't find it either. Over the next couple of weeks, I will get a 280 strut and put it next to my 240 strut, remove the shocks, and show you what I am talking about, I recently traded a set of 280 struts for 240 struts with another member here, and I saw the differences at that time. I still have the 240 struts, and the springs are not worn out. Will

Fender Covers
I thought these would be great club merchandise! Will

dash repair
Yep-er! To quote a hair tonic commercial, "a little dab'll do you!" Just put adhesive where it is necessary, and only after letting the cover sit on the dash for several weeks in the sun. Heat and gravity will pull the cover to the dash, and you glue where they were not successful! Will

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
There are pictures in the archives here comparing both struts side by side, while you said the strust are the same length, what I said was the 240 has shorter front shocks. If you take a 240Z front strut apart, and hold the shock beside its mounting lpocation, you will find the shock is not in a position to allow full travel-that is a shortcoming with the geometry of a 240z front suspension. Many people section the strut(shorten it) about 2", and use MR2 of VW Rabbit shocks-that allows the front suspension to have greater travel. Will

dash repair
TomoHawk-try a Joann store-they cary the headliner material I spoke of in a multitude of colors-including black-at about $2.50 a yard. I would glue it to the dash cover with a permanent glue, and remove the cover, not the fabric, when the gages need to be addressed. Will

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
What you have not taken into consideration is that the shock in a 240Z is a) shorter than that in a 280Z, and not mounted within the strut to maximize its available rebound, both of which lower its travel. It is true that the sway bars are easy to mount it is also true that the 240Z came from Datsun with only one, while the 280Z, and a few 260Zs came with 2. Don't forget 50 lbs added at the far ends of the 280Z also adds a good bit to its turning moment of inertia, and then there is all of the other added mass-no wonder the COG moved up and the performance went down! I have owned bone stock versions of both 240Zs and 280Zs, and when tuned equally, the 240Z leaves the 280Z every time, but the 280Z starts every time, runs exactly the same every time, and is less persnickety when the weather changes-not that the 240 is horrendous by any means. regardless of the state of tune, weaving through traffic, cones, or a dotted line on a deserted highway is much more fun in a 240! The 240Z is simply more responsive-just shy of a street legal go-cart. Will

Rust in fender
lots of dirt, some rust and probably a hole-look up into the wheel well and check the firewall and battery area-from the engine compartment as well. Will
-
Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
The front suspension has more travel in a 280Z. Sway bars were standard on both ends in a 280Z. Will
-
Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
Mass and geomerty-240 had lower mass, 280 had better geometry! Will

Headlight Scoops
They are interchangeable. I have had cars with one of each-you could only tell by tapping, sanding, or examining damage. Will

dash repair
The new ones are much closer, but the grain is not a prerfect match-the finish is more "matte" in texture though. If you don't want to use an available full cover, try black headliner material-it is flocked on one side, grained on the other, and conforms to odd surfaces with heat. Will
