  1. I remember reading about that but the ad is almost three years old. The RWD Maxima diesel engine could be modified to fit in a 240Z but it would take modification since the Maxima has a front sump oil pan and the S30 is rear. As far as the biodiesel conversion, I imagine that's also feasable since biodiesel, from what I understand will work in any diesel engine. This car, however, wasn't all it was described as and I doubt that it sold for the $20K asking price. Here are some other thoughts: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/4/1467732/1467732
  2. Suggestion: Buy those new. You'll be happier in the long run.
  3. Would the phrase 'except for' inserted in between eased your confusion? Suffice to say, the the man put a lot of work into this car and, for the most part, walked us through it. And it was about as 'frame up' and the work could have been. And I think he did a damn good job. Maybe that's why he doesn't post here anymore. Most of us don't have cars that are original and we can't even agree on what 'original' is. Yet that's the first thing that gets ripped on one of these 'let's see how many things we can find 'wrong' with this car' threads.

No, that's Ron down in Seal Beach, Ca. No personal dealings with him but I've never heard anything but good things about him. The guy on eBay is in San Diego.
  5. I'm getting ready to put my 83 ZX non-California 5 speed into my 810 to have the higher fifth gear and maybe get a little better MPG out of my daily driver. The trans it it now is original and has all three switches and the replacement trans only has the reverse switch. To find out what would happen with the elimination of the other two, I disconnected them. The car actually ran better and got better gas mileage with them disconnected. When in 4th or 5th gear, those switches (1 & 2) send a signal to the vaccum switching valve that advances the timing in an attempt to reduce HC and NOx. My previous reading with them connected w/the AC on most of the time, driving back and forth to work was 21.3mpg. With them disconnected it achieved 23.2 mpg under the same conditions. I alwas wondered why my Z got better mileage than my 810. Now I know. It doesn't have the 'Transmission Controlled Vacuum Advance System'. Thanks, yor5150, for posting this thread and getting me thinking about this.

I get an error when I try to the link. I have that somewhere on my computer. It's more directed towards a 75-76.

I believe I also have one amongst my parts and I don't even own a 240z.
  8. I also remember Karo syrup. Both of them did a nasty job on a fuel system.
  9. Leaded fuel will destroy your catalytic converter, if you have one.

I run my cars (the 810 and the Z) in hot weather with the AC on all the time. It was 101 degrees today. I have never expericnced what you're describing in either car. Both of my pumps are older than that. I'd suggest the fuel pressure check. If the pump is working properly but the regulator is bad in such a way that the pressure is low, it could cause that problem.

Good point, Arne. I was addressing his three questions and skipped over the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is malfunctioning and not producing enough pressure that could produce symptoms similar to vapor lock. But technically speaking, on an EFI car there's no such thing as vapor lock. Someone will always bring up the ZX cooling fan an contend that it was an attempt to cure vapor lock but in actuality the fan was part of the emission control system supposedly designed to lower emissions by cooling the fuel mixture. Must not have realy been too big a deal. They only put it on the ZX's. 810's and Maximas didn't have them.

Listen to what you like, as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters. I'm 57 years old and have a music degree. That said, I doubt that my tastes would match up with a lot of what I've read so far. Can't deal with Hip-Hop/Rap. It's just not my generation. I do like music from the late 60s through the 80s and it becomes somewhat sporadic after that. I like jazz from the 50s-70s for the reason that was mentioned above: But I also love lyrics. There are musicians out there that are absolute poets and that sometimes gets lost in the music. I can't pin it down by saying I like any one particular kind of music. I like virtually everything that Hrududu listed and some of what others listed except WingZro. Sorry, bro. I'm just from a different generation. I never listen to radio stations when I drive, except when I drive my wife's car with her in it. All my car music is either on mp3 cd's or in an mp3 player.

EFI doesn't vapor lock. It operates at a high enough pressure to push fuel, vapor and anything else through the sytem. Except for sediment, rust, crud, etc. I would use fuel injection rated line for any line in an EFI sytem. If the fuel damper is bad, the sound of the fuel pump will be abnormally loud. Improper fuel pressure can cause any or all of these: difficult starting, high or rough idle, misfiring, lack of power, hesisitation/stumble, surging, dieseling, and poor fuel economy. Here's a scan from the FSM:

He's not a lizzard, he's a gecko. What about the cavemen? Do they have names? I only know that one of them is getting back with his girlfriend Tina. Did you notice that the people at that party aren't cavemen (cavepeople?)

Don't mention it....really! There are those who think I've already lost my mind.

That sounds like an installation/adjustment problem rather than a problem w/the system itself. The defroster ducts aren't closing completely as they should be when the controls are in the AC position. Or the seals aren't properly installed

The microfiche also lists a Fed and Cal for 8/76 up 'ASSY-TUBE FILLER UPPER'. Actually four different ones. A Fed and Cal for the 2 seater and a Fed and Cal for the 2+2.

Hell, the original poster of this thread is on my ignore list. The only was I see his posts is when he's quoted. Now, if I could only learn to ignore the threads posted by those on my list.

  20. Well this is just a shot in the dark because it happened to me once in the 810. There is a plastic bushing on the bottom of the shift lever that the lever snaps into. Mine was broken in three places and caused some strange problems with shifting that were cured when I replaced the part. 32861-N4200 is the part number but while you're in there it's a good idea to replace the two on the sides also. 32855-H1010. You'll need 2 of those.

Where does the 1400 RPM setting come from? I've never seen that anywhere except on Atlantic Z. I set mine to open at anything above idle which would be somewhere around 900 RPM as stated in your attachment. The 280Z FSM doesn't give a speed. It says approximately 4 degrees rotation from idle speed.

With the method I described, you don't have to open it. That's just a way of showing what it does a the different positions. A continuity check will do the same thing with the cover on. As far as opening one up to clean the contacts, that's a different story but you don't have to open them to adjust them.
