Thanks Alan/George I think he'll be relieved that he has most likely painted it the right colour. Did you guy's get to the last classic car show at the NEC last year, I was told that my old 240z was on display at the Datsun z club stand, wish I could have been there to see it in all it's glory. Thanks again for the info Regards Lee

Can anyone tell me if the 240z colour combinations were common to all countries. The reason I ask is that a friend of mine has an early rhd car (#99) which is 907 green, all the area's that would not normally be painted as part of a respray are also green which leads him to believe that this id the original colour but this car has a black interior, the only references I can find report green cars as having tan interiors. The paint code sticker is very worn but could possibly be 901 silver which would explain the black interior, however, the car has just had a bare metal respray and there is no trace of any old silver paint anywhere on the car. He has just had the car painted green again for the purpose of originality (but I wonder if he should have painted it silver instead) If anyone know's of green cars produced with black interiors could you let me know. Thanks Lee

Giving my car to a classic car enthusiast and restorer, just waiting for a slot in his busy schedule, hopefully end of Jan. Complete strip down, refurbish engine, head, gearbox, diff etc and bare metal respray. Will hopefully post pictures around april. Lee
  4. Sorry Mike, don't know quite know how I managed to post to the wrong forum, I'll be more careful next time. Regards Lee
  5. I provided some info a while back to Carl Beck concerning availability of original brand (Koito) headlamps which he believed may have been unavailable. I thought it may be useful to share here for anyone seeking complete originality for their car, concors events etc I recently purchased a pair of lights for my car from a well known West Australian motor parts company called Marlows, the lights were marketed under the Bosch brand but are actually Koito manufactured parts. The Bosch brand of products is huge in Europe and Oz so anyone wanting these should'nt have too much trouble. Hope this is of help to some people. Regards Lee
  6. I have a 70 240 which has glass in the rear hatch without demister strips, the other 70 240 that I had was the same and so is the car of a friend of mine. At what point did they start to fit demister strips or is this just an Australian thing? The hatch has it's original glass with nissan info stamped into the bottom corner. The rear of the centre consul also has the cut outs for the demister switch but no button. I don't need to replace the glass or anything, just looking to increase my knowledge of my particular car. Regards Lee
  7. Hi Guys Looks like every zed nut in Perth called the guy with the 240z for sale for $500 I called him on thursday and got the same response as Cuong, told it was a 260 2 + 2 and a heap of $^!# and I agree with the rest of you, the guy did'nt sound as though he was firing on all 6 cylinders! I have also been a victim of a misprint, I was selling my 72 240z in the uk, the car was in excellent condition, 110 red with cream interior and very original, advertised it in a well known British calssic car magazine for 5,000 pounds, at least that is what it should have said, the magazine missed a zero off the price. As you can guess the phone rang off the hook, I even had a couple of people get really annoyed when I told them the price, one guy wanted to know how I could ask for such a high price when he could easily purchase 240 zed's in the north of england for 500 pounds. I suggested he bought every one he could find and I would buy them off him providing him with a decent profit, needless to say I did'nt hear from him again. Lee
  8. Coastguard I dont think anyone wants a lesson in politics which seemingly aim to justify the actions of terrorists, let's keep posts to the Z marque and other light hearted subjects. Regards Lee
  9. Guys I think many people who contribute to this site need to lighten up a bit. Most people enjoy a bit of a wizz take, particularly the aussie, pom, yank triangle. I posted a reply to the Zed vrs Zee debate which I wrote as a light hearted (using several smilies) dig at you yanks. The response I got to that was to call me an arrogant Australian I've only just felt safe enough to leave my houseLOL We may not always agree with what is written, in jest or otherwise, but as soon as it becomes personal we have lost the plot. Beandip, I know you apologised for the IRA remark but comments like that will alienate you from many people, it is the same as non Americans making similar statements about september 11. The IRA have been blowing up innocent people for over 20 years! This is a great site, let's keep it that way Lee
  10. Hi Dero You say "it's zee car" makes you sound like a frenchmanLOL We can settle this debate fairly easily The English invented the English language and pronounce Z as Zed. Americans speak English (most of the time) but you never did quite get the hang of some of the pronunciations. Now you know the error of your ways I am sure you will see the light and pronounce the letter Z as it was originally intended (that's ZED for those of you who still have trouble) Please don't thank me for the lesson, it was my pleasure!!
  11. Hi Nigel $5k seems to be the average price for a good bare metal job, I've just been quoted that price for my 240 but this price was on the assumption that there will be no major rot to contend with. A bare metal is the way to go, if you don't know the car a normal paint job could well be money down the drain!! The paint shop I spoke to suggested that they would probably look to bead blast the shell (approx cost $800) and then call me to discuss any rot found. Regards Lee

Hi Nick I have'nt got a scanner but a mate of mine has so I will try to get pictures to you over the weekend. The chances of finding these covers would be fairly remote unless someone is going to scrap a series one car (it does happen now and again) I would suggest contacting Z spares in Sydney, failing that U.S suppliers would be the next stop. Regards Lee

Hi Nick The tabs etc you speak of are for securing the black plastic covers that are the storage compartments, these were moved to the hatch floor in later cars. The covers fix to the floor with screws and then secure to the rear panel using the black knob. Hope this helps Regards Lee
  14. Any Aussies looking for a mint condition early dash check out the OzDat website, the guy is asking $800.00 I cant recall seeing one in this condition for a very long time so I don't know if this price is realistic but for anyone looking to show their car it's got to be worth a look. Lee

Just so a couple of west austalian spiders don't feel left out, we have one called a white tip, you don't feel the bite but if you are unlucky enough to suffer a reaction you end up with a large festering boils that refuse to heal. You just have to hope you dont have one in your pants when you get up in the morning! We also have a relatively unknown beast called a mouse spider (which looks nothing like a mouse) and is almost identical to a funnel web, came accross one the other day for the first time ever(at Mindarie marina for you Perth guys who may wish to avoid the area) Prior to purchasing my latest 240 it had sat in a shed for three years, no live redbacks but a whole load of empty egg cases!! Personally I love snakes and spiders and kept them for years when I was in the UK, and I look relatively normal:D
  16. Why don't you look for one in the UK? A lot of Aussie Zed's live close to the coast and in my experience are'nt a lot better in terms of overall condition than many UK cars I have seen. I lived in the UK for many year's during which time I owned a 72 240z. The car had been restored 15 years before I bought it but had only travelled 12k miles in that time, the car was close to original and only cost me 3k pounds. Additional benefits are that the uk has yearly mot tests and you could drive one back to Ireland. Another option would be to contact someone like the Z farm in England who source cars from the US. P.S The car I owned was recently on display at the Classic car show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Makes me wish I had shipped it back to Oz.

DOHC Is it possible that you have a Jap import? Aussie cars are mph, my current car is a an early 240 and as you state early cars start at 20 but this is definately 20mph. Lee

Thanks for the help Rick I have ordered parts from warren before but they took about 2 months to get to me (and about 20 phone calls) I know he was very busy at the time, but frustrating when you want to get on with the car. I contacted them again about three weeks ago for prices and availability of more parts and at the time of writing I am still waiting for the info, I'll be contacting them again today but if you know of any other suppliers I would be grateful. Thanks for the help Lee

Hi Alan 240Z'S needed a compliance plate which is issued when the cars satisfy Australian automotive standards, imported cars sometimes stood for several months awaiting compliance checks, registration document could therefore state that the car is a 1971 model even if it arrived in the country in the final months of 1970. My car #306 was complianced in Jan 1971 but I would estimate it's production date being around Sep/Oct 70. I would suggest Nicks car would have been complianced around the same time as mine, Nick does your car still have it's plate. Lee

Hi Gav A couple of years ago I picked up an early 240, #117 having collected the car I set about trying to find when this car was produced. As both LHD and RHD cars have the same numbers (just different prefix) I thought the engine numbers would give a more accurate picture as to the build date. I spoke with a few people heavily into Z's and the conclusion was that even the earliest known Australian 240's were probably produced from Jan 1970 on. My current 240 #306 has an engine number that slots it in around oct/november 1970 as a build date. Having said all this I keep hearing the story that Nissan produced approx 385 RHD cars in 1969 originally intended for the European market, these cars were imported into Australia due to lower than expected sales forecasts in Europe ( the cost of a 240z in England at the time was close to what you would pay for an E-type Jag ) I have spoken to the guy who owns the early car that is for sale, he thinks he has a Nissan document that confirms the Australian 1969 240Z claim. I will speak with him later this week when he has had chance to look for the document. It would certainly create some debate if this document does exist! If any other members have researched this I would be interested in you findings. Lee

Thanks to Marty and 2manyZ's for the info on seat covers, I'll have an order away in the next few days. George Apart from the difficulty in finding seats from wrecked cars I ahve a 1970 240 which has different seats from the later models and I am trying to keep the car as original as possible. I had a 72 240 in the UK and did'nt have any trouble in finding good condition seats for that car, it's a different story here! Thanks again for the help guy's Lee

I am looking for advice on replacement seat covers for my 1970 240. There appear to be several seat kits on the market available from the U.S.A and Japan. If anyone has contacts or photo's of kits available it would be a great help. My car is original except for the wheels so I would like to obtain seat covers as close as possible to the original. Thanks for any help offered
  23. Hi Mike I heard that #004 had been sold to a UK buyer, if this is the case do you know the number of the oldest Australian based car? Lee
  24. Does anyone know who owns licence plate " 240Z " here in W.A
  25. Hi Guys Good idea getting a circle of z owners to share knowledge of cars for sale, parts specialists etc. I too strugle to get certain parts, I had to obtain the last ones from Sydney and they took an age to get. I have been lucky with cars though as I have obtained two series 1 cars in the last 18 months, these were purchased from the same guy who also has a third car in his possesion (which is the earliest of the three) I am trying to get my hands on this one as well but he does'nt want to sell, yet!! The same guy also had a 260z two seater this was sold to a guy in Perth who has restored the car as for as I know. The second car I bought is the best one , it does need work but nothing too serious, car is original matching numbers car with an E31 head so worth the effort and money needed to restore it. I have seen quite a few 240z's for sale and looked at several that were unfortunately over priced for their condition. Bargains do come up, so keep looking and see if you can beat me to them!
