http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4916.jpg Last weekend was beautiful and sunny in the Bay Area, perfect for a quick drive in Sora, our 1967 Datsun 2000 roadster. I joined Geoff in his 1963 Lotus Elan and Glenn Chiou in his Honda Civic Type-R (FL5). http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4906.jpg We met in downtown Saratoga and admired Geoff’s recently acquired 1963 Lotus Elan S1. It’s sporting 26R-spec wider bodywork and interior pieces. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4968.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4856.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4844.jpg The hardtop is the most sharp-looking I’ve seen on a 60’s roadster (this is not a coupe!) and those are real Knock-on wheels. Dyno tuned at Z Car Garage. We’ll take a deep-dive into this English gem in a full report coming to zcarblog. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4901.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4853.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4923.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/152340015382449247.jpg We headed up HWY9 to the Vista Point where the skidpad hosted some great hardware as usual, including these two Porsche (993) 911 Turbos. The Arena Red car had 195k miles and the Polar Silver car sported Advan GT wheels and Andial-built GT2-spec engine. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4890.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4898.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4892.jpg Vanity plate award goes to this BMW 1M: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4924.jpg Geoff was happy to see a fellow 7-owner. There was an usual (and welcome) number of Pre-War “Ragtime Racer” cars out and about! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/d6v42-e1749689734267.jpeghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4952-e1749689768840.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4972.jpg Enjoy the sights and sound of our 60’s sports cars in this video: At home, Geoff kindly indulged my obligatory driveway photos. My family also witnessed a car that’s actually smaller than the Datsun Roadster! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/IMG_4975.jpg Sora performed admirably, making many people smile this weekend. 4. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/001A0D18-0D64-4158-BC26-8D17A97DAE3A.jpg We’ve been working on a spare wheel and tire solution for clients running our Z Car Garage Big Brakes (or any larger than stock brake kit) on their 1970-78 S30 Z cars. Since the factory 14″ spare wheel will not clear big-brakes, we are proud to offer a 15″ Panasport wheel and tire combo that will fit perfectly in the spare tire well. In addition to great looks this setup is also significantly lighter than the factory spare. This is one of those small things we love to offer that make your Z enjoyable on long journeys. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IMG_5807.jpg The 15″ Panasport wheel runs a 155/80/15 tire and first perfectly in the factory spare well area. The Historic B-Sedan group had a solid turnout—about the same size and pace as the Vintage B-Sedan/Miata Group 3. Thanks to Rob’s fantastic coaching and support, I was able to set a personal best lap time on Sunday morning and held my spot in the top half of the group. I had a blast trading positions on track with Dave Stone, Glen Chiou, Kelvin Tse, and Jeff Rothman. Huge thanks to the ZCG team for their top-notch car support and coaching throughout the weekend. This is an organization dedicated to the racing exhibitions of 1966–1979 Historic SCCA B-Sedan, C-Sedan, Trans-Am Under-2-Liter, and Two-Five Challenge race cars: GLENN: Since 2018, we have partnered with premier racing organizations such as the Velocity Invitational, CSRG, SVRA, and others to present thrilling run groups that celebrate these iconic machines. Our mission is rooted in honoring the history, camaraderie, and spirit of safe, respectful racing—with a healthy dose of serious fun. The David Love Vintage Races were a perfect showcase of that mission. With around twenty historic sedans in attendance—including Alfa, BMW, Datsun, Mini, and more—we delivered an exhilarating exhibition of vintage racing. Partnering with CSRG and Sonoma Raceway made for a fantastic weekend shared with friends and family. While the David Love Vintage Races was HBC’s only event for 2025, we have big plans for 2026! This car features our Z Car Garage CV Axles and dyno tuning: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/IMG_1904-1024x768.jpeg It’s worth noting that not unlike privateers of the period, Glenn builds his race cars, maintains and manages racing efforts himself. Not an easy task so we applaud his work ethic. Glenn builds some beautiful Datsuns and we thank him for organizing the Historic B&C Sedan group to keep the spirit of Trans Am racing alive. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/DSC02231.jpg Rob Fuller recaps the event: ROB: Ross Lindell was in the Randy Pobst National Championship-winning Miata (1992), Lora in her Miata and myself my Miata for Vintage Spec Miata. For Datsuns there was the special HBC run group that was super fun. Kenny and Noah were cooking. Kenny, Noah and Tom Dockery all got their PBs. It felt really great to get the Miata back on the track again. Lora was passing people for the first time, that’s huge milestone. We had just gone through Ross’ car and he was super happy with the setup and dyno tune. The weather was absolutely perfect and the run groups filled with beautiful cars. Glenn was out there, Frank Z in his 510, Alfa boys Chet Taylor from SoCal. Wonderful weekend with good times had by all. The Corkscew Classic event at Laguna Seca is coming up next. Lora recalls a memorable moment: “One of the highlights was meeting a little boy who was celebrating his fourth birthday. All he wanted was to come to the racetrack and see a race car for his birthday. It was so heartwarming to share that moment with him, and he even asked for a picture with my race car and with me, the “race car driver”! It was such a surreal and adorable experience. I think my red Miata must remind children of the red car from the Disney movie Cars! That moment was so unexpected and enjoyable” Super cool to see our client Linda Williams’ 1972 Datsun 240Z OMS Pace Car Duplicate participating in the John Streets Memorial parade lap aside fellow Datsuns/Nissans. In addition to being a proud Nissan North America employee, he is an avid car enthusiast with a passion for Nissans and Datsuns, having owned a 240Z, 350Z and Hakosuka Skyline. Jonathan recently acquired this QM1 White R34 Skyline GT-R from our friend Sean at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, and came to Z Car Garage for upgrades and dyno tuning. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351756869_571155608528610_6805297484070822199_n.jpg JONATHAN: My history with Nissan and Z cars started before I was even born. My dad had purchased a 240Z in Ojai, California in 1978 while in the Navy and daily drove it until 1998. There are pics of me as an infant of me in it and when I was old enough to go to daycare, he would take me in the Z. Growing up around it, helping him work on it and wanting to ride in it as much as possible shaped my love for not only cars, but the Datsun/Nissan brand and especially the Z. When I got old enough to start thinking about my first car, my dream was to get the newly launched 350Z to go along with my dad’s 240Z. I was drawn to the Le Mans sunset orange launch color and fell even more in love with that color when I got to see it in person at my local grocery store. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_132696088_426127768436159_1139283343644033895_n.jpg As it so happened though, on my 15th birthday, my dad surprised me by gifting me the 240Z! I was in shock but so excited to work on it with him, restoring it to this level I had built up in my head for years. The project took 3 years and by the time I was a senior in high school, we had finished it… Painting it my favorite Le Mans sunset orange and building it out just as I had imagined as a young kid. It was totaled and was a huge loss for myself and my family. I knew I needed to find another special Nissan. Below you will see how this situation shaped how I got into the Skyline’s, specifically my Hako and now the R34 GT-R. However, between the ownerships of the Hako and the R34, my wife found this beautiful 2003 Z33 350Z in my favorite color, Le Mans Sunset. I had always wanted this car since I was 13 and it was the spitting image of (a newer version) of my old 240Z. A great bookend to a Z journey that lasted over 34 years. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_475171980_18481381894037469_6796212038058252544_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_383851406_336029832162958_1096898292016150724_n.jpg GT-R Dreams http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8777.jpg JONATHAN: My love for the R34 Skyline started I believe with the rest of my generation, 2 Fast 2 Furious. That scene where Brian drives through Miami to get to the race at the beginning will forever be reason for my Skyline love. I also remember watching old Hot Versions on YouTube with the MINES R34 GT-R going against the Amuse MK4 Supra. The sound from the exhaust and the feedback from the drivers made it clear that not only was it the winner in that episode, it was the winner of the JDM legends of its time. It was only natural to want one growing up, but as prices increased, it became clear that it would just be a dream. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_330640336_1364576187632531_7825474603062231957_n.jpg My journey really began on a vacation just after the Z accident, my wife and I were looking at the back of one of my JDM Legends t-shirts that had a Hakosuka Skyline on it. We looked at each other and said “Thats the car”. At that point, we had no idea where to even begin to look for a Hako but we both knew that was the direction we wanted to go. She knew I had always loved the Skylines, but the Hako (aside from the R34 GTR) always was a favorite. After a few months, Jonathan reached out to friend (Randy Jaffe) with a collection of Nissan’s and Datsuns including a 1971 Nissan Skyline that Z Car Garage had worked on! They discussed for a while, and one afternoon the Hako was headed to TN. Jonathan was excited for the opportunity to be the next caretaker of this beloved Skyline. He enjoyed the car for several months, driving it to shows, and really getting to know the chassis. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/A0663221-E3DF-4557-8BB5-DA672E27D537-3.jpg JONATHAN: Just when I was getting comfortable though, I received a call from the sales director at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, who I had built a good relationship with. He asked if I would be interested in selling my Hako to a big Skyline collector in Texas (the Hako returned to Z Car Garage, full report coming soon!). After talking it over and coming up with a good deal, I made the decision to sell the Hako and purchase a bone stock, 1-owner R34 GT-R from Top Rank’s inventory in Japan. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351716536_1965356540465877_4097935944533235490_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_352552391_623108886411257_2846414832913894330_n.jpg Top Rank brokered the deal and made the process so easy. I knew though that I would have to wait until June of 2024 before it could be imported due to the 25-year law but it was so worth the wait and I cannot express how grateful I am to have been in a position for such an opportunity to be realized. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_437545255_407071535419669_6982521441586894456_n.jpg Upgrades and Dyno Tuning at Z Car Garage http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8419.jpg ROB: In the fall of 2024, Jonathan acquired his dream car, an R34 Skyline GT-R, from Top Rank Importers. They were having some issues and shipped it to Z Car Garage for minor sorting and upgrades… JONATHAN: One of the very first videos I saved on YouTube was a video of Rob driving the green 240Z with the RB25 swap. I knew then that Z Car Garage was the best and I always wanted to have a build done by them! After the R34 GT-R arrived stateside, I knew it had to go directly to ZCG. There was no other place I wanted to go and now having the car for a few days, driving it and really enjoying it, I made the absolute best decision. (Below) Jonathan visited us in 2022 for the Tokyo Calling Rally. We had to snap a photo with the Go Green RB25DET-powered 240Z that inspired to build one of his own…and 1/24 scale the model I made http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9114-1-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9112-1-1024x768.jpeg At the shop we installed a Haltech Elite 2500 with plug ‘n’ play adapter, dual wide-band controller, one-step colder NGK plugs, ID 1300 injectors, Wallbro Hellcat Fuel pump, Z Car Garage Bosch relay kit and KOYO Race radiator: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN3745.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_9229-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_4093.jpg More upgrades included an HKS FMIC, Greddy BOV, PRP R35 coil packs, Wiring Specialities injector resistor bypass kit and a Haltech boost controller followed by dyno tuning. So you know what we did? We performed a Garrett turbo upgrade with supporting mods and tuned it again. It was wonderful and it rocks. We feel very honored: even though Jonathan lives in TN he trusts ZCG to work on his new R34. We shipped the car back with Masney and everyone’s happy. In the future I will look to add a V-spec rear carbon diffuser, maybe a Z-tune hood and perhaps maybe a little more power. Otherwise, drive and enjoy! This is Christopher’s 1977 Datsun 280Z featuring our Z Car Garage CV Axles, Z Car Garage Big-Brakes and ZCG KW coil-over suspension! He performed a full restoration himself with highlights including an ITB EFI-fed L-Series, CD009 6-speed transmission and Watanabe wheels. Let’s take a look at how Christopher got into Z cars… http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0100.jpg CHRISTOPHER: The previous owner of the Z lived less than a mile from our house. I noticed it in his garage one day on the way in to work and immediately went by that afternoon to ask him about it. It was bought new in his family and given to him by his Uncle. It hadn’t ran in over five years and he was hoping to get it back running. I asked him almost every other week for about a year to keep me in mi d if he ever decided to sell it. He eventually moved for work and was forced to sell the car… http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/447701413_838944938280680_8584117364478564692_n.jpg …My wife was the first to tell me and I was pushing the car to our house that afternoon! I got the car running after a few months and drove it stock for a year or two. After moving down south and the car being exposed to high humidity, I decided to restore the car and take care of the body before things got out of hand. What began as a tear down to have the car repainted, turned into a full nut and bolt restoration that overall took just under six years to complete. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_456922306_900058245278287_3503730717663258926_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Snapinsta.app_399372469_6769545139780444_7033556408286889991_n_1080.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_3134.jpg Drivetrain http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0470.jpg Christopher’s fanatic attention to detail really shines in the super-sanitary engine bay. The stock L28 uses Jenvey individual throttle-body fuel injection (MegaSquirt ecu) with parts from Datsunspirit and ProTunerZ. He made a mount for the IAT sensor, installed @fuelinjectorclinic injectors, @robsperformancemotorsport fuel rail, and @radiumengineering bits (fuel pressure regulator, gauge, and two petcock drain valves for the catch cans). I wanted the appearance, weight and simplicity of a 240 with the drivability, performance, and rigidity of the 280. I was inspired by GT3s and similarly was seeking to build a light weight, naturally aspirated car with ITBs and and a quality exhaust. The car now weighs 2400 pounds and I wanted to ensure only quality items were installed (OEM or better). http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0471-e1741496715371.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_450221054_398448573228675_4187046151276992810_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_449748678_1146466243291238_716481112395899223_n.jpg At Moore Performance dialing in the ITBs. Chris plans to re-visit the dyno to squeeze more power with a different CAS sensor. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0472-e1741496683766.jpg The exhaust is scavenged via a Z-story header and custom exhaust system fabricated by Tyler Dorsey. Below, also visible are T3 coil-overs, LCAs, and Z Car Garage CV Axles: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0468.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0469.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_3133-rotated.jpg Z Car Garage Big-Brakes http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/RR-41719-138-e1563913666121-1024x594.jpg CHRISTOPHER: I heard about ZCG from various Datsun Forums before I purchased the car. Rob and ZCG were known for their passion with the S30 and the research and development that went into every product offered. I chose ZCG for the lower control arms, brakes, suspension, and coil overs because I wanted a cohesive setup that was developed in a way that ensured every component worked in harmony with each other and improved the S30’s driving characteristics, not change it. As fellow S30 owner/racer Glenn C mentioned in his review, on top of braking performance, pedal feel is extremely important and our Big-Brakes deliver. This is a direct result of working with Stoptech to create a totally bolt-in solution requiring no M/C change or additional proportioning valve/adjustments. All fitting behind a 15″ Watanabe or Panasport wheel and retaining factory emergency brake lever! A few details below: Calipers: Stoptech ST42 4-piston front & rear race calipers (Alum 6061 mil-spec Type III anodized) Rotors: 280mm x 20.6 with Alum 7075 hats Pads: Stoptech 309 sport street pads CHRISTOPHER: Early on I considered more outrageous options that were popular within the community. But after researching those companies, and the reviews of their products further, it became clear that was not the direction I preferred to take. A lot were over engineered and under tested, over complicated, or unnecessary. Ultimately, I chose ZCG after numerous conversations with Rob where he spent time breaking down his own personal opinion and the shop’s research to highlight where other options may over engineer products to the detriment of the car or may not unlock the full potential of the chasis. I liked that he was honest with what he thought was worth upgrading and what wasn’t necessary. It was obvious he cared and wasn’t out for just a profit. He lives these cars. Big-Brake Kits Available For DIY Install!Z Car Garage is proud to offer our Big-Brake Kit to Z-Car owners that want to perform the installation themselves. We can ship worldwide and each kit contains everything needed with a comprehensive installation guide. Blog posts documenting all of our customers running the ZCG Big-Brakes can be found HERE. Christopher’s beautiful S30 and his ZCG Big-Brake installation: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Snapinsta.app_435539721_943390077106990_3657023161802754354_n_1080.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/445227761_838943424947498_1127968786987435654_n-1.jpg CHRISTOPHER: The installation was a breeze. Uniquely for this project, Rob and I talked early on (almost five years ago) about testing ZCG’s ability to develop and deliver products beyond the west coast. We began this venture as a means to begin testing the various elements of that process logistically. For this, Rob also wanted to demonstrate how ZCG was capable at recommending, assembling, and shipping complete components to the point that it removed much of the work and guessing from the consumer. Rob’s hope was to prove that if someone wanted the complete setup (engineered and proven by ZCG over years of experience), a customer could essentially order the catalogue and receive a complete solution delivered to their front step. That’s exactly what happened with this. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_450242056_474165268650896_5916156419367337890_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_441118989_849161577045507_1496218003327094466_n.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_9278.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_290720328_707331947034201_4538006989845368184_n.jpg Our ZCG Big-Brake kit ships with everything needed to install and retains the factory parking brake function. Chris successfully installed the BBK on his Z with and they look great behind the 16×8 (zero offset) Watanabe wheels with 225/45/16 Toyo tires. Beyond ease of installation and quality components, our Big-Brakes perform by offering superb pedal feel…everyone that drives our demo Z confirms! This is a direct result of working with Stoptech to create a totally bolt-in solution requiring no M/C change or additional proportioning valve/adjustments. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/RR-41719-129-1024x768.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/IMG_8171-768x1024.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/06B545EB-01C3-4B95-B729-17DB74CE5144.jpg CHRISTOPHER: The car feels planted like never before. Our family also has a fully restored 73 240 that is an excellent OEM example. Where that car feels stable and drives well, there’s no denying the age of its component and it drives like a seventies sports car. The 280 feels like a modern sports car and inspires confidence. The brake pedal communicates exceptionally well and the balance of the calipers bring the z down from speed a rate well beyond most cars today. The light weight of the S30 and the size of the ZCG big brakes is an unreal combo! Z Car Garage CV Axles and KW Suspension http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/redzcgcv-768x1024.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/cvstockvszcg-768x1024.jpg Our Z Car Garage CV Axles help transmit power to the ground and ensure smoother operation compared to your standard half shafts. We have over 200 CV axle kits on customer cars and we are stoked with all of the positive feedback. Christopher’s ZCG CV Axle set, #0457 installed by himself: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/444960050_838944521614055_4031948210827863231_n-1.jpg Detailed shots, note how clean his work is! CHRISTOPHER: Not only does ZCG already provide extensive installation guidance (70 plus pages of instructions for the brakes alone that cover everything from torque specs to bleeding procedures), but, for this, he assembled and shipped each corner fully assembled (spindle, wheel bearings, coil over, and camber plates). I was able to install the whole assembly into the strut tower, the lower control arms, and attach the brake lines and the corner was complete! Having this work done by Rob not only saved me time, but also gave me the piece of mind that these critical pieces of the chassis were done right and by someone with decades of experience. From there it was installing the ZCG CV Axles and I was then off to the remainder of the build. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_8490-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_456545486_466219789573695_4988481745762486330_n.jpg KW x Z Car Garage Coil-overs http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_7243-rotated-e1743483183724.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/79132B3E-9580-4354-8193-A495343542AA.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Snapinsta.app_435475640_3277988792503051_5312705007868364505_n_1080.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0107.jpg ZCG description http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_6865-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_6794-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Snapinsta.app_435453951_1100584987877003_6251338209217300970_n_1080.jpg CHRISTOPHER: The KW V3s offered by ZCG are the most valuable investment I’ve made in the car (and I’ve replaced nearly every bolt on the car at this point lol). Nothing has affected the performance and drive of the car as drastically as the coil overs. The Z is smooth on the highway and is able to carry momentum through corners like never before. I can’t wait to get it out on the track this spring. Couldn’t recommend them enough. Wether it’s the brakes or the suspension, ZCG has formed relationships with the partners that matter and have a proven track record in the auto industry. There’s nothing else like it period. Interior http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0102.jpg Chris’ phenomenal work extends to the interior where original surfaces where refurbished or replaced with OEM parts. CHRISTOPHER: I chose to put the original luggage riser vinyl back in as I really like the original small diamond pattern better than the newer options. Also installed the rear quarter panels I bought off @sportzwerks and refurbished which never came with the car. Feels good to be bringing it back better than it was. Pretty cool to see the refinished dash frame from @vintagedashes in the car as well as the dash cowl with @speedhut gps puck installed. The 6-speed shift knob is from @thedavemason: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_456715315_477712665073511_2712618493034787851_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_0105-rotated.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_448372615_1017119163358838_1714956018708019753_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_450396903_1666729274078819_3317162174021041767_n.jpg Enjoying The RideAfter a long journey Christopher is driving his Z! Follow his build on Instagram and see it in action in the video below, volume up! CHRISTOPHER: Moving forward I plan on getting the z out to meets and on the road! It’s going to be driven! I found a lot of the suppliers that helped with Nissan’s heritage program when the 350Z was released, and took the time to create what I hoped to be a quality build that maintained the character of the S30s with components that not only perform but will last another 50 years. The result isn’t blistering speed but a visceral driving experience in a truly timeless car. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/SnapInsta.to_456697429_991830179352081_8378228918654823265_n.jpg Thanks for your support Christopher we love that you are Enjoying The Ride and Long Live The Z! 14. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8522.jpg Joseph L recently took ownership of our shop’s 2023 Nissan Z. Before we dive into Joseph’s story, let’s give the RZ34 a proper send-off by chronicling Z Car Garage’s journey with Nissan back in 2021… From Prototype to Production http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_4849-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_4120-1-768x1024.jpeg Our journey with the new Z began in May 2021, when Nissan invited us to their Headquarters in Tennessee to get up close and personal with the Z Proto. We thank Dan Passe and Jonathan Buhler for bringing ZCG along for the ride. We were fortunate to be a part of a series of great events since this inaugural visit. In August 2021 we were invited to attend the 2023 Nissan Z Global Reveal event in New York: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/6842d99f-f6ec-4340-bb85-7e3f86eade71-1024x768.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/235965279_10225453470539191_365282450623496577_n-1024x1024.jpg In September 2021 we were guests of Nissan at SEMA: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/IMG_9423-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/IMG_9747-1024x768.jpeg In October 2021 we hosted a 2023 Nissan Viewing Event at Z Car Garage for the public to enjoy: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/IMG_7418-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/248241035_10158425931606334_4105234213910566646_n-1024x683.jpg In June of 2022 Nissan kindly lent us a 2023 Nissan Z for five days http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/IMG_3689-1024x768.jpg For Monterey Car Week in August 2022, Nissan gave us a 2023 Z in Ikazuchi Yellow: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/IMG_8638a-1024x932.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/IMG_9223-1024x768.jpeg Yes, Nissan even lent us an RZ34 to be Pace Car at the CSRG Vintage Races and on display at the Velocity Invitational in 2022! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/310311304_10226717229372865_7532481726400635827_n-1024x683.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/IMG_2723-1024x768.jpeg We eventually took delivery of our own RZ34 in 2023. This is a 6-speed manual, Performance trim finished in Black Diamond Pearl with Graphite Leather interior. Read all about our experience HERE. The fun didn’t stop there, after receiving our RZ34, Nissan invited us for a 3-day adventure along the Pacific Highway in this Boulder Gray Z: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/IMG_0258-1024x768.jpeg Hooked on the Track: Joseph’s Infiniti G37 Sedan http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/G37Thunderhill.jpg ROB: We met Joseph in 2022 when he had another shop install a supercharger on his G37. There were many things that didn’t work well and he had us resolve them. Once we sorted out this car for Joseph he was really enjoying it and started modifying further. Then he discovered track days, picking up the pace and loving his G37 on road courses. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/DSCN2736.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/DSCN2700.jpg JOSEPH: My journey to Z Car Garage started with a second-hand, unused Stillen Supercharger kit for my 2010 Infiniti G37S sedan. The installation had problems. At this point I’d never heard of a “track day”, so if you’re wondering why I’d buy a supercharger kit, I ask myself the same question. I needed help. I found Z Car Garage. While the repair was being quoted I read Z Car Blog, and figured out that I had stumbled on the top Z shop in the world, in my backyard. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/G37.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/453177159_873365471505293_820923547538773192_n.jpg When I first met Rob, I will never forget, he was shuffling through files, looking for mine, while signing along with The Doors–pretty loud and pretty good–but he was replacing choice words with “Z Car Garage”. “Z Car Garaaaaagggeee, is calling us”. Z Car Garage not only fixed my beloved G, but they made it Z Car Garage Style. It was a rocket. I would later learn the term “sleeper’. It was the best sounding car I’ve ever heard, like naughty angels having a good time. The only other car I heard with this sound was a 370Z in San Jose that must have been set up the same way. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/DSC9950.jpg ROB: We started discussing future upgrades when unfortunately the G37 was stolen from his driveway, all captured on video and leaving him heartbroken. A few days later the car was recovered, but not salvageable. Joseph was in a tough spot. While the G37 is a wonderful car, we considered alternative track day cars, like a 350Z or 240Z and then a lightbulb moment…what about the Z Car Garage #49 RZ34! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/IMG_8633-1024x768.jpeg We were ready to sell since it was sitting idle and not being driven as much. There simply was not as many RZ’s around as we hoped to justify it as a development car. In the two years of ownership we did enjoy it at the track, attending local gatherings and driving events like the Breakfast Club Rally’s Tokyo Calling. It was time to pass on the torch and Joseph was the guy. Long Live Joel Anderson and #49 http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/DSC01503-e1440906467525-1024x696.jpg Shortly after taking delivery of the new Z we knew exactly how we wanted to make it special, and that was to honor Joel Anderson’s #49 IMSA GTU Datsun 240Z. The graphics were laid on via wrapping and vinyl decals affixed for the numbering/IMSA stickers: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8521.jpg JOSEPH: Rob introduced me to “Hooked on Driving”. Being allowed to drive on real race tracks was a revelation, and I was “hooked”, instantly. After my first track day, we installed a Z Car Garage style suspension. I did three more track days, then the car was stolen. My heart was so broken that I thought about buying a beater and giving up the sport, for six or seven seconds. At this point I am in a simulator most mornings, practicing, so my priorities had changed. I wanted a Z. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_3068.jpg When Rob offered the shop Z, I did not think about it. I was not even 100% sure which one he meant, nor did I care. It’s like Jimi Hendrix offering to sell one of his guitars. But it was the new Z, with the 49 car livery, a tribute to Joel Anderson. It still chokes me up as I write this that I am entrusted with the livery. Anybody that asks about the car gets a speech about Joel , Z Car Garage, and the 49 car. After one such occasion, the person asked “so, did they sell you this one for a dollar??”. No-I missed that bargaining chip when I had the chance! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/IMG_0198-1024x768.jpeg ROB: Coolest thing of all is that Joseph knew the story of Joel Anderson, and asked us if he could carry on the livery and share Joel’s story. Such a win/win. Joseph has done several track days and gives us great feedback so we can continue developing the RZ34 platform. Thanks Joseph, looking forward to seeing you more and upgrading this Z to see more checkered flags! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/GGBM5098a.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/D42_5218-1024x682.jpg Track Preparation When we acquired our new 2023 Nissan Z the very first modification was a Fast Intentions TDX 2.5″ Cat Back Exhaust System. FI makes the best exhaust for late model Nissans/Infiniti sports cars, If you have an RZ34 this is the one to get with high quality, great fitment and a wonderful exhaust note. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/IMG_7436-1024x768.jpeg The Fast Intentions Cat Back exhaust system also provides solid power gains. We performed before and after dyno runs on our 2023 Nissan Z Performance 6MT and saw 388hp/392tq with the OEM exhaust and 399hp/394tq with the Fast Intentions exhaust. Expect even more with tuning, see more photos and exhaust sound video in our product review Fast Intentions Product Review. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Shop-Z-baseline-to-FI-exhaust.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/IMG_9578-1024x768.jpeghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Screen-Shot-2023-12-06-at-5.44.59-PM-1024x596.png Before Joseph’s first track day at Laguna Seca in the #49 RZ34 we installed the following parts, with more installation photos in the gallery below: KW V3 Coil overs http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8479.jpg Stock and KW V3 installed: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8484-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8494-rotated.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8492-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8480.jpg SPC Front Control Arms and Whiteline Sway Bar Set: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8483.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8508.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8495.jpg Nismo Cold Air Intake http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8497.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8503.jpg Yokohama Advan Neova AD09 tires, Front Brake Pads (G LOC R8), Rear Brake Pads (G LOC SG1), Stoptech brake fluid 600f and Stainless brake lines: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8512-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8520.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/GGBM7022.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8516-rotated.jpg We received great feedback from Joseph after his Laguna Seca track day (in-car video HERE) JOSEPH: It was lowered an inch. It handled beautifully! It was very balanced and grippy. It barely understeered. I think most remarkably, going over the hill at turn 1 felt easy, whereas in my G I felt like I was weightless and I was going to lose it. I have learned that the size, weight, and center of gravity of a car are more important than the engine. That said, power delivery was super smooth and there’s a lot of it. You don’t really feel the turbos engaging, it’s just more power. The engine still has the stock tuning and I am still fine with that. The brakes are going to get an upgrade. They performed great but by the end of the day they were pretty cooked. I think we also want an oil cooler as that got pretty close to the red, but I never lost power. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/GGBM7067.jpg What’s next for Joseph? JOSEPH: I view myself as the sponsor of the car, and the luckiest test driver on the planet. Z Car Garage is the engineering staff and mechanics. Rob is the technical director. We can build the best street-able track car on the road, as Rob sees fit. I will keep working to get better as a driver and push the car as Zs are meant to be. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/GGBM6251-2016x3024.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/lunchtimeView.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/IMG_3380-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/LagunaEntrance.jpg Long Live The Z!
