So I emptied out the floats in Dixie cups I'll post pics soon to show how much gas was in it. But when I went to check for spark during the start up i wasnt getting any spark. So that leads me to believe the new pertronix I installed I did it wrong or there's something wrong with the coil. I'll post my pics soon, I'm a little disappointed because I thought I'd have spark....
  2. Since I just got my car my wife got me a 255 piece craftsman mechanic tool set and a 50 dollar autozone card. Clothes and ofcourse some arse!

IS there an easy way to check for fuel? Basically I have an hour lunch break and the haynes ,manual shows all these things to take apart all these things that will take longer then a lunch break. Edit- I've already changed the fuel filter and after the engine was turned over I saw that fuel had already made it into the filter.

I already added asked for parts(I.E. AutoZone GC) for xmas to get her running haha. I just didn't want the rain to get in the engine if I worked on it. Id feel bad, I actually didn't get a car cover because I heard those increase rusting because it keeps the moisture on the car so it will rust faster. Unless theres a cover that is water resistant and moisture resistant.

Wow the one on eBay is 14.95 and the other is 79.95. I think i will order this, the Haynes manual is good but it's not to user friendly to me. It's for a 240,260, and 280 and they are probably mildly different. I'll order mine tonight and hopefully get it before Xmas so i have time to research and plan when a sunny day hits me.

I don't think I have a leak in the master cylinder, but I don't if the lines are old enough to just break while im driving:stupid: Once i get her running I can see how the breaks are at my work since I have a small parking lot thats closed to the public. I'll be changing all the fluids when the time comes....Im on crutches so my mobility is off

I do have a Haynes manual, I was given that with the car. I switched out the fuel filter already to see if the pump was working. The new fuel filter has fuel in it from me trying to start it a couple times so I think the pump is working if there's fuel in the filter. I don't know if the last owner was driving and the car died or if the car just didn't start anymore. Im assuming that it just didn't start because it was already in his garage and i don't think he could push it in by himself up a driveway. I'll tackle the carbs on the sunny day and cleaning the air filter. This rain is so not fun to make me wait.:disappoin

when I first picked u[ the car before the rain I bought a new battery and tried to fire her up with some starting spray, she will start and die with the spray. When this rain goes away I can test spark, Im also going to pick up a little turkey baster for squirting some oil on top of the pistons, I didn't realize that the insides would get damaged.

Ohh ok so it is supposed to be oily? I checked the plaugs already, they are brand new but they are autolites, im going to be buying some ngk next week after xmas money starts rollin in The Car actually has clean oil since the last owner drove it 50 miles and it has a full tank of Gas. But yes the oil and gas are 2 years old sitting in the garage, I just upgraded the breaker points to a pertronix igniotion system and it still wont turn over. I need to get a second person to help me with checking the spark. I took pics of the distributor upgrade I'll post those later tonight. There is a wire that is somewhat exposed on the ignition coil wiring that i think could be a reason that it stopped working for the last owner. But I can check spark when it stops raining.

So I don't know if anyone would know if this is normal or not. But I was checking the air filter and to me it looked extra dirty but it also seemed maybe oily? I've never worked on a carbuerated car before, but that doesn't seam right. Filter looks to be a K&N performance filter that can be cleaned. But Im not sure I want to clean it because how dirty and oily it is. I might just go ahead and order a new one. But does this sound normal to everyone?

Here are the photos of the car. These photos were given to me by the last owner who gave it to me. These were taken by the owner who sold it to him. Anyways I'll also add the one photo I too with my Iphone. The seats have no rips, the transmission was changed to a 5 speed from another Datsun, there's literally no dents or rust that I can see at the moment, but I don't know what its going to look like when I finally get it home in doors and I can get underneath. This car came from New Mexico so it shouldn't have too much rust going on since it was in running condition about 2 years ago. Ohh and the Vin is HLS3000979

Duly noted , its not free anymore I've spent a few bucks trying to get her running, doesn't want to turn over fully. I can't do much since she's parked at work and it's been raining a lot since I got her in november.

Hi everyone, I always dreamed about having a sports car or a manual transmission car for that matter. I'm a manager at a doggie daycare and one of my favorite clients owned a 1970 datsun 240z that he told me about a few times. I have been searching for a second car and I couldn't narrow down what I wanted to buy with little money that I had to save. One day my favorite clients wife told me she was making her hubby sell his car or give it to the neighbor because he had t touched it for 2 years(stopped running after he bought it). So I said jokingly you guys should give it to me, I'll fix it!!! And so after a maybe 15 min drive home I got the call "it's yours!". So I would like to say Hi I'm alex and I own a 1970 Datsun 240z
