from what im told the only real need for super or leaded fuel is to lubricate valves over here have just changed to lead free super and a lot of people are running unleaded high octane instead but on older motors where valves are a possible problem the add a upper head lubricaten dont know how they fit it but its just a bottle with a tube connected to the manifold somewhere but depends on your motor really need to talk to who built the motor so you can find out if head is set up for unleaded or lead Mick

  5. i dont question the price at all i was just saying look at the values i mean i know my rx4 rally car was a $1800 piece of fun now that its eaten over $10,000 its still a lot of fun but what would some one pay for it I know i would have luved to rally a zed but i new the cost of panels so i decided the Rx4 was a much cheaper way to go i mean you can get a whole car for $50 bucks panels for $50 so its a much cheaper car to have fun in and push to its limit(also know id be pretty shitty if i killed a zed already on the third rx4 shell 2 navigators drive days where not good new rule no navigators drive) As for the 240 rally cars there was a comment that the $30,00 car had ahd over $60,000 spent on it say at that rate it was good value for some one my own zed would owe me inexcess of $30,000 and thats with out labour but what would someone pay Mick
  6. come on then whats your plans Im all for modifieds Mick
  7. I find it hard to believe that the Z purists dont appreciate the modified zeds to me we should all be part of the same family and look at the quality of any zed and appreciate it i mean at the end of the day we all love zeds why put up barriers and create different groups there are not enough of us to be divided together we can stand tall but while people keep creating haves and have nots we are a weaker group for it I mean the last z nationals i went to and won best 240 modified (93 sydney) after the award you hear the mutterings that my car was nothing but a street machine and then when i got the divisions for melbourne z nationals i see that cars like mine where exculded to a street machine group which is fine by me but we really need to appreciate the workmanship of each car too and really how is my car not a 240z just because im running a V8 and not the 6 cylinder motor everything else is the same Even a car like mine could very easily return to orginal trim while it could never be returned to concourse the only mods stopping it are the smoothed rear bumpers and the fact the body has been fully seam welded also smooth to the engine bay seams otherwise it has no unorginal holes which to me is the beauty of the zed Yeah and for the porsche i would luv a 928 with a late model ls1 chev in it good cheap hp in a classic car what a trip but to me my zed is better than that now as you said it is a sore point with me that a small group as such as the zed movement can still create divisions in itself Mick
  8. I agree keep the original cars orginal and owners of them should only sell them to collectors not young hoons I have to admitt i set out to buy a 240z ( still think i should have bought a smick 260z 2 seater but it was twice the price in hindsight it would have been cheaper) didnt care what year wasnt till Two years later i even looked at the chasis number to find it was number 640 Must say the modified 240z rally cars are starting to ask some big money saw one recently for $30,000 another for $15,000 and theres even one on rally .com.au at the moment for $14,000 http://www.rally.com.au/index.cfm?fuseaction=forsale.advert&ad=2041&cfid=14478461&cftoken=6621265 Mick
  9. I agree with your comments but if you are lucky enough to own a matching numbered concourse car how much are you going to drive it i mean the more Km the lower the real value Mick
  10. My view is two zeds sitting side by side one modified tastefully one stock orginal I would most likey buy the modified because i can use it as much as i want If i had money to spare would luv to have a orginal car to keep and look after I think any car with all numbers matching should be restored to orginal state But cars like mine that have already been changed beyond hope of being restored to orginal may as well be used for a modified base i mean it has the looks with better suspension brakes and more horse power you have a true super car that you can afford Isnt it better to keep a zed on the road than junk it because its not original i think so I respect those who want orginal cars and can appreciate the work to do this but at the end of the day i want something i can use. Mick
  11. i really dont think the zeds have moved up in price the way they should have i mean mine was a junk heap back in 86 when i bought it for $3000 good examples where bringing $6000 at the time in 1990 a mate got $18000 insurance on a 240 that was written off was smick but not great and really we are still looking at $20,000 for a top example now In the rebuild on my car i spent inexcess of $25000 back in 1990 that was with me doing all labour except leather work and outside paint work While i agree some people are just being stupid in there asking prices for ratty cars (but its all about what someone will pay I know now my bargin cost me a lot more than a good car would have at the same time) overall the prices should have risen more I mean what other sports coupe can you buy for the money bar an rx7 Mick

the door rubbers i used where just a universal door rubber come with the plastic coated metal to clip over the joint on car and the rubber seal glued onto it in one piece pretty sure than still do it that way here lot of all holdens and old jap cars use same rubbers just differnt thickness i used the thinner rubbers on bottom ahalf of door and thicker up over the glass section to get a real tight seal works a treat Mick

Yeah as you say 10 years ago vents where hot the guy i got some parts off in Nsw wanted me to put some in right or wrong but i resisted ended up fixing up on of the average bonnets and cutting the hole in it for the bug catcher the panel beater was not happy he told me he wont touch the bonnet with hte hole the first time but when i said i wanted the hole in it he weakened Must say the hole does let it all run cooler one plus Mick

you can always go the way i did and get an antenna to stick on glass put mine on top of the hatch no holes in the body to spoil the body lines antenna is only about 8" long so you hardly notice it works ok even here in tassie where we have lots of hills and few radio stations Mick
  16. zed240au posted a post in a topic in Electrical
easier to hook antenna up to igintion so it goes up when you turn the car on you could use the same wire your running to the cd unit to power it if its switched by the ignition switch Mick

they look great to me would need to check offset to make sure you can run the tyres you want Only thing i would say is if your heart is really set on watanabe's then wait and get what you really want I know i wasted $1000 buying my first set of mags (rials) sweet mags looked good but where not the Simmons that i really wanted so ended up selling them for a loss and buying the simmons 10 months later Mick

that reminds me of when i was you and stupid had the zed tweaked up running real sweet look like $^!# but went real good crusing down the highway at about 140 km and theres two z900 bikes passing a car on double lanes there sitting on about 120 km so i pass them and the car they are passing in one sandwiching them between me and the other car they where not happy shaking there fists and started chasing me so it was pedal to the metal rest of the way home flat out hard to shake till i got into town and new the back streets better than them was fun though Keep it for the track these days but it is satisfying beating bikes on the road Mick

early motoring reports that i have read suggested that the hand throttle was there for rallying cant say i can see any great advantage in the idea but thats what i read my car is a july 70 and it either has had a later console fitted or it did not come with the hand throttle Mick
  25. I really cant see why mig welder would not be strong enough for the rotisserie i mean i build mine that way and it worked fine the thickest steel was 10 mm mild depend on mig i mean 10 mm is the limit of mine but its sweet for all body stuff and steel up to 10 mm just need a bigger mig if you want to weld thicker I really prefer the gas mig to the gasless much cleaner and can weld lighter steel easier bit of a pain outside though if its a windy day. Over here they suggest tig welding for cages Regards Mick
