87 Maxima....brings back bad memories. I had one in 1995-96 and all it did was give me trouble. It ran allright but electrical gremlins led me to getting rid of it. Like the digital instrument cluster that would go blank whenever it felt like it and just as mysteriously return or the shifter that occasionally wouldn't come out of park.

I'm no puritst by any means. All I meant is that in the future, 'hybrid' will likely become more prominent than 'original' which is pretty much the point of Andrew's second paragraph. As far as the GTO, it's pretty much the same as the Holden CV8 (Vauxhall Monaro in the United Kingdom). Parts are plentiful here through GM even though the Pontiac name itself will dissapear in 2010. I've done a lot of research on this as this will be the last car I ever buy. I've heard others in my family say that but I guess I'm old enough now to state that as my intention. Even if parts become harder to find 10 years hence, I imagine it would still be easier than hunting down 30 year old Datsun stuff.

Another 240Z exhaust goes NLA
I notice of late that many of the newest members are younger, like 23 or less. They seem to come in with some bad notions, i.e. the thread about L28 pistons or talking about puting V8s or SR20DETs in these cars. Doesn't give me a good feeling about the future of the Datsun hobby.

L28 pistons on L24 Rods & Crank
I'm hip to that but he was talking about putting L28 slugs in a L24 block..........

Hood keeps popping open
Why would anyone doubt that? Especially enough to test the theory?

L28 pistons on L24 Rods & Crank
Where did you get the notion that the pin heights were different? Whoever you're getting your Datsun info from....you need to fire them!!

That's pretty normal for the straight 6.

L28 pistons on L24 Rods & Crank
The L24 (and L26) is 83mm while L28 is 86mm,

Air Conditioner question for 77 280Z Coupe
I reacall using my hand held anemometer to measure the air speed at the center vent of my 78. It's been a couple years since I ran the test so I don't remember the exact reading but I compared it to the air speed generated by the center vent of my wife's HHR and it was comparable.

Are you referring to the exhaust system or other Datsun parts? If you mean other Datsun parts, then do you mean from Japan directly? If so, that makes the process even more costly since you also have to pay a 'middle man'.

Every time you check, it seems that some other Datsun part has become no longer available. Soon, I'm afraid, the Datsun situation will be pretty much the same as the other Japanese marques.

Air Conditioner question for 77 280Z Coupe
Your stock blower must have been problematic. I have a 78 with a stock fan/blower and have had no complaints in 100+ degree SoCal summers.

Another 240Z exhaust goes NLA
I drove one last year and immediately vowed to one day own one. It was a 2004 which is a 5.7 liter w/350hp. The 05-06 are 6 liter w/400hp.

Yep, that's my plan.

I'm selling the Z, Truck and 810 and buying a 2005-06 GTO.

Another reason why I'm doing my gradual exodus from the Datsun hobby. It's not just the 70-73 parts market that's drying up nor is it just the S30, it's all Datsuns. Like Greg said in post 4, there is much better support for other vintage cars.

Spark Plug troubles
Proper precaution when installing the plugs is even more essential. Like I said, I've never had to use the tool. Since the original poster crossthreaded three plugs (if I read it right) this is probably a moot point anyway.

Spark Plug troubles
These tools are magnetic. Like I said, however, I've never had to use mine and would probably use the heavy grease also just as an added precaution.

Spark Plug troubles
Lots of companies make those. The one I have is made by Alltrade but KD tools, Westward tools, and many others make them. I've owned it for years and luckilly I've never had to use it.
