Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
There are rubber grommets between the pump and the mounting braket. Might get some rubber isolators to go between the braket and the chassis some time if I get pissed off with it. The carbs are freshly rebuilt, so they should hold up fairly well. I'll see if I can get my mates fuel pressure gauge on there some time this weekend.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
Had it on and running yesterday. Did some driving in the avo, then for a few hours last night and now i've just driven it back to the panel shop.....it's running fine. It's certainly cured my running out of fuel problem, don't know about the vapour lock just yet. Instalation was a breeze. Had to bend the mounting bracket a bit to clear the moustache bar, but appart from that it was fine. It's a noisy little sucker though! You don't really hear it over the exhaust and all the mechanical noise when your up and going, but damn.....when you first turn the ignition to ON! Oh yeah.... I bought everything I need to wire it all up properly with it's own good power feed, relayed, fused etc, but I ran out of time to do that so it just wired to the stock fuel pump wire for now. That wire only gets 10.5V and that's with no load, so the pump wont be pushing anywhere near what it's capable of. Really I don't see that being a problem as the fuel requirements of my current motor are somewhat small. What would be the max pressure the carbs could handle?

kings springs--anyone used them?
420mm is pretty tall! You'd have to double check but I'm pretty sure you will find the lows for the 260Z 2+2 are non-trapping.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
No psi rating sorry. The instructions say if you need a pressure regulator it needs to be capable of flowing something like 400-500 HP worth of fuel. How accuratly that refelects what my pump will flow, I don't know. It's a different number, but it looks identical to the top pump here... http://marineengineparts.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page81.html

kings springs--anyone used them?
Front: 335mm Rear: 350mm There isn't a 15mm difference in tire to guard gap front to rear though because I have 215's front and 225's rear. It's roughly 1 inch from tire to guard front and rear....maybea tad larger gap rear. Interestingly, a mate has exactly the same springs on his zed, but he has 60 profile tires, where I have 65's and his has a noticably larger gap as a result. Still looks good though.

toecutter: that's pretty close to how mine sits, although mine looks a bit lower. I'd say that's cos it's running 225/65-14's, which fill out the arches a bit more.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
The pump is a P4070.....that's what the box says anyway. I'll have to have a look at the pump to check. Still can't get the bloody fuel tank off, so doing the breathers will have to wait.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
Just spent all day going around all the wreckers here....no one has an RX7 fuel pump, let alone anything rx7! Ended up buying a carter.....I'll need it down the track anyway. Ran out of time to installing it today, and I'm having trouble undoing the bolts that hold the fuel tank straps (replacing the vent lines while I'm at it). HKSZ: I'm using the 240Z round tops. Stock heat shield is in place, but as soo as the headers go on i'll be making a better heat shild. Oh... and I'll be buying a new filter tomorrow. The local z guru told me that some 260's had the electric pump, some didn't.

My guess is that kings usually make a low and a super low, but for the zeds they don't. As is the rear lows only just trap.

kings springs--anyone used them?
Only just put kings springs in my zed as of last week. I didn't know there were super lows as well, mine are just lows. It sits with about 1" between the top of the tires and the wheel arches, which is about 1-1.5" lower than with the stock springs. In the combo I have with the KYB shocks they're firm, but still fairly smooth, certainly not harsh at all. Don't have the digi cam atm, but I'll try and get a pic for ya with the work camera.

Thanks for the offer z kid. I'll see if I can pick one up at the wreckers tomorrow, but if I can't....i'll give you a yell.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
So would I just not use the mech pump, or would I completely remove the pump from the engine? If so are there any hastles in doing so, or is it straight forward?

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
Brett240's right....it's be just under 40deg up here all this week. I think I'll give one of the RX7 pumps from the wreckers a go. I see if I can get one of these brackets too. I still have to replace all the fuel tank vent lines, so I'll do whole lot in one hit in the next few days. Thanks for all the help guys.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
It seems what I have is two problems. One is where it just seems to run out of fuel when you get up into third, exactly as Zpeed described. Also the vapour lock problem. This morning I got stuck in it for 30min after stopping at 3 places for about 5min each, with only 5min driving between them. It stuttered then just died. It seems an electric pump is the go. Just tossing up whether to go something good like the carter, a cheaper new pump or something like the RX7 pump from the wreckers. Fuel filter should be only 3000km old.....but I'll check it out anyway. One question... If I bought the carter, i'd just wizz off the mech pump totally right. But if I got say a cheaper elec pump, would you run it in series with the mech pump?

Max tire width on 7" rim on front of 260Z
Just got my zed back, and realised that it's running 215/65-14's front and 225/65-14's rear. Now I've looked at a mates zed and he's running 225/60-14's as is jeffs73z above. I gather the 60 profile would be correct ?

Mine being march 74 is one of the very first 260z's....which seem to get quite mixed bag of bits and pieces.

Do aussie 260Z coupes have an elec fuel pump?
As in title. I thought the 260Z's were all supposed to have an electric pump as well as the mechanical pump? Mine sure as hell aint got one. I've been having a few vapour lock problems now that I have the car back....or what I am assuming is vapour lock anyway. Almost 40 deg days aren't helping. Basically, whenever I get hard on the power it'll be fine through 1st, then either up in the revs in second or into 3rd, it'll just loose all power. Back off and it's fine. The problem is alot worse when the car heat soaks after a drive. Yesterday I gave it a boot leaving the servo upto about 80, then looses power.....and it kept on doing it for a few minutes to the point that I could only just hold 60kmh. Just putted it around for 10min then it was ok. Ideas?

Has anyone's zed experience been soured by problems?
Well.....I finally got the car back last friday after 7 and half months off the road. The mechanical work ended up taking a good bit longer than it should have as two different shops sold me the wrong suspension gear. Also my mechanic has been pretty busy and so have I as it was the last week of lectures. Anyhow....I've been a little grumpy with it the past few days as it's having vapour lock problems (almost 40 deg days atm doesn't help) and I'm just not used to driving the thing. Apart from the vapour lock she's running pretty sweet. The new suspension is a god send and it's making a good bit more power with the overhauled carbs. Took it for a little blat this morning just for the hell of it.....I think I'm getting to like it again!

Fuel tank overflow problem
Thanks bambi. I've had a quick squiz at that and looks like a pretty good guide to follow. Also...I'll have to check the condition of the grommets around the breather lines where they come into the cabin. It'd probably explain the amount of fumes I have in the car despite having sealed up just about everything else!

If you could send me that photo it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm gonna start the job pretty soon, so might not have it in time. We'll see how it goes. datto-zed@performanceforums.com

Fuel tank overflow problem
According to the hanes manual I should be able to get at the 3 vent lines just be loosening off the straps, without compleley undoing them. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow.

Fuel tank overflow problem
Just got the car back! Finally! It's been almost 8 months off the road. Anyway... I've just a quick look under the back and it appears the only way I'm going to be able to even check where it's leaking from, will be to drop the tank. Someone please tell me there's another nice quick and easy solution!

Fuel tank overflow problem
Mine is a 260Z.....so it does....well should have the evaporation tank! I'd assume one of the lines between the fuel tank and the evaporation tank has either broken or fallen off. I STILL don't have the car back, so looks like it will be the weekend before I can have a look at it.
