  1. I did read the thread Dave, but it was unclear if it was still going on or not so I posted to get clarifiation. I guess I'll find out at the show tomorrow for sure...haha. Have a safe drive down! Greg

I would have liked to come but was fixing my car today so i COULD come tomorrow and Sunday...haha. See everyone there!
  3. I was wondering about the ride in from the rest stop too as far as if it is going to happen and when and where. In past years I've followed Gary and Roger in but Gary isn't going this year and Roger might make it Sunday. I'm fine with meeting at the rest stop again, even if its earlier, if its going to happen. Is there any definitive word from anyone that will we indeed meet there again on Sunday AM before getting to the show, or is it a no go this year? Greg
  4. If anyone is interested in an original non-cracked dash from a '72, I do have one in very good, uncracked shape with gauges and glove box that I will be selling at the Canby (Oregon) show later this month. Since it won't fit in my car, I'll just have pictures with me, and could email pictures to any interested people also. If anyone is interested, send me a PM. Greg
  5. Sounds like a fun time. I would have come if I would have known about it sooner. Enjoy the weather and happy birthday to Roger! Greg
  6. You got ANOTHER Z Dave? You're addicted to working on Z's I think. I still need to do the fan conversion on my '72....one of these days when I get some money rolling in..... Greg
  7. Thanks a bunch! Always great to learn from someone who knows what they are talking about. greg
  8. How does the vacuum thing as you've explained it equate to an EFI system? You've explained it very well for carbs, but since I'll be going turbo and leaving carbs behind, I'm wondering. Greg

Why the difference between the two different year ranges? Greg
  10. The one caveat with using the Pertronix is to make sure to disconnect it if you leave the key on for long periods of time, such as if you are trying to troubleshoot some other electrical problem for instance. I burned out a Pertronix because I forgot about that advice from them and left it plugged in while working on some wiper issues with the key on for long periods of time. That said, the Pertronix works well and driveability is greatly increased with it. Greg
  11. I fixed the entry for mine also. Hopefully it stays put.... Greg
  12. Now that we know what can happen, even at a Datsun show where you would think the criminals don't come, we can all try to keep an eye out for anything questionable and watch out for each other's cars. I don't worry too much about mine because it is 7 colors and looks like a POS but I will be keeping a watchful eye anyway no matter where I park. Greg

My blinkers stopped working about 6 months ago. I replaced the flasher with a new one equipped with a relay and it still didn't work. I let the car sit through most of the winter, and drove it again a couple weeks ago, and now my blinkers work. So obviously a wiring issue...something intermittant.....could be the same case with your car? Greg
  14. I upgraded my coil on my 240Z to a Crane Fireball performance one, and am using the Pertronix with the resistor bypassed. With the Pertronix you have to make sure to not leave the key on with the Pertronix plugged in. If you have to work on the car you have to unplug the Pertronix or it will overheat and burn up. Its a pain but the performance improvement from the Pertronix is worth it for me. I'm on my third Pertronix however. The first one was defective and the car would just shut down sometimes, and I couldn't restart it until I opened the cap to let the unit cool off. The second one I burned out because I left the key on without unplugging the Pertronix. The third one is working perfectly and I get good revs and power up to redline. When I go to my turbo engine I plan to Megasquirt and coil pack instead of the Pertronix. Greg I'll add that the Crane performance coil I have is a 1.5 ohm coil.
  15. Yah, but the taxes on gas over there are a lot higher on average than here so that is a large chunk of the costs......

Hi Bonzi, That dash I have is 49000 something so its an early '72. I'm not sure about differences between the '72's and '73's either, although I thought the dashes were the same with the exception of the heater control panel, which is seperate anyway. I think a recover process is a good approach though. Good luck to you on it and if you change your mind and want a dash, let me know. Greg

That sucks about your dash Bonzi. I guess there are a couple options out there that you could do that the others have mentioned. Your car looks nice enough that it makes sense to get something good-looking in there. I actually have a perfect dash here from a '72 240Z that I'd like to sell. As the others have said it will probably crack eventually too but you never know. This one was in an airplane hanger under cover for 20 years and has been sitting in my closet for a year and a half. So maybe it has some life left. If you're interested then PM me and I can get you pics and more info. Greg
  18. Yeah they will burn out unless you disconnect them when leaving the key on...I burned out one too before I figured that out. I've had to replace two units though due to overheating problems with the circuitry that goes in the distributor. The set that I have now is working the best of all the ones I've had so far, and I can rev freely to 6500 rpm without any issues and good power. Way better than points were IMHO, though when I go with the turbo swap I'll be putting in a Megasquirt II and coil packs so no more need for the Pertronix. greg

As the others have said its better for you to discover what winter weather is like here right off the bat, though I'm sure its no worse than where you were from and certainly not as bad as Chicago. You should make it a point sometime in your future travels to come back up here in the middle of the summer....you'll see then why people stay here. Good luck in your travels and hope you find a place to settle where you can be happy and it doesn't cost too much to live so you will have more money to treat your Z right. greg

Glad you made it safely Frankie! I think I can speak for most Oregonians who are into cars in that we all would vote to pump our own gas if they would let us. Bastards!! I'm in Cornelius, which is about 30 mins west of Portland and about an hour to the beach....so depending on where you were going to work, it could be a good location. I currently have a roommate but if I didn't I'd be into having a fellow Z lover to be my roommate. I don't have lots of room to work on the car though...just a single-wide garage which has my turbo engine in it along with other things....so have to work outside or at my friend's shop 6 miles away. I don't much like my current roommate so something could possibly be arranged if you were interested. If you are then send me a PM. Greg

Hope you don't hit any weather over the Shasta passes into Oregon.....usually not a problem yet this far in the year but you never know. My dad cracked up a Triumph TR3A that he had just painted in the late 60's coming over those passes when it wasn't supposed to be weather there. Enjoy LA (smog and too many people) as much as you can. Greg
  22. You could also get a Borg-Warner T5 that came in the Turbo 280ZX's. Its a bit more work to sub that in but some people like them, especially for higher horsepower applications. greg
  23. Thanks Dave! I'll check into it in the next couple days...... greg
  24. That sounds like a winner Dave. Where do you get those Electronic flashers? I think my blinker problem is my flasher.....as I cleaned the switch and put it together correctly and still no blinkie. Greg
  25. Sounds like its time to move to a different state! I've got a 1969 Volvo 1800S that has been off the road for 10 years while I restore it, and its sat without insurance at my dad's and now my place and no one has ever hassled me about it. But thats Oregon, not Idaho...... Greg
