l26 in 240k
sblake is spot on; having fitted an L28T block to my 240K, (now I can't recall whether it was forward/rear of xmember) the sump/oil pickup/dipstick all needed re-fitting. I think I've posted about this before but it's not that easy; the oil gallery for the pickup on the L28T block is located further rear/forward than the 240K block, therefore mod's to the p/up arm were necessary and had to fit nicely, deep inside the new 240K sump housing. This required some measuring & fabrication. Then the dipstick hole through the block needs to be drilled in the correct location; bear in mind the sleave for the dipstick cannot be knocked down too far into the block as this will stop oil flow! Run the car like that and it's bye bye. There is a guy on ozdat & who frequents this forum from time - time, I think Lurch is his alias, well his friend has either kept or sold this block, not sure. Now if you're sump off an L26/L28 is configured like a 240K, no probs at all, straight fit. But this was an issue for me anyway...cheers

Couple of items for sale
Fellas, Couple of little items I found yesterday, may as well sell these, looks like the Datsun days are over... 1 x coupe passenger seat black reclining lever knob, not damaged at all. It is free if you collect, if postage req'd, let's call it $5.00. 1 x 240K sedan/coupe tow bar assembly, inc tow frame, tongue, ball, nuts & bolts, VG cond. $50. If anyone interested I also have the sedan lower sill mouldings L&R, free to good home, again I'd have to advise if postage req'd, but I doubt anyone would want it. Cheers ps; good luck with the flares guys, hope to see a few GTR's rolling out soon! Just an add in, my phone no 0433 761 432. James

My misfortune...
Bloody hell Michael, Sorry to see that happen mate, pretty bad. Try this number, Nispares in Melbourne, VIC, +613 9720 6414. I was going to purchase a RHS rear quarter panel, ex NOS from them a couple of years ago; they had one only, not sure about now though, fingers crossed. I think it was selling for a couple hundred $ back then, that'll fix the whole thing. The panel extended from rear light panel-rear window/door frame. Hope this helps... James

240K GTR Flares
I got the first cast made from Challenge Fibreglass from original C110GTR moulds, this is how he has obtained replica's (albeit indentical anyway!) Item to note; even if they do fit a sedan, if you don't want the wheels to get lost in the flares, the sedan rear wheel arch will need to be tubbed, just like the coupe`! And THAT is a nice job!!! Re-fabricating the rear wheel arch, door locking mechanism, etc. I took a long, hard look at this one and said, thanks very much, but...". Too much mucking around re engineers, etc, however, if the funds are there, by all means give it a shot. Cheers, James ps; pretty much all my Datsun stuff is sold now, except a mint 240K steering wheel, and I just found the passenger seat handle that enable forward tilting (the one that is closest to the centre console) Driving a 1970 Valiant VF 770 sedan with a trick 318 V8 nowadays, doesn't handle as well as the K, but she knows how to take off!

skyline 240k 1977 not for sele!
Yeah nice ride, same colour as Kyteler & one of mine years ago. The 280ZX series 1 rims look OK, try the series 2, I found they look much tougher and better on a C110, with the slight dish and 'chrome' lip . Anyway looks great, keep it!!!

FS: '74 240K coupe (Vic).
Last statement from me on this, I have been around and owned these cars for the 15 years. I've owned 7, 5 coupes & 2 sedans all repaired/restored from nothing more than rolling (sometimes not even rolling) shells. My affinity and passion for these cars is unquestionable, and I do not seek out to make a profit from it. Unfortunately it may seem that way with the cars I've sold over the last few years, but trust me, I had no choice. I have a young family, mortgage, the usual headaches, and I've sold off my favourites and bought cheaper forms of transport ie my Valiant, even this had to go. The last 240K coupe recently sold was just about ready to spray, then just when you think you're up on your feet again, it's gotta go. I'm sure heaps of guys have sacrificed cars they've cherished, unfortunately I'm one of them. Maybe I'm upset your mate wasn't happy & sold the car, it wasn't perfect but it req'd a little TLC to get it just right. I never, ever look to ripping people off, just put out there a fair price for what it is.... Talking about fair price, I bought my Valiant for $1200. Repairs were minimal for RWC & Reg, 225 slant 6 blew on me within a week. I ended up buying a 318 V8 for it w/transmission. Rebuilt the bottom end, new hydraulic lifters, new 650 Holley DP, new radiator, welch plugs, etc etc remove and re-fit V8 K frame & torsion bars & fitted V8 floor shift (rare for these models). The body was fantastic, as was the interior, old farm car I travelled 8 hr return trip for. I sold the car 3 months later for $1200.00, when I look what these cars sell for with those specs it is frustrating! But, when you need the $$$, you can't be a beggar. Guess I've been stupid, but hey, money talks...Believe it or not I'm always looking to get my hands on other K, just to have one not matter how long time permits. And yeah, I'm always up for a beer...cheers :classic:

Well all I can say to Lurch and his mate Mobsta is if you were looking for a $2500 30 yr old car with unlimited spares that are as rare as rocking horse #%$ and expect it a Ferrari, GOOD LUCK! Lurch considering you seemed to know so much about mechanics I would have thought somone such as yourself could have assisted Jesse in performing some of the repairs req'd at the time of purchase. Obviously not! After all, you thoroughly inspected the car did you not?? You drove it, said it went fast & was strong as well?! Hmm, this sounds like an X File doesn't it? As for your opinion you don't think the car was worth what it was/is, well each is entitled to their own. What do you value your Z at mate? Let's have a laugh...actually no, it's YOUR opinion. Good luck to the fellow who bought the K, he would be laughing right now and seeing he is mechanically oriented, shouldn't have any issues whatsoever with this car, unless he too is looking for a Ferrari! I hope he joins these forums! When you buy an old car you have to appreciate problems will arise, and be prepared to spend when/where req'd; this is why we call people enthusiasts!! In this case it's demonstrated one doesn't have the temperament to deal with these issues, therefore he's gone and bought a relatively newer model. Mind you, hopefully problems don't arise with this imported model, will he be prepared to spend $$$ when the turbo blows or he fries the motor??? Not cheap is it??? :surprised All cars can be great, how much time, effort, money & luck are BIG factors. Let me guess, he's got a huge milo tin hanging out the back??!! All the best to the new owner, and ah, a nice little analogy like the swimming pool warning signs say "check the depth before entering" ie can you handle what you're about to get into??? Indeed there are some silly people out there, make an error of judgement and blame it on someone else. Let's put a minimum $ value on the parts then; flares $150 L28 $400 5 spd box $250 turbo flywheel $ 50 panels $100 console $ 20 pedal box $ 30 elec dizzy x 2 $ 100 calipers $ 20 master cylinder $ 30 TOTAL $1150.00 minimum!! no way known you can get A1 parts for this price and that's only half the spares. then total the cars worth... L24 E high comp engine $500 240Z twin carbs/manifold $ 500 elec dizzy $ 50 240K extractors, not Z they won't fit $100 280ZX series 2 rims $200 turbo rocker cover $ 50 new master cyl $ 50 TOTAL $1450.00 Grand total $2600.00 at an absolute, impossible minimum price. Never mind the condition of the chrome work, panels, interior, etc etc etc. Make some calls, see what you come up with, I dare you... Once again, sorry for the rant, but what absolute @%#$&ers! Had enough of these two twits. James

Very hesitant sale;Datsun 240K coupe
All, It is yet again with sad regret that I have to sell another 240K coupe Unfortunately this time it is a must, don't we all wish we could be millionaires. Firstly, the 240K coupe is completely original, I have rust proofed/treated all surface rust and coated on a thin layer of filler to finish which is sanded back and primed, the areas requiring further attention is around the rear screen (couple of small holes) and the bonnet underside front left corner. The body is extremely straight, not one dent. It has a Nissan dealer fitted sunroof, the interior is very good but one hole in carpet (drivers footwell). No holes in the floorpan, very strong. The console, dash, accesories are all factory items even the original radio, cassette player, nothing has been cut, drilled, etc. Seats are immaculate, even the standard rear parcel shelf fabric is in excellent condition. Engine and gearbox; all matching no's, I've fitted an elec distributor, that's all. I done a compression test last week, all cylinders firing 160~ psi, according to factory manual that's 20psi over standard, Given the car was a one owner, I'd suggest the engine has been re-conditioned, perhaps even slightly over-bored. The trans is fine, kicks down great, very good. Carb runs very good, radiator fine, adjustment done on valve clearances, etc. I have a '79 Skyline 5 speed (same as the K), plus manual pedal and shifter to go with the car. All tyres have recently been purchased (although 2nd hand) and have 90% tread on chrome steel mag style wheels. Also comes with 4 x Cheviot mags, 4 x Supra alloys w/tyres, and original fitment standard Nissan steel wheels with circa 1970's 'aquajet' tyres. Also have spare rear window rubber as previously discussed in other thread. White paint is 2 pak in excllent, shiny condition... couple of cans to touch up repaired areas would be all that's needed for basic finishing...steel mouldings in excellent condition except for front and rear (small dents). There is a clunk coming from the rear upon take off, haven't had a hard look but it's not the diff, prob a uni joint; these cars like uni's. I'm sorry guys, I know I promised not to sell it, but please one of you K guys buy it. I'm selling it and everything for $1800.00ono, it's more than what I bought it for, and it will only need brakes, front screen, some rubber bushes, and you have a roadworthy car that will be 100% original. I am very sad to sell and at the end of the day $$$ rules the world....well to some extent anyway Very urgent sale, any interest call me on 0433 761 432, I'm in Narre Warren South (Melb Sth East) James

auto capacity question
All L6 auto's apart from later Skyline R30's w/4spd auto are identical ie 3N71B, and yes, unless cpmpletely drained inc torque converter, then you'll only need about 2.5-3.0 litres. Also as suggested, check with engine running. Bear in mind if you drain torque converter as well, upon re-filling and before driving, just keep your foot on the brake, run through each gear ie 1, 2, 3, N, R and give the car some revs. Not too much or you'll end up through the garage wall ! GTX coupe tail lights and rear panel for sale
Fellas, bad news, but even BETTER news! I believe it's the birth of a new trade secret (not for long now!!), so listen in closely fellow K'sters.... The car with the seals has been removed but never fear I have improvised, and let me tell you, I'm a bloody legend :cheeky: I have just produced another so called "classic car fix" phrase. There is another model car with exactly the same rubber seal as the 240K coupe, well apart from length it is the same stuff, just trim the top off the seal and slide in as per usual. I've removed 4 sets from Mitsubishi Scorpions (you know, the mid 80's model 2 door Sigma). Went home, trimmed an inch off the top, sprayed some lube in the grooves, nice and clean, then slid her in! There is also some Scorpions with the same solid unit seal like I'd seen previously. I've taken a couple of these and I imagine this would also work on the K's, haven't tried it yet. It is a dead set, 100% replica if not the same, even sealing the window is excellent. As these cars are only 20 yrs old (as opposed to 30+), the rubber (on the ones I removed) were excellent, no rips, cracks, or hardness. I'm very happy with the authentic look of it, I wouldn't have thought another car had such a similar design. Aah, it was destiny! So go away to the wrecking yards boys and girls, hunt some down and remove carefully (be sure to bring some oil type spray). I've got mine to do me another 20 years but I'll hunt some more down just to be sure. Cheers fellas... :bandit:

anyone ever cleaned out their fuel tank?
Also run some air pressure through the fuel line from tank to engine bay, then push some fuel through as well. I learnt the hard way, even swapped engines because of it!!! :stupid:

C110 Indicator lense
Having just browsed the 240K forums over the last hour or so and catching up on any topics I may have during my time away, I noticed one of the new member (Mobsta aka Jesse) having a little rant on how the car I sold him was 'dodgy' and a 'death trap'. Before I go any further let me say that I won't use this forum as a slanging match, however since I sold him the car I heard from him once regarding an apparent issue with registration (even though I sold the car unregistered). I will however just shed light on the obvious, particularly in relation to when people buy cars, and for young guys out there not understanding a whole lot about them. In my defence I will run through a couple of points; The car was sold as unregistered, with the following faults; 1. Exhaust, required new or welding to attach. 2. Steel fuel line from tank to engine bay blocked; as a TEMPORARY measure, I ran a length of fuel hose direct from the tank to engine bay, this was secured to the underside of the body, never intended or recommended for permanent use. 3. Rust in bonnet; not severe at all, in fact the original gold paint was visible on this side as it was not sprayed. If this was an issue or such a severe hazard, anyone in their right mind would tend to this. 4. Auto trans reverse inhibitor switch; not connected. Based on the above I decided not to sell the car with a RWC, even as insignificant in terms of $$ as I regarded it. ALL these points were noted upon sale/inspection and duly acknowledged by the buyer. With regards to the good points of the car, where should I start; 1. L24E engine shaved .030" & 240K auto trans, 240K extractors (extremely rare for those who know), twin SU carbs in EXC cond, original condition, little rust, 99% of all mouldings in perfect condition, all accesories in perfect working order, no engine/radiator leaks, did not blow smoke/burn oil, excellent compression, VG handling, all suspension, ball joints, components, rubber boots, etc were very good, 280ZX series 2 alloys, SAAS steering wheel. 2. ALL of these items listed here were in VGC and VG working order. The car was sold with a spare L28 N42 engine with exc compression, 280ZX 5 speed in GC, manual pedal box, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, 280ZX turbo flywheel, spare 240K flywheel, clutch, pressure plates, spare struts, front and rear springs, brakes, twin piston calipers, brand new dual brake master cylinder, 2 electronic distributors, modules, standard carby, exhaust manifolds, inlet manifolds, C110 GTR flared gaurds, spare centre console VGC, l/r front guards, indicator lenses, front and rear bumpers, front light assemblies, rear light panel and lights, fuel pumps, fans, radiator, alternators, voltage regulators, window winders, 280ZX turbo oil pump, rocker covers, huge amount of spare gaskets, the list goes on....... Jesse, do you not recall the car when you bought it? Even your mate who is a moderator on Ozdat said the car went very, very well upon taking it for a test drive (you couldn't for some reason). Do you not recall having to bring a ute along in addition to filling the boot & back seat of the coupe with every single spare part you could imagine for these cars? You were very content with what you were getting at such a price $2500.00, and to think that I PM'd your mate on Ozdat not long ago regarding buying back some of those spares that took me 10 years to accumulate from you! I'm a fool for selling that car at such a price, not to mention the spares!! Count yourself lucky mate. Next time, before coming onto a website and slandering someone's name, I suggest you develop some form of experience regarding the topic at hand, in this case, automobiles, rather than simply read stuff off the net and claim to know what it is you're on about. As you said to me, you don't know anything about cars( I did not take advantage of this), you will pay to restore it ie L28, manual, etc, and you brought your mate along to test it, who was more than happy with the then current configuration (who wouldn't be!). I am not dodgy, nor did I sell you a death trap, and the only reason I make this message public for all members to see is to demonstrate just that. Replacment bonnet??? You're kidding, someone is trying to make a buck from you! When you've worked on cars for 15 years, come back and tell me what I sold you that day for $2500.00 was dodgy! Based on the above, I rest my case. I apologise to all for being a little upset and disappointed at having read Mobsta's post. This is the only post I will note re the above, I will not enter into a debate with this user via the sites forums, nor do I intend to off line. I appreciate the value and information this site provides for all Z & K owners, and I am sorry for this one off occurence. Regards, James

240K in the UK
Hey, thats like my old car, except I didn't have a 240K 'GT' ! On the topic of 240K prices, I had an interesting chat to a guy last week and he know's of people buying these cars, slightly restoring them to original condition and shipping them off from Oz to the Middle East from between $15,000 - $25,000 a pop!!! He reckons mine would fetch $15K easy, in current condition. Apparently they, like us enthusiasts, regard these cars very highly and will pay top dollar (may be not top $ for some of the oil sheiks ). The 240K's/Skylines C110 are considered cars of prestige and high class for these fellas, I guess in a way it's heartening to know that others also appreciate a fine, but far too often under-rated car. Adding fuel to the fire I had 4 emails/different guys from Kuwait wanting to buy my coupe I advertised last year, one as recently as last Thursday! I definitely will not be selling this time though, way too rare nowadays... James

GTX coupe tail lights and rear panel for sale
Bruce, was it you who you bought the panel & lights from Mario? I pestered him all week for that, anyway congrats if you did buy them. Whereabouts are you in Melb? I'm near Cranbourne... By the way fellas, was at the wreckers yesterday and found a whole heap of rear window rubber seals for the coupes (the ones that seal front/rear window), let's just say enough for about, oh 15 PAIRS :knockedou Found them in a stripped out coupe, nothing left but these things in the boot. These items are complete units as well ie not the slide in type rubber, with these the rubber seal and mould is a solid unit, they're in A1 condition. These are probably aftermarket items but hey, they're as good as gold. I'll be going back tomorrow to get them all. Should have enough stock on hand to last a while I'd say... :cheeky: I'm also removing clutch master cylinder and pedal/spring, etc, will see whether it's a straight bolt into the K; I dare say it'll be mighty close. James

240K's X 3 plus Prince Gloria at outer Sydney Wreckers
You're right there, clutches & flywheels are pretty identical, although on my old K I fitted a lighter flywheel off a 280ZX turbo, and the engine did wind up nice and quickly. :cheeky:

240K's X 3 plus Prince Gloria at outer Sydney Wreckers
Lachlan, Boot trim from the sedan will not fit the coupe, can't recall whether it's wider or shorter, but won't fit anyways... Mate your GTR replica is looking awesome, well done! I should be up in QLD around September, maybe I can check out the beast in person. By the way, unless you're looking for complete originality with the T bar shifter, try a C210 shifter, nicer looking black handle and they're decorated with chrome and chrome push button, not a black button like the K's. Not 100% sure on mounting though, been a while... Lastly, this is a desperate call to my fellow 240K people, does any one have or know of 240K manual gearboxes/accessories not req'd, for sale etc?? I can source flywheels and clutches off various 6 cyl models but 240K items are scarce to state the obvious (boy should I know, what an idiot I was for parting with ALL of my spares last year!!!)

240K on ozdat
Hey guys yes it's me, I had the coupe on Ozdat for sale. Well it's not for sale anymore, I realised I had a rare piece on my hands & the Datto blood rose to the surface and said "don't sell". I've sold the Valiant last week to provide some funds for the K restoration (no that a lot is needed) but items for registration ie windscreen, brakes, etc need completing. I've also lined up an RB30 & 5spd unit complete w/loom for a very good price that is looking likely to be fitted. James

240K auto to manual conversion
Good question! I've never encountered that problem, but I'd think the whole mount/rubber unit would need replacing. It's a tricky looking thing that, I'll check the factory manual tonight and see what I can find. James
-
Radiator repair
Lachlan, I used a 3 core radiator in my 240K last year, this was sourced from an R30 Skyline automatic. I bypassed the trans oil cooler tank though and fitted a 91 Magna trans oil cooler. To fit the R30 radiator you'll have grind/cut some off the mounting frame away so that it will fit into the radiator support panel, then drill a couple of holes in line with the K's mount holes. For me this worked a treat, spent $50~ on a good radiator. James
-
240K auto to manual conversion
Cuong, Coupe & sedan tailshafts for 240K's are the same length, whether it's 4/5 speed or auto doesn't make a difference; all tailshafts for this model are the same length and are straight swaps. James

I'm back!
Will have to post photo's soon, depends on access to a digicam! Not my car in the avatar, however I think I have my attempted replica in the photo gallery, I got as far a tubbing the rear arches, flare fitment, re-spraying, but didn't have original tail lights or grille. Not too sure what I'll do with this new one, might just fit wheels, lower it, exhaust, manual box. I'm looking after this one! James

I'm back!
G'day fellas, Been a while seen I last posted but I have some greta news, well for me anyway! :lick: Buying another 240K coupe tonight, 1974 model, white (and re-sprayed in 2 pak last year), absolutely 100% straight it's amazing, 100% original inc motor, interior immaculate. The car is automatic and two spots of surface rust along the rear screen. Now the price; $400!!! How did this happen you might ask? Well long before I sold every imaginable 240K part I had, along with my coupe, I saw it not far from home in front of someone's house. I spoke to the owner, it's his Mum's car and he used it every now and then for work. Anyway I left my number and hadn't heard from him until last week. He asked me to make an offer and being short of cash, with the offer of $350 I made I was expecting him to laugh! He say's 'add another $50, make it $400 square and it's your's'. Well tonight is the night, I'm back in business with the old K. James
