The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
I will be booking my room at the end of this month. Good call on the idea of extra parts to bring on the trip. I love the Classic Motorsport magazine as well! Chase

First Zcar need some advice....
The white one is definitely a better starting point than getting the other two and making them into one. It all really depends on your budget and automotive skills. The only major bad side to the white 280z is that it was blue at one time (according to the shock towers) and un-color changing a car is a pretty time consuming job. It sounds like you and your friend will be able to do a lot of the work to it, and that red one would keep you guys busy for a long time as well. Do what YOU want to do, but take in consideration what the guys on here are saying.

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
The swap meet is at Lagrave Field in Ft.Worth, is a meet for just about everythingt with wheels on it. The people who sell the POR product have a big fancy setup that easy to find. Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
Not to cause any arguing or anything, but from personal experience with por-15 I think it's a great product. I've used it in a few tanks and it has been awesome. However, it's always a good idea to go professional with it too. As long as the tank surface is clean and thoroughly dry, it will not become a shrinking bladder. If you have the money, get it done by the pros. If not, do it exactly like the kit says and you'll be fine. Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
That could solve most of the problem, but there will always be a bit of free play in the shifter. Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
The kit has a heavy duty cleaner in it that you pour in, tape up the holes, and shake the mess out of to get full coverage. But, the old-fashion way is to dump a bunch of rocks in there with some rust cleaner products that you can get at O'Rilleys, and shake that up for awhile. It's a workout, but it gets the job done. Ill find the name of the rust killer stuff I used from O'Rilleys. (Rusto something). Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
That free play is a normal thing. I know it feels like the trans it about tho drop out of the car, but don't worry it's all good. I drive a 91 BMW everyday, and it makes the free play in the 240z feel even worse. Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
October 21st is the next DFW swap meet. The company who I got my kit from should be there that weekend selling it.(can't remember the name right now) If you do plan on getting it from them, get the smaller package of tank coating. The one rated for 12-15 gallons is enough to coat a swimming pool. Chase

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
What are your intentions for the car? Is it a show car or a daily driver? In your position, I would go ahead and drop the tank. Whatever is in there can and will easily get trapped in the fuel lines, which could ruin the fuel pump and mess up the carbs. Keep the contamination in one place. I have already done this to my car, on a scale of 1-10 where 10 is the hardest I would rate it about a 4. You can find kits for re-coating a tank at swap meets around here in Tx. The kit has everything you need, it can be done in a weekend especially now when it's still hot outside. You would be replacing fuel filters every time you started it if you didn't clean the tank because of rust particles. (personal experience) Good luck with the Z! Chase

I know it's not a Z but.....
"I'll get some pics today. Chase, post some too. There is a site for our trucks, need to find it again Bonzi Lon" Lon, Later this weekend I'm planning on cleaning the truck up so I can take some more presentable pics of it. It has not been started in a year, my plans are to drain the engine, trans, and rear end fluids, replace them with good quality oils, drain the tank and check for contamination, new fuel and air filter, new slave cylinder, and battery. Hopefully without too many surprises Ill attempt to crank it over. Chase

I know it's not a Z but.....
I just picked up a little Datsun 620 from the original owner today. Overall a pretty solid truck, a little rust here and there, and a ton of dirt. Nothing major. My main question is is there any parts catalogs or websites, like Blackdragon or MSA, that sell repro parts for 620s? Most parts I could probably find for it would be on eBay or Craigslist, but other sources would be nice. I've seen some small internet businesses that sell a few chrome pieces and some rubber, but not a full blown inventory. Chase

"Pimp" my calipers
IMHO, I would go with a red or high temp clear on them. I like the look of red calipers, i don't think people would look down on you for your color choice unless it was like lime green or something. Just dont slap some brembo stickers on them and you'll be fine. Clearing them with a high temp clear looks good as well. Mine are painted a high temp aluminum color which gives it a clean look. Chase

In search of choke light bulb
I have been to a few of the chain auto parts stores around here. Tomorrow Ill see if a local foreign parts store has any. Worst case is I won't have a light to tell me a lever 6 inches away is open or not.

In search of choke light bulb
Is there anywhere besides online stores that offer them still? Chase

In search of choke light bulb
I was doing some electrical work in the center console and am looking for the choke light bulb. I know it's getting power as well. I've searched a few local parts stores with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Arne answers questions.
Arne maybe you should post a list of everything you've owned. Seems like all the suggestions on here are cars/bikes you've already had in the past!

Arne answers questions.
I second the 914, I've owned for a year or so and restored it for cheap. They are in the price range as a 240z and a blast to drive! I would look for one thats spent its life a little south from you Arne since rust is a major problem for them. Good luck! Chase

Interesting Z Video
I don't think the video stands as a good example of what is the fastest Z up to the 350z, since there was 6+ drivers with different driving abilities. A true test would be to get the lap times of all of them from a single driver for true "scientific" accuracy. And by the sounds of most of them, I don't think a lot of them were good unmodified examples.
