I'd say, based on what you wrote, go for it! 12-13 grand seems steep initially but it sounds like you won't need to spend much money after the purchase. He's throwing in the original carbs too! Does he have all the hardware? Air cleaner, linkage, balance tube, etc? If it looks as clean to you close up as it does in the pictures, and you're satisfied with the way it runs/handles I wouldn't let it slip by. After further reading the answers to the questions, it was a rotisserie restoration, it has a new dash, paint is original color apparently done right, if you have seen this car up close and can verify all of this to be true I would only have one question? Why didn't you pay him that day and drive it home? You couldn't duplicate this car for $13000!
  2. I think that was to one on History Channel 'International.' That's one the premium channels. This is on the regular History Channel which is on virtually every basic cable/sat. package.
  3. On November 7 @ 11pm ET/PT, History Channel will be airing a program entitled 'Full Throttle-1971 Datsun 240 Z.' Here's the write up:

Or you can try this picture from my 78, it's much quicker!
  5. That is true except for the assinged spots. The show is usually overbooked and eventually they place cars on the side streets. I know I'll get flack for saying this, but they shouldn't allow anything but Z's, no 510's, no Roadsters, no Silvias or Skylines, 810's etc. Allowing cars other than Z's only add to the limited space problem. Hell, I don't entertain any thoughts of winning anything, not with cars like Zrush or Too Intense, but I think I should be able to park on the main street instead of a Roadster or 510 especially since it's a 'Z' show.
  6. Rob, your mpg just about mirrors my 78. 18.5/25 but I have an 82 Maxima 5 speed which I believe has a slightly higher 5th.
  7. In all fairnesss, my response to Lachlan's zinger above not withstanding-just don't like 350toads/fatladies, read post 31 in that same thread. It would appear that the damage was repaired. I just recall your attempt to ram that 350 down everyone's throat when you bought it but fair is fair.
  8. IF THIS ISN'T A PUT-ON, IT SHOULD BE!!! :tapemouth :tapemouth
  9. Last time I went to MSA, even with preregistration, they ended up parking me down a side street with some beat up 510s. That was 2002 and because of that I didn't go in 2003. I really don't think you should have to be there at 4am to get a good spot. That show has outgrown itself over the years and really needs to be held in some other venue that can handle such a number of cars rather than on Collins Ave. And we have to pay to be shuffled off to a side street? That being said, I'll still be there parked in front of the businesses on the street west of MSA. I'll actually be closer to the show than where they put me in 2002!

Not really. Its a Road Signature. My wife bought it for me at Big Lots for ten bucks! The detail isn't even as good as the Sun Star model (the one's who make a Black 72 Z!) and nowhere near a Kyosho which are 5 to 6 time as expensive. But it's cool because it looks kind of like a 26th or 27th 'mini-me.'

And hopefully they'll both look something like this when they're done. :classic:
  12. Speaking of 'Her Majesty,' my wife bought me a 1/18th scale 70 240Z to add to my collection the other day when she noticed it at Big Lots and didn't think I had this particular one. It's a green with tan interior 'Road Signature'. The detail is not the greatest but I immediately thought of 26 & 27 when she gave it to me. :classic: As far as the MSA show, I plan to make it to the next one.
  13. But the grilles are intechangable and I'm sure that over the years people have put 1600 grilles on 2000's and vice-versa.
  14. I remember you, Chris. Where have you been, busy with school? Hope you finally get your Z.
  15. It's a 1600. There would be a 'D' emblem in the grille for the 2000 and no emblem in the grille for a 1600.

    How steep was the downhill?
  17. I'd lean toward bearings. If you had peices of valves make it to the oil pan, chances are you would be looking at replacing the block and head too.
  18. Well, I guess anything is possible. Up until last weekend I had never seen or heard of a LHD Sunny pickup. Turns out that they were made in Guatemala. I doubt that Skylines were ever made there but possibly in some other LHD countries. Which brings up the question: Besides USA, Mexico, Central and South America, Canada, what other countries are LHD?
  19. I also use Hagerty for the Z and the truck. Can't beat the price and it fits the way I use them. The 810 and J30 are our daily drivers and insured on a regular policy with Allstate. The tow package isn't that important to me since we have AAA+ cards. I intend to check this year with Hagerty if it's possible to drop their tow package.

    1976 and 1979, they're both 620's.
  21. If you find them here in the self service yards, and remove them yourself, they only cost about $40! Youv'e got to be quick because many people are aware of their popularity and they don't last long. I just saw one today. LD28 upside down, leaning against the front bumper of a Maxima wagon with the crankshaft gone. I see them with diesel engines still in tact but I don't think I'll ever build a stroker and with what it takes to get the crank out, I would want at least $100 for the labor.
  22. My brother used to refer to his engine as the 'Nascar motor.' I think the actual car they used in Nascar was the Torino Talladega.

Bill do you really have a 76 120 pickup? Or do you just not know the proper numbers for the trucks since you also list a 79 '520' 4x4? A 76 120 would be a 'Sunny' which were not actually sold in the US but a few have been bought in from South America (lhd) or overseas (rhd) and a 520 was only built from 65-69.
  24. There are so many cool cars. I forgot to mention the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 that my brother once owned. That car would give the Hemi Cuda and Challenger a run for its money especially from a roll. I seem to remember his car being geared more for top end that off the line. I've never ridden in anything that would accelerate from 60mph on up like that car.
