  1. I understood why Chris made the statement to me. I reacted to part of the story without reading through the whole thing. I'm okay with that. Had I read the whole thread, I never would have made the statement that lead to Carl's response (#121) But there is a lot of opinion and speculation here and I don't really have anything else to add since I've read the same info that everyone else has. Everyone has their own take on it. Now, how much for the 69 Fairlady?
  2. To say that Z's aren't very reliable would depend on a lot of things. The eariler carbureated cars as e racer1999 mentions I can't really address since it's been over 30 years since I've owned one. My recollection of my 70 and 72 is that they were both reliable but they were both new. You are talking about fuel injected Z which is similar to the 78 that I have owned for the last 8 years. It spent roughly the first four years as my daily driver until it got stolen. I did get it back, repaired the theft damage and stopped using it as a daily driver at that point. As a daily driver, the only problems I encountered during that span was a water pump failure and a blown tire. A water pump could go out in four years on any car and the blown tire was my fault for waiting a little too long to by new tires. I drove the car from Upland, Ca. to Whittier, Ca. five days a week, a 75 mile round trip. I presently use my 810 as a daily driver. The 810 is esentially a sedan with a 280Z drive train. Again, in two+ years no real problems other than a leaking oil pressure sending unit and a bad fan clutch. Both easy to replace and not too costly. Both cars were in good running condition when I bought them. That is the important thing when you're looking for a potential daily driver.

That uses the same reasoning a Tomohawk's dragster/Corvette thread. I assume we are comparing gross hp to gross hp as stated by the factory. These are just numbers that can be used for general comparison. I doubt that 30+ years later that a real-world comparison could be done. 'Lies, damn lies, and statistics' as the old saying goes.

Yeah, I know that now :stupid:
  5. Seems like a very ambitious project! At $5K for the head and $3K for the custom port work etc. and still having to work out the intake/exhaust, wouldn't an RB be cheaper? EDIT: Okay, I guess the $3K was for porting a standard head, but still......

I'd be very careful about scrubbing that 30+ year old headliner. It is for that very reason that I no longer have the original one in my 810 and am still in search of an upolstery shop that has a similar material and the skills to properly install it!
  7. Looks like you missed the opportunity to go for the 243mm (2+2/Turbo) assembly. But at least your ratchet died a hero!

Also, there are relays for the fuel pump, and the initial signal for it comes from the ignition relay. As far as locations, I'm familiar with 280Z's and 810's but not ZX's.

The authors point borders on being a crock. Like I said in my frist post in this thread, the TF car wins but not by much. 4.5 seconds is 4.5 seconds, no matter how fast your going. Bill, don't confuse fast with quick.

I don't know. I live 12 miles from Fairplex (NHRA) & I live three miles from California Speedway. Even when I'm done moving to San Bernardino, I'll still only be about ten miles from it.

Sound like it works on paper but if the corvette at constant 200 mph takes 4.4 seconds from start to finish and the fueler takes the same 4.4 seconds from a standing start, which would be a reasonable e.t. for a t/f, then how can it be that the fueler gets to the finish line first, regardless of the top speed?

Don't know much about it really. My brother was always the drag racer and I was always more of a road course kind of guy.

Brake to gas? Don't most drag racers use some type of line-lock device? I would think that if you have to do the brake to gas thing you'd be watching taillights in the opposing lane!

But the T/F car wouldn't beat the 'Vette by much. At 200mph end to end the 'Vette would take 4.5 sec. If the 'Vette went any faster, say 205, the T/F car wouldn't catch it by the finish line.

Isn't that a Sentra emblem on the hood?

A garage with a detached house. Amazing. This garage is only 128 sq ft less than the entire house we just sold!
  17. No offense taken, Chris. The comments just made me go back and read through the entire thread to see what I missed, and I discovered that I had missed quite a bit after actually reading it rather than just skimming it over.

I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. Although I don't think the 280 (Z or ZX) looks modern. The 240-280Z does, however, look timeless.
  19. Even in this 'warm state' we get rain. My Z (and 320) have never been out in the rain in the time I've owned them. That's for the daily drivers. (I take that back, it did sprinkle on the 320 on the way to last year's Mossy Nissan show)

My parents are from Guyana, known as British Guyana before it's independence. That's in upper South America for those who don't know. I actually grew up pronuncing the letter 'Z' as zed because of that. I remember learning of the zee pronunciation in that age-old 'ABC' nursery rhyme.
  21. Well after going back and re-reading the thread, I guess I had skimmed over a thing or two leading me to what I conluded. And as Chris (26/27) so eloquently pointed out, it would appear that I've been had. Considering my limited knowlege in this area, I'm going to just sit back and watch for a while before I comment again. :paranoid:
  22. It almost as if, from some of the responses, the you guys are looking for bragging rights as to which country the car was designed for. Carl's responses are not about that. They're about fact. The videos that we've all seen, even have Mr. K. himself indicating that the U.S. market was the main focus. I could care less, I'm just glad they built them, period. Personally, I don't see the need for all of this considering the guy was simply trying to establish the value of his car. If I were NovaSS, I would just sit back and watch you guys fight it out, it's interesting on many levels! But is doesn't really answer his question. If my car could cause all of this, I would definately keep it! Rock on Carl(s), Alfa, Mike, Alan, et al.

  24. Yes, they seem to be grouped 75-76 and 77-78. I'll check in my manuals once we get unpacked in the new house and see if I can find out anything about the water temperature switch. I can't find it on the microfiche CD.
