  1. Add to that the fact that so many owners have theirs painted a darker than original color and it will of course seem way too light.

Not true, only around 350 were ever MADE, and only around 50 were exported to the United States. I also dispute it being called a "sport compact." the 2000GT was a true sports car in every sense of the phrase. Sport compact is what they call something that ISN'T a sports car yet they want to market it as being sporty. And i'm not exactly sure about your cost figure there either, I have seen them go for various prices in great condition over the years. It is not like going out and buying a Z where there is an expected value for a car that is pristine : if you don't like Seller X's price, you probably won't find another one up for sale.

I too have never heard "Mexican Orange." I have heard Competition orange but I think this is more a case of owners assigning it a name rather than just saying #918 Orange edit : spelling error. After all, I wrote this post while I was still doped up on drugs from surgery
  6. ZMeFly was quite well known and 'respected' on this forum until he ripped a few people off and faked his own death

My dad had an s500 in Japan during the 60s. That had the chain driven drivetrain

I look forward to seeing this as it's something I am also interested in. I have an unused pair of infinity 6x9s that I am wanting to put to use eventually. My only concern with mounting them back there was how to properly secure them so that they wouldn't become a projectile in a collision (*knock on wood*).
  9. I'm pretty sure it was custom built for that application, and chances are it wouldn't fit on a Z anyway even if you managed to get a copy made since the car is of a different width. AFAIK it was made by a custom shop in Japan and despite all the threads started about it, I don't think any more information has ever surfaced besides these pictures. I think MSA has a new airdam out that looks somewhat similar.

Ron, I was wondering from looking at the pics : How come the headlight covers are removed in the trailered pics? It looks like there is just an empty space behind the bucket anyway Very nice car!

Very nice! What brand kit is this being built off?

    1) The circuit for the choke light is pretty simple IIRC, it has a switch on the console choke linkage, and turns on the light in the ashtray cover (i'm not sure what year car you have since you didn't specify it). I would go over that circuit if I were you. That said, my choke light hasn't worked since I bought the car since the switch isn't even hooked up. It's something that didn't really bother me but now that you mention it, I think i'll try to fix it. 2) It would depend on the electronic ignition and how it was wired up. There are some diagrams showing how this is done. Tachometers tend to be pretty flakey from my limited experience. My original 240z inductive loop tach didn't want to work properly with the pertronix unit I installed(it bounced around when RPMs went above 3000 or so), and the 280z tach I bought to gut and put in its place didn't either for some reason(it did almost the same thing as the inductive loop tach, weird). I think that particular petronix unit was faulty somehow at this point since it was wired up 'properly' in each configuration I tried. Luckily the local Z guru had an extra original 240z tach and he slapped some points back on there for me. 3) I believe the speedometer bouncing is due to the cable binding up in the sleeve as it rotates. There are some threads talking about how to help alleviate this by letting some lubricant work its way down in. (i.e. by having a straw taped on one end kept vertical with a column of some sort of oil in it and leaving it overnight) 4) I'm no expert on the circuitry or anything, but my ammeter seems to behave similarly and I have a new voltage regulator and my alternator seems to be working fine. 5) I'm not sure if my gauge is incorrect or what(and I understand its fairly common that the pressure sensor is out of whack), but I generally have the pressure needle farther up on the gauge, usually around 70-75psi or so while cruising at highway speeds. When I idle it drops down closer to the bottom, maybe around 15-25psi. This seems to be a little high given the trend on the other gauges of vertical being the 'normal' operating status.

Which manual? There are(or were) some scans of the FSM wiring diagram for various year Z cars on this site in the downloads section. Depending on who made your CD deck, the manufacturer may have a PDF of the manual for your model online.

That last one has to be the ugliest paint job I have ever laid eyes upon.

All the places I have checked didnt have any pre-made harnesses for a Z before 76 or so. I wired it up by hand referencing my FSM and the manual that came with my receiver. FWIW I installed a panasonic CD mp3 player(CQ-1300U I think) and the manual had a 2 page diagram showing what every connection on the deck's universal harness needed.

Agreed, I think I picked up a simple spark gauge set for less than a few bucks. Incidentally, my last set of BP6ES plugs was already at the perfect gap according to factory spec.

Do you have to find something negative to say about every thread?
  19. wow $10.50 for that 4 speed. I am shocked. I would have taken it for more than that. I wish I hadn't neglected to watch it

The gallery will be here once someone approves them all. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3194 I resized them all to 1024x768 so the forums would take them. If anyone wants the full size (5mpixel) original of any of them, just msg me. A few of them don't have good focus, didn't really notice until I was home unfortunately. This museum is smack dab between Austin and Houston, and if you live in the area I recommend going out for a visit. It only cost $5 to get in and they basically let you walk around and look at whatever you want. Most of their cars are from the 20s-50s, with only a few exceptions. It ended up being about a 1.5-2 hour drive. Their website is http://www.oldcarcountry.com The museum is called Sterling McCall's Old Car Museum. If I am right, I believe there is a Toyota/Lexus dealership in Houston of the same name. The collection got started as people brought in old cars for trade-ins on new Toyota/Lexus cars. This particular 2000GT was apparently owned by the owner of the dealership when it was new, and went into this collection eventually. I can't remember where I read that however.
