Well I'd say I hail from Portland, OR* The asterik* is because it's actually Vancouver, WA. And right now I'm up at school in Bellingham, WA.
  2. got me there. 280Z. it was a hastily written post.
  3. So a little back story first. 2-3 weeks ago some buddies and I decided to doing a rolling photoshoot of the Z. We drove down to this perfect road, it was a getting dark out quick, but we managed to get a few really good pictures (just take a look at my album!). Anyway, I lost track of how long we were out there and how far we'd driven when I happened to glance at the fuel guage. Of course it was on E. So we immediately headed for home and made it to within about 10 block before I ran it out of fuel. Ouch. But my friend gave me a lift to get some gas, and the station let me borrow a gas can. So fast forward to 2:20 today. I pull out of my parking lot and get up to the first intersection by my place. After some cursing about how busy the cross traffic is, the Z starts to have issues. I try to keep her alive, but no luck. I'm pretty sure that she's run out of gas again (now hold on, I didn't lose track of anything this time. but for the last few days, I've been suspicious of the gas guage and it's lack of movement toward E. I thought that it had stayed at about 1/3 to 1/2 for far too long), and sure enough she won't fire up again. So as I start pushing her backwards in the wrong lane back down in front of my place, a 280ZX passes by and yells "what's wrong?" I get her to the side of the road, and start trying to process what I can do. I was going to go to the school office, the post office, and then to work. I'm supposed to work at 3, and it's already 2:30. All of the sudden, the 280 pulls up and parks, and the guy hops out. "I had to come back" he said. He offered to give me a lift to the gas station, and I took him up on it. The first station we went to had neither a loaner can nor any for sale. "Thanks anyway" I told him, not wanting to imposition him too much. "C'mon, I'll take you to the Shell station, they should have one there" he said. The shell did have one, for sale, so I bought it and he took me back to my Z. After remembering to introduce myself and thanking him for all his help, he left. But not before insisting that we go cruising in the spring. He said some Z owners make a run up to Mt. Baker every year. "You know where to find me" I told him. I got her started again and took her to go fill up. And now I have some checking to do. But now I know for sure, that Z owners are the best guys and gals out there. Love you all. And thanks again Joel, your '78 280ZX isn't the prettiest, but she's a life saver for sure!

Wait, I registered in early October, and got a reply from Carl saying everything was in order. So the whole site is closing down? Damn.

In that case, it may have been repainted #907. I'll have to check the receipt. Yep, I have the receipt from the paint job 14 years ago.

Well hopefully we'll get together to get these replicated and you can get a new one for the drivers seat Frank. BTW, I'm amazed that you bought back the same car 30 years later. Did you sell it to someone you knew?

well i sold my last vehicle (a pickup) on ebay and was amazed at the interest it brought. so i'd definitely recommend ebay as the way to go. guy that bought my '87 yota flew out to portland or, from montana and drove it back. btw. my new z was ana amazing rust free find out of salem oregon. i really need to get a garage.
  9. personally, i think it should fir the rest of the car. if you've got a mostly stock looking car, it's best to keep your engine bay stock looking. but i can't fault the guys who take the time to personalize with sport seats, sway bars and the like, and carry that into the bay with chrome an paint.

Anyone know what brand steering wheel I have? I love it, think it looks perfect, I was just wondering. I need to get the bottom sewn up though, it's starting to split.

Since this thread was revived, it got me thinking. So I checked my new Z, and I'll be damned if my passenger side seat doesn't have plastic guard everyone was talking about. In this case, I'd like to say that I am interested now in a drivers side guard, so if you have one, let me know.

I think it was originally color 113, but she was repainted BRG in '93. A few more notes about her. Since being painted, she's been driven less than 5000 miles, so the paint is in amazing condition. She's got an aftermarket ASC elctric sunroof. It was designed to go into a lincoln, but looks and works great (up until 2 weeks ago, I'm working on it). I'm the third owner. The second owner had her for 25 years and converted her back from dual Webers to the Hitachi SU's.

Thanks guys. Yeah, you can't beat the classic sports car look of the Z. Never expected to own one, but I'm very glad I do. It's one of those cars that you just have to glance over your shoulder at a few times after you get out.

Hello, So I've been a member for a few weeks now, but have just finally gotten some pictures up so it's time to introduce myself. And my new lady. I've got a British Racing Green 1970 240z manufactured in February of '70. She's got 64k original miles on her and has been mine now for 2 months. I sold my first vehicle (a great '87 Toyota 4x4 Xtra cab SR5 that was lifted with off-road lights and tires) because I was looking for something more fun to drive. It had to be a RWD, preferably light, and with only 2 seats. After settling on an early 2nd gen MR2 (that sold from under me), I contemplated a Miata for awhile, but at 6'3 I found it wasn't right for me. I'd always loved 510's and the whole time I'd been looking for a new car, I knew that if the right 510 came around I'd buy it. Well while looking at craigslist postings, I happened upon my new Z. She was located in Salem, OR. It was 6 hours from me, but only 1 hour from my parents in Portland. So I had my dad go down and check it out (he's been a high school autoshop teacher for 25 years, and knows just about all there is to know about cars. Especially classics). He was amazed at the condition and price, so without even seeing it myself I told him to buy it. It's got a black vinyl interior in great condition with one rip on each seat, zero rust (save a small spot under the battery tray), the original 4 speed, and so many papers, receipts, and extra parts I had to buy three chest-sized rubbermaids. In the next month or so I'll be putting in a very nice sound system with the help of Dave (zs-ondabrain) and upgrading the entire electrical system. I plan to do a number of tasteful updates, while keeping it appearing mostly stock. I'd love to know what you guys think of her! JonnyRock's Z
  18. sorry to hear about the hood dave, sound's like you're good 'ol Murphy's whipping boy. 4th hood... jesus

Hey, I'm looking to install a cut-off switch in my '70 Z. There's already a hidden button with wiring running out through the firewall and ending at the battery (though it's not connected). I understand my fuel pump is mechanical, so I'll probably have to go with an ignition cut-off, right? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
