Just got back from anther show in Seattle today with Dave, still getting good gas mileage. All the Datsuns at the show came home with a trophy it was pretty sweet. Kidding James no show today just had to mess with ya. You'll be at the next one. Did manage to anodize anther water pump pulley cover I had today. I estimate anther gain of a mpg or two with the addition of this new shiny part. Also repainted a few other under the hood parts. Still on the list Paint the block (at least the visible side for now) Clean the head Delete the Carbon Canister Remove all tack wields for carbon canister and A/C stuff Anodize more stuff (under the hood light, coil bracket, starter) Clean all the vacuum lines Clean BCDD connection Clean heater hose bracket Clean inspection cover Put in hella stainless bolts Find someway to drill out last bolt on my other intake mani (machine shops are crooks 85 dollars to drill out one bolt my arse) Polish other intake Header Powercoat the heat shield Clean and paint all brake lines and brackets

Haha no second, I wanted to call you to see if you'd come but if I remember right you mentioned your days off are generally Monday and Tuesday. The next one is July 18(Sunday), I'll probably go assuming I can get that day off. Hopefully have my intake polished by then (getting the last broken screw drilled today). Also going to try and anodize a few parts, water pulley cover (or whatever the popper name of it is) engine bay inspection light and whatever else I can take off. Going to be a long few weeks of sanding, polishing and anodizing. But hey i had a bit of people look at my engine bay at this meet I assume the shiny valve cover caught there attention. So that's what the kids are calling it now a days. :sick:

Haha without me there probably wouldn't had been enough cars to make classic imports a class . Who knows what other car they counted as a classic import, you need 3 to make it a class. Put a bolt where the fuel rail splits off for the cold start valve and tightened it down. I'll take a picture tomorrow if you don't get what I mean. It doesn't leek and seemed to fix most problems.

Well Dave said it was a pretty simple fix. Apparently he said there is a direct correlation between how shiny your engine is and your gas mileage. So needless to say we did this.. Next is my other Non-ERG intake. But in reality I think it was just a leaky cold start mixed with all my valves be hella off. Got 17 mpg (mostly freeway) today when we drove 120+ round miles to a sweet car show at Pacific Raceways. I'll keep trying to fine tune it so i can improve that number a bit more. Thanks for everyone's help.

After plugging off my Cold start my car no longer does what your cars does. My car use to also have a dip in the rpms when I started it. I assume the cold start was flooding it until the ecu corrects it (or something along those lines) If I were you I'd plug it off and see if anything changes. Idk if there's a test for a leaky cold start injector.

Today S30driver (James) and I went over to Zs-ondabrains (Dave) and worked on my car. We adjusted all the valves (all way off) and fixed the timing. Both my mechanical advance and vacuum advance were working fine. We plugged my cold start valve off at the gas line. We figure it's summer now and I'll probably not need it as much. We also did a compression check and got the following readings Dry Wet 161 170 155 161 157 160 155 170 151 177 162 185 We also regressed all my linkage to ensure nothing is sticking. I'll give it a few days and get back to you guys on the next fill up and see if anything we did fixed my low mpg problem.

How would not having the original transmission effect this, currently my car has a late 280z 5 speed in it. Would the vaccum advance just never open?

I have a similar problem as you do, I'm looking forward to hearing what you find when going through the EFI troubleshooting. How your gas mileage been since this was happening? Edit: Rock Auto has them for a little over $50. At checkout when it says how did you hear about us type "34251932812537" without the quotes and get 5% off. Small but it can help with shipping.

It's been my DD for about 3 months or so, I've been working on it for about a year now trying to get it to that status. I've yet to run Seafoam, but I've done a recent oil change and fuel filter was changed a while ago. Also if forgot to mention I already changed the water temp sensor recently. I guess I can disconnect the full sized horse tailor I've been lugging around behind my Z. Didn't realize that would affect gas mileage. Also the parking brake is off when it's in the up position right? That sounds very promising my car does the same thing at start up as his dose. It has a little hiccup right after being started for like 2 seconds then goes back to idle. I will check this out as soon as I can and get back to everyone. Thanks for all the advice.

So after finally making my 76 280z a daily driver I've discovered its getting horrible mpg. After my last fill up I only got 7.5 miles to the gallon. So I figure it's time to start trouble shooting this problem. My car is pretty stock with a 5 speed. Most of my driving is city. After reading the EFI bible I'm still in need of some guidance. Some ideas i have are Leaky cold start injectors? I'm not really sure if this would led to 7.5 mpg though but I'm pretty new to EFI. Bad AFM? Mine has corrosion on the circuit board on the AFM. Sticking Air regulator? Bad coil? Mine is the stock 34 year old one, this going bad could also explain my occasional lack of low rpm power too. Bcdd sticking? Causes the rpms to stick occasionally, I thinking of just running a positive 12V connection to keep it closed. A little more info about how my cars drives. It generally doesn't like to idle at the same rpm every time. Sometimes it idles at 1200 other times at 600. Generally more towards 1200, if I mess with the idle screw it will idle very low in the 500 range. When in the 500 range the car is gutless, I can go all the way down on the gas and it takes it's time moving up the rpm range. Any advice would be much appreciated, I really can't afford to get 7.5 mpg.

It's pretty sweet, I've used it for a while now. The only thing they don't tell you in those ads is that you have to feed the monkey too. I'm already on number five wish someone told me sooner.

I'm assuming it's turning over just won't fire up? Will it start if you give it a little throttle when turning over? Do you smell gas after you turn it for a while trying to get it started? Might be a broken cold start valve but I'd let other put there input in before buying anything.

Yep that's what Dave was telling me, we'll probably go to that too, despite leaving on Saturday. It's my first year going and falls the weekend after college finals so I can't wait should be a lot of fun and I can finally meet some people off this forum in person.

Canby, Oregon, which is about 20 miles or so away from Portland. It's the biggest Datsun show in the Northwest. Its next weekend, June 13th. A rough draft of our plan is to leave on Saturday (June 12th), meet up with others at Krispy Kreme off I5 in Tacoma then all head down there. It's at a fair ground and allows camping. So we plan to just camp there over night to help split up the driving, then head back on Sunday.

I'll try and find the thread on NWN, but this same topic came up. One member posted a link to a site that had a decent list of gas stations that don't use any ethanol. I'll edit this post once I find it.

Looks nice, are you going to Canby this year? If so a few guys are all convoying down and your more than welcome to join us (Zs-ondabrain, S30driver, and me). I'll be posting a thread under goodies -> events when we finalize the times.

It wasn't fun doing to say the least. Dave and I ended up reversing the front bumper brackets and bending the hell out of them. Which involved Dave using a bench clamp and standing on them to get them to bend. We ran into more trouble with the front bumper itself but I'd imagine most people would have better luck then we did. We ended up getting a slightly bent bumper that stuck out 1.25" on each side. So it ended up needing to be cut in the middle re-bended and re-welded to get it to fit right. The rear wasn't a walk in the park either, to get the sides to mounted we had to tear up the rear interior (inner quarter panels) to drill a mounting hole. 240z bumpers use a mounting holes that are side by side while the 280z have holes similar to 260z (diagonal mounting holes) so we had to drill new holes to get it to fit. Note that we live in Washington so it rained during the majority of this work. I attached a few pictures of the finished product and a comparison picture next to two 240zs.

Generally there's some pretty sweet cars there. If anyone wants to have a mini Z meet after the show (maybe in the middle ish of the show or after it) I'm down to get a bite to eat and meet some fellow Z lovers.
