Finally - My Z Arrives
Most stores carry most parts out here still too. But only Advance and NAPA stock NGK plugs, no one carries NGK wires and no one carries Bosch caps rotors. Since the car is a toy I can wait a few days for parts and I really wanted these brands. We're limited to AutoZone, Advance, Pep Boys and Napa out here. Nate

What Fire Extinguisher to buy?
FWIW: The HALON we use in our engine rooms is HALON 1301 and is set on a 60 sec time delay to give enough time to evacuate the space. The liquid version,1241 I think, isn't as "potent" and this is the stuff in the handhelds. CO2 works the same way, by dispacing oxygen. If Co2 is used in a confined space it can remove enough O2 to kill a human.

Finally - My Z Arrives
Nice catch stephen! I didn't notice it until I loaded the pic on the computer, and then I ran right out to check it. There doesn't appear to be a leak right now, the flash from the camera really made the green color noticeable though because I can't tell outside. Notice the oilly residue. That doesn't appear to be coolant. It's pretty cold out right (32F) now so I'll probably look into it a bit more when it warms up again... maybe in a couple of days. Nate

Finally - My Z Arrives
Wa-Hoo! I did it! I have now rendered the Z un-drivable! I notice that the fuel filter bracket is barely being held on by one screw. The screw will not tighten either. I pull the screw and bracket out to realize that it is originally supposed to be held in by two fasteners not on and that the screw that was holding it was much larger than the other whole. hmmm, a crappy fix... let me go one better. So i pull out the pop rivet gun and voila! - shes fixed. Now with the hood still up I crank her up and get ready to go for a ride. When I go to shut the hood I notice a spark from the coil wire. Hmmm, I've got a coil wire in the tool shed that might fit, let me replace it. When I pull the coil wire off the distributer cap - I notice a BIG problem. The socket is filled with white corrosion, the metal part of the wire was stuck in the cap and coil wire socket of the cap has a quarter inch wide crack all the way down! I found a company online while trying to find NGK wires called Auto Parts Giant and decided to give them a shot. I've got a BOSCH cap rotor points condensor and fuel filter on the way along with NGK wires and plugs all for $62. I'll let you know how it goes. Nate Here's a pic

What Fire Extinguisher to buy?
I find this sites explanation of the ABCD terms interesting. Especially C. I've been an Electronics Tech in the CG for just over 8 years, and one thing we NEVER stop training on is fire fighting. In the middle of the ocean we are our own fire department... and ships are full of hazards. here is my 2 cents A: Organic fires... paper, wood, etc. B: Flamable liquids... fuels, oils, etc. C: Electrical... note: you should only fight an electrical fire when energized when you have no other choice. If you secure power you are dealing with an A fire. D: Combustible metals... Magnesium, old VW engine crankcases were made out magnesium. Our helicopters have many magnesium parts on them... if they crash on deck we blast the entire helo overboard with straight streams of H20. My suggestion to you is an ABC extinguisher. This is a dry chemical extinguisher, typically PKP, that will work on most everything. I would also recommend something larger than the little thing the lady in the pic on Kidde's page is using... that will last maybe 5-10 secs at best. Take it from someone who has actaully fought a few fires... you don't want to run out! Ansul products are pretty good, and they cater to professionals also. I believe their portable line is called sentry.

Tinted windows on a 240Z
Here in SC the law is 30%. The police WILL check if they pull you over, most carry the light gauge in their cruisers. My Frontier has a black 3M film on it that has a "metalic" content to it so that it reflects heat but the tint does not look silver or metalic in any way. I believe the film is 34% and after being applied to the window it equates to 32%... Legal for SC. I have a guy locally I've been using since high school and he charged $50 for my truck and was finished in about 30 minutes. The 3M film is guaranteed for life and he guarantees his work completely. On my last truck after all the bubbles and haze went away, about 5 days, it became evident that the passenger window had a small bug trapped between the glass and film. No problem he replaced the piece and it was perfect. Zhead240: the film is applied to the interior side of the glass. Also here is a pic of the Frontier @ 32%. Still had the stock tires...

Tinted windows on a 240Z
Huge fan of tinted windows. The new tints use a metal in them so that they don't fade to purple and they reflect more heat. I have tinted every truck I've ever had which have all been black so the tint helped a lot along with a silver metalic front window shade when parked. I have not seen a 240 with tint yet and I am debating on tinting mine. A note on removing old tint: Most tint shops use amonia sprayed on tint to remove it. This being said, you should not use a window cleaner that contains amonia, ie: Windex. Eagle One 20/20 does not contain amonia and is safe for tint. I also recommend that you use a professional tint shop to install tint. They know what they are doing, can tint any window, and will guarantee their work. Nate

Finally - My Z Arrives
$5000. And I had to buy it sight unseen too. It was very nerve racking waiting for it since I had to wait two weeks for it to get here! If I had been out there I would have probably paid a little less, but I am very happy with the price I paid. I got a nice, very original, unmolested 240. The only 240's I've found out here were only a 240 shell with a L28 and/or completely rusted out. This one has a few small rust spots, but the floor pans and battery tray look solid. It is missing all the badges except the hood ornament, though. Original owner and nearly 300,000 miles... a combination that shows he loved the car enough to keep up with it. He had his reasons for letting her go and was happy that she was going to someone that wanted to keep her classic, ie: no body kits, V8, or stickers. I love her and hope to keep her forever! Nate

toyota engine compatability
Toyota Engines belong in Toyotas. If you want a toyota six, why not buy an older Supra? My VERY narrow minded opinion. Nate

Finally - My Z Arrives
Frank, My previous experience with worn bearings is that they tend to make a "whiring" noise where as mine is more of a "clicking" sound. I do plan on replacing all the wheel bearings soon but I think I will try the struts first. Pics would be great. You can either post them here or just PM me if you like. Try to stay warm Nate
