  1. i think u might be right, and i’m pretty certain there’s no pin holes. i’m hesitant to do redcoat then make it worse . i can’t get that remaining previous sealant i believe is what it is to come off any better. i don’t know if the red kote will stick to the old stuff real good or not
  2. i think i’m just gonna run one last thing of acetone and let it dry good then do red kote and let sit for a week until i get done working on the mustache bar and u joint
  3. it’s hard i took it to pressure wash again nothing even came out tried to scrape it with the metal end. guess i’m just gonna run one last thing of acetone and let it dry out and red kote it. idk what else to do other then drive a couple hours each way and drop it off at a radiator shop
  4. i’ve pressure washed, acetoned 3 times , 3 baking soda rinses , muriatic acid , not in order but in total and it don’t look much better then it originally did. i feel like i’m just wasting time and money . i’ll try pressure washing one last time
  5. that’s what i originally did before i did everything . i took it to the car wash pressure washed everything . did muriatic acid , baking soda , acetone. idk if i should even try to use red kote after it dries because idk if it’ll stick to what’s left
  6. i noticed there’s bubbles and stuff at the bottom of the tank , idk what it is if it’s still the other sealant
  7. i let everything soak for about 15 minutes and tumbled everything around . how long should i let it dry for with the heat gun in it ?
  8. this is after the muriatic acid , soda and water mixture, and acetone . still wet now but i think it looks better then it did
  9. i got some muriatic acid, acetone and red kote . im going to see if i can get it done today or tomorrow . do you leave the sending unit in assuming the red kote is not good for it and order a new one or take it out and mask it off ?
  10. there’s no local radiator shop here closest ones are 2-3 hours away since i’m in the middle of nowhere in new mexico. i think i’m gonna order red kote and do a muriatic acid on it tomorrow or the next day and let it sit for a few days or so. im just hoping if i do the acid wash it gets rid of the current coating as well but idk if it will make it even worse
  11. also i found a kyosan denki fuel pump and original fuel rail fairly cheap i can pickup. wonder if going that route would be better with original style fuel pump
  12. i didn’t really plan on coating it since previous owner did and i feel that’s part of the issue with the tank. when i pulled it out noticed it was all sticky before i even did the acetone . he probably didn’t do it correctly like you said before. i just don’t wanna do all the work and have the same outcome
  13. if i do the muriatic acid and then the acetone at the end before the red kote can i let it sit around my garage until i order the red kote? my local oreilly and in town don’t have it. i’m in the middle of nowhere and won’t get it in for 3-4 days
  14. one i seen on ebay is $660 and ships from the netherlands or new zealand i can’t remember. i just don’t wanna spend that much if i don’t have to. if i do the acid does it have to be coated instantly or can i wait to get it if i order it ? i don’t think anyone local has it but i did see muriatic acid at walmart
  15. the front of the intake has a rubber ring around the opening. was like that when i got it and it has a k&n air filter. the petronix ignition only has one wire going to it it was hooked up that was when i got the vehicle as well. i just swapped out the distributor cap and plug wires. i might swap the cap back an maybe the wires too.
  16. this is how it sits currently. after spraying it out at the car wash , 2 tanks of water/baking soda and 2 acetone cleanings.
  17. lmao , that is after the first quart of acetone when i poured it out came a dark brown/orange color.
  18. is it red kote or rust? do i run with the muriatic acid then do the baking soda and acetone after ? i’m contemplating buying a new tank but they’re $600
  19. i put a quart of acetone in it sloshed it for 5 min and let it sit for a couple min and that’s what it looked like coming out
  20. that’s how i currently have the plug wires and distributor setup
  21. i haven’t adjusted the valves yet . i swapped plugs here’s a picture of them. front 3 were whitish tan, back three black
  22. i did install a distributor cap with oem style ngk plug wires when i did the spark plugs. previously had taylor wires and distributor cap. but it has the flame thrower ignition so maybe i’ll change that back as well and see how it is after i get this put back in
  23. so there’s the fuel i drained out of it. i just wanted to clean out the tank and not reseal it. does look like it was previously coated. by the filler hose area there was some peeling or maybe sticky sticky varnish
  24. so i dropped tank washed it out , going to run acetone through it then rinse out few dimes wife water and baking soda. might be a dumb question but if one of the vent hoses was broken would that keep it from having good fuel pressure in the system? reason i ask is because one was the original braided hose and brittle and was already basically broke in two
