  1. Which model and year Honda did you pull that out of? Greg
  2. Count me in with the remote option Dave, with the caveat I mentioned in private message. Thanks! Greg
  3. Here is my list....nothing was bought new: 1982 VW Rabbit Diesel (wrecked and totalled, saved parts for car # 3, owned from 1988 - 1993) 1969 Volvo 1800S (still own it, under restoration, will be finished when I get some $$, been off the road since 1998, 1993 - present) 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel (engine and trans from other Rabbit, sold with 280,000 miles on engine never apart, 1993 - 1997) 1985 Audi 4000 Quattro (1997 - 1999) 1985 Audi 4000 Quattro (daily driver, though getting tired with 333,000 miles on it, never had engine apart, 1999 - present) 1973 Ford F250 Camper Special (2007 - 2009) 1972 Datsun 240Z (#87974, still own it, rolling restoration, will get turbo and other mods, 2008 - present) 1973 Datsun 240Z (unknown serial number, parts car, will be destroyed once I cut off parts I need this summer, 2010 - present) The Rabbits were great though extremely slow. They were reliable and cheap to operate with 55 mpg. The 4000 Quattros are the best car Audi ever made....indestructible and extremely reliable cars, fun to drive. Just getting really old and parts are getting hard to find and expensive...nothing new strikes my fancy yet. The Ford was bought cheap and sold expensive and I got a lot of use out of it...gas guzzler but I miss it...very handy. The Volvo is going to be very nice once it gets done...that was the car I bought when my uncle wouldn't sell me the Z in 1993 and I wanted a sports car. I finally ended up getting the Z in 2008 and it is a favorite...lots of mods planned since it isn't a good candidate for totally original restoration. Greg
  4. This is pretty cool Dave! You can count me in for one. I had been considering how I would do something of this sort but you've got all the figuring done already! Greg
  5. The Z engines are great! Very well built and last a long time, but I don't think they could do what Irv Gordon has done with his 1966 Volvo 1800S. The engine has only been overhauled twice...at 700,000 miles, and at 2.7 million miles, if you believe him. The car has been restored 3 times last I heard. Its a nice car, I've seen it in person a couple times... Greg http://www.volvocars.com/intl/top/about/news-events/pages/default.aspx?itemid=192
  6. It wasn't the fastest car I've been in, but the most memorable was a ride in a 1963 Ferrari 250 Lusso. We were doing close to 90 on a turnpike in 2nd gear, and then 110 on a freeway in the Bay area, California when I was 5, which would make it some time in 1977. Ever since I haven't forgotten the scream of that smooth and high-revving Columbo V12...music to my ears! The same guy who owned that had a Ferrari 250 Lusso also. He has since sold both and has a 1935 Alfa nowadays. I'd keep the Ferraris myself! Greg
  7. I wish I was ready to respray my Z and had the use of the rotisserie that you're using. I wonder if they might lend it to me also when I will be ready to tear mine down in a couple years? I'm up in the portland area.... Car is looking great! Greg

I'm planning on doing this too through the same person you used Arne. I've now got 3 possible donor roofs so he should be happy with one of them once I get the spare money to do it! Probably sometime this summer hopefully. Greg

Ira's Z is a great sound. I agree with you on best sounding Z. Would love to see and hear it in person! greg

The Dino Ferraris actually used a V6 from Fiat, not a 4 cylinder. Greg

That Countach and GT40 were sweet! I loved the quick turn the GT40 did. The Z race car was awesome too of course. I've always loved WW2-era airplanes, especially radial engines, but sticking those in a boat? That must have been really cool to hear and see! Here are a couple more... I don't know about you folks, but one of my favorite things about cars are the cool engine sounds. I think this one takes the cake though.....the BRM V16...1.5L, 600 HP, revs to 12,000 RPM, supercharged.....it sounds WAY cool! I thought maybe some of you might like to post more videos or links to more cool engine sounds. I never had that problem myself. The only problems that I had were that the Pertronix burned itself out once because ti apparently ran too hot, and I blew it out myself once from hooking the wires up backwards. Other than that, it works perfectly and I get better running and better mileage. Greg
  14. Yes I am, sorry Mike. I'll see if one of those guys can help. Greg
  15. Hi Mike, I tried to place an ad, but when I click submit, it just goes back to the post an ad screen where I make my selections. Any idea what is wrong? Also, anytime I try to mark all posts as being read on this site, I get an error message and it won't do it. It used to work fine until you had some problems with the site awhile back. Thanks, Greg
  16. If anyone is interested, I do have a very nice, uncracked 240Z dash that I would like to sell. I need the money for school. PM me for more info. Greg
  17. Its gone already...deleted post. I've got a perfect 240Z dash that I'd like to sell myself, but haven't been advertising because no one seems to want to buy. That wasn't me who was selling that one btw. How much was he asking for it...did you notice? Greg

I used the MSA ones and had the same problem as others here with intermittant lights in the gauges. I ended up taking the gauges out one at a time and knocking the green dome out and the bulbs stay in just fine now. It doesn't bother me with the white light instead of the green light, and eventually I will be going with aftermarket gauges that I will add LED lighting to, so its a moot point in the end for me. Greg
  19. If anyone is looking for a perfect dash, I have one I'd like to sell that is from late '71 to early '72. If interested, send me a PM. I do have pics I can share that are too large to post. Greg

Thats fantastic info Les! I'll be checking into this myself. Greg
  21. In 2 years I've had three Pertronix units....one was my fault but the other two developed the same problem you mentioned Arne. I swapped them under warranty and the one I am using now is perfect and has been in there for over a year. The first one would get hot and the car would flat out quit, usually when idling. The second one got too hot also and would miss at high rpms. I found out that I needed a new gasket between the distributor and it's mounting point on the block. Just replacing that gasket reduced the heat just enough to where the new one has behaved fine. The third one that was my fault failed because I had it disconnected, and reconnected the wires backwards by accident. Woops. Overall I am happy with the Pertronix as my distributor was a bit worn and didn't work well with points at all....cutting out about 5000 rpm. The Pertronix works fine up to the redline and the car is faster too. Eventually I am doing a turbo swap and will use coil packs and get rid of the distributor. Good luck with yours! Greg

I've done the Modern Motorsports rear disc brake swap on my 240Z. If you're planning on using the calipers off the 240SX then nevermind, but if you plan to get new calipers, your donors for the core charge need to have the ebrake hanger on them or you will pay extra. It is much cheaper to find some donor calipers at a wrecking yard which is what I did. I got the rotors, brackets, and stainless lines from Modern Motorsports, and ordered the correct, new calipers from Napa Auto Parts. When you put the whole thing on your car, you leave the ebrake cables attached to the car where they are, but on the brake caliper end you swap them from side to side. So the right cable goes to the left caliper and vice versa. As far as I know there isn't a great way to keep the cables in the hangers so you have to come up with something there to hold them in place. The pads that Modern Motorsports sells with the kit work great with stock front brakes without an adjustable proportioning valve. If you want to see the conversion in person, let me know. I do have to go to Salem in the next couple weeks for a half day. Greg
  23. It is pretty impressive, but she has quite a ways to go to catch the miles record holder.....its actually over 2.8 million miles now.....only overhauled the engine twice if you believe the owner. Greg http://www.zercustoms.com/news/1966-Volvo-P1800-Hits-2.6-Million-Miles-Mark.html
  24. I think there were more cars there on Saturday than Sunday this year. Both days were good though. Greg

I'm a little late in posting...been busy since the show, but what a great show! Met lots of cool cars and saw a lot of great people too! Thanks a BUNCH to Dave Irwin for helping me fix a brake light and blinker problem on my Z. I'm constantly amazed at your knowledge of these cars! Lots of fun at the show! Lets do it again next year! Greg
