  1. Chickenwafer, I would agree with everything you say except for your assesment of the price. I don't think that 280's yet command that kind of price, and I own one that's about as rust-free as you'll find. Unless you're talking about a fully restored Zap or Black Pearl or one with documented super low mileage, I wouldn't expect the price to even approach 10k. More like 3-6k depending on condition IMO.
  2. You'll have an 'A' box unless a PO swithced it out.

On a somewhat similar note, in the US where we only had the 260Z for the 1974 model year, I have come across a few late 260Zs that were built late enough in the 1974 (9/74, 10/74) to be actually titled as 1975. This would suggest that there must have been a lag in the developiment of the 280Z causing them to contunue prodicing the 260Z until the 280Z was ready.
  4. 'Injector clicking?' That's just the normal sound they make as they open and close. You actually want to hear them click. Unless you're talking about valve train noise. But, back to the gist of this thread. Labling it as a 'fixer upper' as you did in your description of it, I wouldn't go much past 3K. You'll spend at least that much again in paint, carpet, upolstery, etc. 6 grand total, would be a good investment in a clean, strong running, but not necessarily show quality 280 IMO. That is more or less the description of my 78. I have about 3K total in mine but I did mine back in 1997.

I have a choke on the 40DCOE that's on my 320 pickup. I think they do refer to it as an 'enricment circuit'. I looks kind of like a minature carbureator within the actual carbureator. I just pull the choke and hit the key for a cold start. If your webers have it, I would recommend hooking it up as it does help cold starts and you can gradually push it in the engine warms while you are driving.

If it's done the same over there as they did it here in the US, I would say that both are correct. The higher number would be gross hp and the lower would be net hp. They seemed to make the change here for the 1979 model year.
  7. I sold a couple of those for $250 each about two years ago after finding them in the local Ecology Auto Wreckers for $45 ea plus my labor.
  8. Actually, back when I posted that, I thought it would be much better than it turned out to be. We have already discussed it at length. Take two Zs, spend a little time and money on them, and make them slower!
  9. johncdeere, on a note much more pertinent than this thread, at least to me, I love that morphing avitar! How does that work? Can it be done with more than two images?

It might be hard to pinpoint the year. Both my 78 (280Z) and my 79 (810) have the BCDD. And they also both have N47 heads.

The best 240 in 1/18 IMO is the Kyosho. They even have the vertical defroster lines. Yat Ming is about the same quality wise as Road Signature and the least quality wise would be Sunstar. Sunstar is the company that makes a black 1972 and as we all know, there were no black 240s from the factory.

They (both sets) were 46mm 'Boat Anchors' rebuilt and 'played with' by myself and a couple of friends of mine back in the late 70s/early 80s. Let's just let this thing go! This is the second time you've tried to tell me what kind of carbs I had.
  13. I have that trans in my 78. It came out of an 82 Maxima. I really don't notice much of an acceleration difference in the lower gears, not do I notice any difference in the throw. That might be because my shifter bushings were shot in the old trans so I can't really compare it to the newer one. But I do notice the gas mileage and rpm difference with the higher fifth gear. I bought mine used eight years ago and haven't had any problems with it.
  14. What kind of results/improvements was this device claiming to yeild?
  15. Some of the S30s I've seen with the serpentine belt did it in order to use the Maxima 90 amp alternator.

Can't be a 260. Remember they are "RLS30" and besides he says it has an L24.

From what I can determine the 75-76 switch is the same as the 77-78 switch except for the connector. If you can't find one maybe you could change the connector on one of mine. Let me know, I'd give it to you for the cost of postage.

I almost posted links to military vehicles. I guess automobile production actually ceased for the 1943-1945 model years. Don't know for sure, despite what some people think, I wasn't here yet!

Wasn't automobile production ceased 1943-1946 due to WWII?

I probably have one but it's for a 78. My stuff is boxed up because we're moving this weekend but I'll know for sure early next week. I don't know if the switch for a 78 is different than a 76. Where are you located?
  21. Humor, ar, ar! I wonder if the non-Chevy oriented got it.

I sometimes wonder why you drive that car but I guess it's the only one you have that runs. All I can say is be careful.

Well, I was born in 1950. Some of the most interesting cars came out in that era, IMO. They styling, engineering etc. was so different to what we have become accustomed to. Wood sided station wagons, large rounded shaped vehicles, distinctively styled trucks, and some very unique and highly sought after European cars. Japanese cars weren't even here in the US yet. You know what those cars look like. Your parents, like mine, drove them.
  24. Tomo, all of that stuff falls under the heading of 'no-brainer!' Once again, HELLO!!?

From what I have figured out, at least in the U.S., a 75 260Z is the same as a late 74 260Z. It seems that Datsun didn't have the 280Z ready in late 74 when the model year change took place so they continued to produce the 260Z until the 280Z was ready. In other countries the 260Z was produced longer, I think until late 78 (79 model year) because they never got the 280Z. I seem to remember someone saying that that was the case in Australia.
