kph in a 240Z?
Straight swap from either a late 240 or 260. The gauge is exactly the same.

Hella H-4's vs Stock
Hey H4, Both Hella & Narva are German made, on the surface it appears that both are excellent quality, so how do they compare? The DL on the zed are Hella pencil beam, after reading the Narva Cat, I'm left wondering if the Narva wide beams wouldn't be a bad choice to complete the front lighting rail. After all, globes are globes, but are the reflectors the same? Opinions please!!

Hella H-4's vs Stock
Local Narva site doesn't list severe duty, is this just a terminology thing? http://www.narva.com.au/Globes11.html

do i have to take the dash out?

Hella H-4's vs Stock
Mightn't be available in Aus. Fellow rally club member is owner of a local Autobarn and advised all globes the same. Will post onto local rally board and see who bits?

kph in a 240Z?
69/70 I think was the changeover. Vaguely remember it in high school [anyone remember changing from LSD to $?, or have I given away my age?]. Anyway my 73 240 was in mph, I changed it over to kph. I thought it was odd as my first car[V6 capri] had both calibration, mph on the outside & kph inside.

Haven't seen these. Do you have any further info, such as make, model etc? TIA

Hella H-4's vs Stock
Relays? Surely you jest when you ask that. It goes without saying that the loom would go the way of the Marlbrough Man if you didn't relay the circuit! Single filament use, ie only one filament used at one time, [often wondered about the output if you used both, let alone seeing if the alt could push out enough amps] and the globes were??? can't remember, threw them out in a fit of rage as they cost me a finish in a rally. Strangely, they appeared to be functional until the driving lights clicked in? I'm getting a good spread with the Narva's and probably see if I can change the bulbs in the DL's to the same technology.

Hella H-4's vs Stock
H4, what is your opinion of using high wattage lights in comparison to the Narva XB3. Have it and it's equivilents made high wattage and the need for relays redundant? My personal observation has been catastrophic failure [total burn out of the globe] of high wattage [100/130] when selecting low beam after a 15/20 minute period of using high beam!

Weights
At least another "chestnut" bits the dust. How about a new thread. 240z Myths & Legends. The true story..... Incidentally, we stayed out of the trees, only to bottom out and smash the front spoiler in a ford. Damn, as the car [260z] was being kept as a "con cors" car.

oil pressure
I would suggest that you first change your sender. IMHO, I wouldn't be concerned as I haven't seen a zed to date with an accurate oil Px gauge.

Electric windows
What are these doors off! I want some for my 2+2...

Weights
Alan, There was one other question in regard to these engines. I've been told many times that they are similar to if not a copy of a Mercedes 6. [possibly licenced by them?]. Thats all for this week, I'm off to the Longest Night Night Rally now.

Weights
I'm glad I asked the question! Personally, Alan on behalf of all RHD owners, I must thank you for your relentless efforts to supply us with your hard won knowledge. You can be assured that we will go forth and preach to the heathens and endeavour to "convert them" to see the light. Now for more enlightment!!! L20 six? Was there 2 versions, a 4 which started life as a L16? [i think] and subsequently made it's way into the 510/610/710 series and upgraded into L18 and L20 and the 6 cylinder or am I mis-taken and the 2L 4 came from an over bored L18? Shall I whip up a tray of scones?

Weights
Arrrrrr....Wha the... Alan I did a quick search of your posts, so if I missed this basic answer, here's the question from a simple person. What do all of these numbers mean? Wasn't there only a Domestic RHD &RHD G nose and LHD 240, obviously not? Putting the tea on....

More info for '71 240Z
Oh Alan, I can't exactly agree with you on this point. Although I can't exactly see the consul in question [bigger picture please steve-o]. Late model 260Z's can fitted with a similar piece of factory equipement. The first zed I brought way back in 1977 was a 260 2+2, spanking new and sported this luxurious device. The current 77 that I've restored also came with it, although it had subcumbed to the ravages of time and has been replaced with a handcrafted wooden piece of furniture. The centre consol appears to have been an evolving piece of furniture and each "model" year seems to have a different centre consul. So, how about a pic of the consul and we can discuss it over tea and crumpets!

Weights
Mean't to look in the manual last night...forgot. Zhome quotes 2+2 curb weight as 2855lb a tad short of 1300kg. Approx 350kg [770lb or a whopping 37% increase in weight] more than a 240. Not sure what exactly curb weight is? Full fuel, 2 pax etc??????

#0001 is it RHD or LHD
Alan, There is that possibility that they are in agreement with us on this matter. I know, its remote, but possible! RHD rules!!!

Z432 4 sale!!!!
Can't quote you on weights, but can speak from experiance. Wasn't the original question concerning 240 to 260 2+2 comparision? As I said a 2+2 is excellent for navigational events, it's doubtful if you would be competitive in Tarmac events. Think of it as a mini vs a 240 in Motorkhana's. Horses for courses. You must be mistaken, me bad mouth a scrut, never, never, a thousand times never, however, have you confused officials and their duties? A scrutineer and official scrutiny is held before a rally to check the car complies with all entry details in the supp regs, and complies with the NCR & NRC [if a rally]. The point I was making is that some zeds entered in Targa aren't legal in their class. ie 240's entered in original capacity when they are running highly modified 280 engines. The rules are rules and one only needs to protest for them to be adhered to, alas it's something that the organiser dreads but it will happen one day.

Electric Fule pump not pumping
Pretty sure your thinking of the by-pass solinoid. From memory, the pump always ticks over with fuel delivery being monitored by water temp and RPM.

Z432 4 sale!!!!
Nuh, those events are to fast for me. I just charge around in the bush dodging trees in a 240Z {avatar}. Unless you have a full race setup in a rally car then I wouldn't give anyone a chance of completing, let alone winning Targa. Don't believe all you here about classes either, some 240's competiting aren't 2.4L 240's, Try a 280 bored out to 3.1L or there abouts. Until the scrutineers have the bottle to pull one of these apart and disqualify a crew or two then a "true" 240 will never win. Let this be a warning to all competitors as if I ever get to compete, I'll certainly be protesting all 240's entered!!!! I have often tinkered with the idea of using a 2+2 shell in the forest. Technically it's longer wheelbase should be a bonus, but unless you can keep the weight to around 1000kg then I still can't see you being competitive.
-
Z432 4 sale!!!!
Might be cheap, but it's grossly overweight. If your thinking Targa Tas, then could I suggest you rethink and find a 240z or 260 2 seater shell to use. Don't get me wrong as I use a 2+2 in Navigational events, this would probably be the only type of event that the 2+2 can be competitive. Lot's of luck in your Targa endeavours, it's the pinnicle of Tarmac events and attracts a huge 240/260 audience.

#0001 is it RHD or LHD
I'm sure this will start some intense debate. At the unveiling of the 350Z in Japan, the prototype car was RHD. (see news item posted by Z-point & subsequent thread). This implies that the pre-production mules would have been RHD and thus #0001 will be a RHD 350Z, not the LHD 350Z that is being sold on e-bay. When one thinks more about this, it becomes evident that #00001 240Z [or any of the Z series] would have also been RHD and not LHD as has been suggested. I'll now duck for cover, have a great weekend, look forward to some debate on Monday!
