Stock- Which is the quickest?
I wuldn't put down fuel injection as something that's only good for fuel efficiency or passing emmissions testing. Remember that the record-holding top-fuel dragsters and Funny cars are using fuel injection. and a supercharger.

Why would you want a 280?
IMO, the 280Z had all the "mistakes" of the 240Z fixed; the fusebox, cold-weather starting, the radio system, and other stuff I have been in a 280Z for a run through an AutoX course, and I don't think that a comparable stock 240Z would have been more "exiting." thx

Stock- Which is the quickest?
That's what I said (#14), the 300 ZX won, and the 260Z beat just the 350Z. How do you know if the 260Z was modified?

Stock- Which is the quickest?
Yeah, that's the video. It's been so long I forgot about the 260. They guy was assuming that the 50Z would win overall, but it just barely beat the 260z.

Stock- Which is the quickest?
There was a link to a YouTube video clip here once, where they had a whole bunch of different model Zs racing... And the 260Z won! I don't think there was a 300TT in the lineup tho.

Another L-Jetronic Document
For those of you that like to read everything about the L-Jetronic Fuel Injection system: http://www.hiperformancestore.com/L-jetronic.htm This article gives some general stuf, some tips, trick & tweaks, and it even makes a reference to the 280zX & 280ZX. The only difference is that it uses an Alpha Romeo engine as the example. thx

Incredible Rare 180 Car Collection Just Found!
Do you think they all belonged to some deposed Portuguese druglord? Those guys will do anything to remain anonymous when the Feds are looking for them. Maybe some of them have a little stash under the seat...

Which tires to get?
What's your goal for these tires? Are you looking for a street, touring, competition, or what? I'm using 195/70S-14 on my 280Z for touring, and the ride is very comfortable; it'll take a rough road fairly well. These tires wre not up to an autoX course I once tried. Different size tires will also affect things like your speedometer and odometer. Try this web page to compare tire sizes. Tire Size Compare thx

Inner floor sound/rust proofing options
What are your goals with the sound-proofing? You probably want just to minimize most of the undesireable mechanical sounds the car makes, but still be able to hear traffic sounds. Being able to hear sounds that your car is making makes your car safer to drive for you, and being able to hear traffic (especially emergency vehicles) makes you a safer driver for yourself and others. thx

any 240Z concours standards published?
Just to show that some judges "think" they know how to judge, I was at a Z-related car show two summers ago, and I lost points on my car because the "glovebox light didn't work." It DID work! As soon as I turned on the headlights, and opened up the glovebox door, there was the light- ON! The problem there is that once you get judged, that's it- no complaints or corrections from the owners allowed. And I always put the Owner's Manual in the glovebox for a show in case the judges need help themselves. I didn't complain because I was 2nd, and the points wouldn't have helped any. In addition to all the other stuff, don't you need to be invited to a concours d'elegance car show? I think there are even different types, or levels, of concours shows, with different criteria for entering & judging. thx

any 240Z concours standards published?
That's an interesting point, Carl. There are two medal-winners in my club, and neither are what I'd call rare or collectable models. One is a twin-turbo 300, and the other is a 240Z. Both have low mileage. The 240Z was (totally) restored, but I'm not so sure about all the polished aluminum (that looks more like chrome plating) on the engine. It always gets all the spectators, and always the best of show trophy wherever it goes. It might even be over-restored? I prefer the stock ( and totally clean) 280Z, as it looks like a 30-year old car should, and doesn't look over-restored. There's that #1 and #2 thing again. what exactly is a #1 or #2 condition car? I still hear it on the Barrett-Jackson auction shows. thx

any 240Z concours standards published?
Ah... the "car on the beach picture" I wonder if anybody has ever actually taken their car onto the beach? Bob-- You can PM me your email address, and I'll send you a copy of the 240Z restoration manual that I have. thx

any 240Z concours standards published?
You should get yourself a copy of the 240Z "F"- project manual. They go over every little part in there. It might help you develop some kind of a checklist, because it's loaded with checklists. That, and move into the house next door to Kats...

Vinyl substitute?
OK, I'll see if the Walmart has any. You know I always warn against too much sound-deadening...
-
Vinyl substitute?
Yeah, but I'll only really need a few ounces to do the two sill pieces. You don't really want the car to be too quiet- you want to be able to hear traffic around you, especially when emergency vehicles are coming.

Vinyl substitute?
There is no information on the can to tell you what to expect except " It provides a durable, skid-resistant barrier." The Product web Page says it should dry to the touch in 30 minutes ( it took a whole day) and a full cure in 24 hours. It's been almost two weeks so far, and you can still press your fingernail into the stuff. If I had a hotbox, or it was warm outside, I'd put in the back window of the car. That should be warm enough to cure it. UPDATE: A call to Duplicolor tells me that the product wasn't designed to be a permanent & hard coating, like the urethane bedliner material is. It's supposed to be a semi-tough coating for scuff & abrasion resistance. Also, the spray can product is supposed to take up to 7 days to cure. That means you could probably use it for door sills, but you might have to repaint it or touch it up, as it might get scuffed from dragging your feet over it. The only alternative I see would be to find a shop that does spray-on truck bedliners, and to see if you could get them to coat your stuff while they do some truck beds. thx

Vinyl substitute?
I tried some of the Truck bedliner spray stuff (Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating) on a sample piece of aluminum sheet. I sanded it with some 200 grit, then used the wax & grease remover, then sprayed the material. I would expect it to take a while to set up; I let it set up, slowly, in the cooler basement (about 65-70F) and then moved it to the warm upstairs level of the house (about 72-75F) to harden, but how long should it take to get hard, and how hard should I expect it to get? Since I'm using this on the door sill guards, it hould not easily scuff or scratch with a fingernail? thx

It'l be neat to se how they reproduce the rutted roads and the 2 to 3 feet of snow they had in the Midwest that winter. Canada maybe?

Top Car Movies
More like 1908, mate. It'll be interesting to see if the can build "old" cars using modern technology & materials. Then they want the movie to have an old feel & look to it. I wonder where they'll find unpaved roads to drive on; the Aussie outback maybe? remember they dove across the U.S.A in late winter with lots of snow. BTW, the DeLorean is in hibernation right now.

Top Car Movies
Did you know that there actually ws a race from New York to Paris, just like in the movie The Great Race? In 2908, 6 cars left New York on Feb 12, drove to Chicago then San Francisco ( US 30), sailed to Tokyo and then to Vladivostok, then drove through Moscow, Germany, and Belgium to Paris. An American car (the only American car) from the Thomas Motor Co. ("Thomas Flyer") won the race and it took 169 days. The race was about 22,000 mileson the map, but the odometer on the Thomas Flyer said about 13,350 miles. Next year, there will be a movie ( a recreation of sorts) for the race's 100th anniversary. thx

Instead of Repo Man, I'd suggest Used Cars. I'm kinda partial to that one.
