  1. That's him. I never knwe were 'Nismo Heights' was. He's from Los Angeles.
  2. IIRC, my good friend Blake sells those. Haven't seen him for a while but i don't go to as many Datsun gatherings as I once did. That picture might even be from his auction. He's excellent to do business with. He knows his Datsun stuff. He builds 3.1L strokers that work, and is a carb, efi, and turbo guru. I'd never hesitate to buy from him.
  3. Basically the same statement but with a little more detail. I just didn't buy any of that stuff the other mechanic told you. The one with the high prices in the other thread. If Joy can do all that for $200, go for it! Although the oil pan gasket, well I had to raise my engine off the mounts to change that gasket which I did while I had my tranny out so maybe she's just going to check the tightness of the pan bolts.

Looks like I be changing out a couple of pilot bearings soon. Either by choice or by necessity, whichever comes first!
  5. Timing can be adjusted. If your chain sounds loose, you might need a new tensioner. Semi-easy to change if you know how and if no one has put sealant on the part of the head gasket that contacts the timing cover. Blowing out the fuel lines etc. has no bearing on the valve adjustment but would be easier to do while the tank is out. To bad that the mysterious 'Racerville' is not close to San Bernardino. Most of the stuff your car needs is basically preventive maintainence and I can and have done that and I'm more than familiar with these cars and could save you some serious money.

I don't like any of the S130 wheels on a S30. I polished those myself just to see if I could do it. I wouldn't do it again! The shops that polish wheels earn their money IMO. They have the skills and the proper equipment. I spent almost as much in materials as it would have cost to just take them and have them done. Not to mention my time. I've had the 6 spokes, the Iron Cross and even the 15" 'Swastikas' on my car but didn't like the look of any of them once they were mounted. I like the so-called 'Black Pearl' wheels (they really aren't) that I have on it now. I'll keep them on it unless I can find a reasonably priced set of real Libra's (Libre's?).

Took me a while to find it. I ran these for a while in 2003 but didn't really like that look on my car. They look more at home on a ZX. Sold the rims to PrOxLaMuS© and put the tires on my truck:

Iron Crosses are 14 X 6. Stamped right on the wheel on the 'cross' to the left of the valve stem. I had a set of those on my Z for a while that were highly polished. Sold them to 'Prox' in Colorado.

Come to think of it, I only have them in the two that I don't drive much. My daily driver still has the bronze bushing in it. The Z and the truck have them and I don't think I've put more that about 1500-2000 miles on either of them since the install. How long do I have?

Roller pilot bearings cut down wear and tear that stock bearings put on your input shaft. I'd say, if you're going to go in there anyway, why not? I have them in all three of my street driven Datsuns. I've been told that they require more maintainence, but I've not had any problems yet.

I was a freshman in college and hadn't owned my first Datsun yet when that song came out.

14, 30, and 31 are the wires to the ECU side of injectors 4, 5, and 6. If you're getting 12 volts from those connetors with the key on (engine not running) that's correct. In that same situation you should also get 12 volts from wires 41, 55, 56 which are the other side of those three injector connectors and they come from the dropping resistors. The 'grounding' only takes place when engine is running and the dropping resistors are energized. If you check the voltage on any one injector connector by putting one probe in each side of the connector and starting the engine, you should see voltage, usually - or + .4 and up depending on rpm and depending on which probe is on which side. Leave the other 5 connected so that the engine will at least run. The signal oscillates so fast that it won't show the actual 12 volts but at that point all you really need to see is something other than 0. If you see those readings, you're getting a pulse. I hope that makes sense. It's easier for me to do it than it is to explain it.
  13. Lots of immaturity on that site. Youth is definately wasted on the young.

Kickstart My Heart is about 4 years older than Trans-Island Skyway. (1989 vs 1993).

True. But I was thinking stock dish pistons to .040 over flat top pistons. Which is 8.29 to 10.03.

Those '40 over flat top pistons' would raise the c.r. about 1.5 points by themselves. Add in the 'Head shaved' and it climbs even more depending on how much it was shaved. That cam might not work well with EFI, though Schneider says it will, but it's the same cam they recommend for carbed cars. It's the mildest L series grind they sell but the duration seems a little hign for basically stock fuel injection. A 60mm, probably 240SX, throttle body won't work well with a stock AFM. I'm assuming the AFM is stock since there is no mention otherwise. I see no mention of larger injectors either. It might just be that all this engine needs is a stock throttle body, a stock fuel pressure regulator, and a milder if not stock cam. I would be a little concerned about the compression ratio possibly creating the need for higher octane gas, however.
  20. No one is yelling. It's just that if you you're going to spend the money anyway, why not start with the engine that has the most potential? That's entirely up to you. It is, or will be, your car. You don't have one yet, right? You'll definately need head work, i.e. cam, rockers, springs, porting, which costs money, as well as ignition if you want to run those 'tripples' and expect them to perform properly. Getting them properly setup, i.e. jetting, venturi size, emulsion tubes, etc. is an expensive crap shoot unless you have someone who knows how to work on the which also costs money. You're sitting there, without a car, dreaming, with a lot of incorrect knowlege, with very little, if any clue about costs, what works with what, etc. and if you follow what you've said so far, all you're going to do is get in over your head.

MSA wouldn't have brass bushings that I'm aware of. I never owned a Dodge, I just remember that it said that on the package. I did own a 71 Plymouth Duster 340 6 pak that I wish I had today. It's probably rarer than a sub 500 VIN 240Z.

If you know that you're getting a pulse to all 6 injectors, do you know for a fact that they're all good? For whatever reason the first four injectors are on the first dropping resistor and 5 and 6 are on the other so we can rule out where I was headed in post #2. It would seem odd that three injectors would be bad, I've never experienced that, but it's possible. Probe your injector connectors one a time with a voltmeter while the car is running. If you get a reading of about .6~.7 volts you have a proper signal and either the injector is bad or the connection is bad.

I tried the brass ones in my 810 for a while. I think they were actually designed for the door pin of some Dodge vehicle. They were nice and solid allright but they rattled/buzzed when I got up to speed in 5th gear. So I just bought about 20 of the OEM ones since I have three vehicles that use them. They're pretty inexpensive.

A buddy of mine bought a set of those from Rockauto also and I helped him install them. As I recall, they were made by AC Delco and looked to be better quality that the chain store type. I also recall his saying that he could buy 5 sets from Rockauto for what one single OEM strut would cost, if you can find them.
  25. I meant the name changeover. S30's don't say 'Nissan' on any of the badges. Niether did any Datsun prior to 79 from my unofficial junkyard research. They added the little bar that says 'by Nissan' on the 79 models. 210, 510, 810's etc. prior to 79 didn't have it. I think the transition to the Nissan name began in 79 and was complete by 82 or 83 to the point where the word 'Datsun' didn't appear anywhere on the cars.
