There's also this thread on Hybrid Z: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/32764-naps-l28-intake-manifold-with-twin-butterfly-tb/ The author of the post is NZeder who is also a member here but I haven't seen him on this site for at least a year.

I guess if you can navigate through the hostility over there you might actually find more info......

Weren't there some later (like mid to late 80s) non USA vehicles that used the L series 6 cylinder? I've been around Nissan/Datsuns my entire life and never saw this on any USA Datsun/Nissan. I doesn't look 'modern' pre se but it look more modern that anything that would have been on a mid or late 70s Datsun/Nissan.

As I recall, the version of the NAPS used during that era was used on the Z series four cylinder engines. I don't think there would be any gain or even if it could be adapted to the L28. It was basically an emissions system. Nissan Anti Pollution System.
  5. Not trying to argue; just an observation. You do the same!!
  6. Your quote: Gary didn't say that......
  7. I've never done it that way. Even at the age I am now, I could proabably do it that way ironically because I didn't do things like that to myself when I was younger......but I still wouldn't. Always had access to the proper tools and equipment.

I have both an electric and an air operated impact (as well as a hammer drill but I don't think I've ever used that on a vehcle). Most 'tire jockeys' don't know that the torque can be adjusted on an impact gun so there's no reason to ever over tighten anything with them. Do you actually mean a hammer drill or an air hammer?.

So, Blue, you don't have an impact wrench........

    Not a fan......
  11. I wouldn't put much stock in that. The only thing that showed is how those 8 (?) vehicles and those drivers did in competition with each other. What about variables like vehicle conditiion, modifications, driving skill, etc.?.
  12. I was close to closing a deal on an early 260Z eariler this year but the so called 'owner' couldn't produce the proper paperwork. Shame, too, becauce it was a nice car and the price was right.
  13. Actually, it's Steve's (madkaw) topic....
  14. From eBay ad: I have catalogs from Nissan Motorsports, Nissan Competition Dept., and Datsun Competition Dept., ranging back to the earliest one they printed and there is no mention of this scoop/vent in any of them.
  15. Sarah, you're dipping your bucket in a dry well........
  16. We had a long running thread that ran off an on for 5 years or so about the interest in the reproduction of those scoops/vents or whatever they're called. The seller might have a tough time with his price...... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?22959-competition-hood-interest

Sounds more like you are working within your own logic...........

And your point is??????? Remember, this is a classic car site............
  19. The short answer is no because of the level of difficulty. It's been done but it does require some machine work and fabrication. You can use a 5W71C transmission with a 280z-280zx front case to fit the transmission to your L24/26/28. It would require some grinding to clear the front gears on the input and counter shafts and swapping the front counter shaft bearings. Also you'd need to put the 280Z/280ZX front case in a mill and drill out the 5th/reverse shift rod hole to 16mm from 14mm. You'd need to make a trans mount and a longer driveshaft since this trans is 2-3 inches shorter. Lots of work while the 280ZX trans is essentially a bolt in.

I guess that depends on who did the installation. My 78 had the so called 'dealer installed' air but they drilled round holes and even put rubber grommets in them for the drain and refrigerant lines. 280Z could be purchased with either dealer installed or factory air. One of the indicators is that the factory air has a four speed fan instead of the standard three speed and an 'A/C' position on the control panel.
  21. Is that 'retro kit out of Texas' a complete kit? I've never been a fan of using 134a in the old, R12 based systems.
  22. Sorry, I got the descriptions reversed. Both of those models of Datsun used MJ167 compressors. the Q0500, which is for the HLA10, might actually work on your ZX since it's setup for a L series (although a 4 cyl.), but at very least, the clutch would be the same and you could use it. I'm an AC tech and have tinkered around quite a bit with the old Datsun AC systems in the past.
