I'm with you on that one, Carl. If you want the look of a Z front end buy a Z. If the ZX fell in your lap drive it like it is rather than spending money to do something that might not be do-able in which case you'd be wasting money that you'd never be able to recoup. The body lines are different. A Z is a Z and a ZX is .... well whatever it is. It's like my 810, if it hadn't basically fallen into my lap, I probably wouldn't have it. But I'm not going to put a Skyline front end on it.

Okay, I did locate it in the wiring diagram as the 'B.C.C.D. Cut Solenoid.' The w/b wire t's into the check connector and runs to connector 1 (C-1) and continues from that connector to the one on the back of the speedometer. How it really works, I don't know. But it seems that it cuts out the BCCD as long as you're maintaing a steady speed or accelerating but lets it work if you are decelerating. Hope that helps you.
  3. You can get those that say most anything on them. Car names, cities, countries, sports teams, sports sanctioning bodies, etc. I'd hang on to it just because it says Datsun and not much is being produced with that great name on it these days.

Pimp my ride, Chop, Cut, Rebuild? Why would you want to do this?
  5. Des Hammill (two ms) is quite knowlegeable about many aspects of the automotive field. I once had a book of his on Weber and Del Orto carbs. I suspect that if you search you can find that book for much less. He has published many a book on tuning, racing, etc.
  6. Does the EFI Bible use the same relay test as the FSM? That is removing the fuel pump control relay and the fuel pump relay and testing them for continuity? The ECU sends the pulse to the injectors based on the various sensors, switches, and ignition coil.

That would be a 77-78 hood as they were the only years that originally came from the factory with vented hoods. I think I have a pair of vents but I'll have to go check this weekend at my brothers house as I've got a couple of boxes of stuff stored over there.
  8. I do recall, back in the 80s, they had a program here in California that paid higher prices. I believe that it was up to $750 back then.

Many of our Aussie friends on this site have indicated the the 280Z was never sold over there. From what I understand they had the 260Z through 78 and then they got the 280ZX. I don't believe that anyone, at least not I, is 'hung up' on the 280Z or any other badge. Too much has been made of that already. For whatever reason, Datsun decided to send certain vehicles to certain markets and that's just they way it is. For a car that was 'built for America' they sure sold a lot of them in other places! Please understand that I say 'built for America' tongue in cheek. I'm not trying to start anything. I'm just glad that they were built. Period.
  10. Your 77 was the last of the externally regulated cars. My 78 has an internal regulator. I could scan a portion, or even the whole page, of the 77 wiring diagram that shows the v.r. if that would be of any help

Funny thing is, I can find it on the car but I cant find it in the wiring diagram. But it should work without it hooked up.
  12. Which leads me back to my original post (#4) in this thread. I kind of thought that you were referring to the ignition relay, #3 in the second attachment. A bad one could keep those electrical items Enrique mentioned disconnected (i.e. fuel pump) when the ignition is in the on position.

That's the solenoid valve for the BCCD (Boost controlled deceleration device) which reduces emissions while the car is coasting. It does this by supplying extra air into the intake manifold to maintain the manifold vaccum at its correct operating pressure. It is present on my 78 280Z but not on my 79 810.
  15. Wayne, the 78 280 does have the fuel pump input and output contact points in the AFM.
  16. If it's a California car, you can run it through the California DMV Smog test history. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/VEHTESTS/PUBTSTQRY.ASPX
  17. I once looked into that for my car but couldn't find any type of chrome edge trim that was flexible enough to work.
  18. That 280Z, from my research, has had a hell of a time passing smog over its lifetime. How would you go about saving it and would it be worth the cost?

And just a shade under a billion miles! Bill, I hope you plan to put the best running engine in the best body body using the best parts and get rid of everything else. About twenty five years ago I used to say I had 14 cars. But what good did it do if only 3 of them could be driven? The rest were just junk. 23 cars in storage? What's the point? EDIT: Carl, you beat me to it!
  20. So, let me get this straight: A VQ35 in a B210 with truck suspension. The only question that comes to mind is...why? Maybe that's why I don't watch any of the 'cut, hack, and weld' shows.

Well, it is fairly obvious that Mr. (or Ms.) tfm101 doesn't.

No bids on this soon-to-be classic? Imagine that! In a 'few more years' this car won't even be a distant Pick-A-Part memory!
  23. Planning another road trip, Bill?
  24. It could still be a 79ZX trans since they are the same as 75-78.
